Anal Cancer Types
Question: Anal cancer prognosis? My friend has recently been diagnosed with anal cancer, specifically squamous cell carcinoma. She has been told that she will need a combination of radio and chemotherapy as well as excision of the tumour. I have 2 questions.
Firstly, given that she does have at least part of her sphincter removed, what are her prospects as far as defacation is concerned? What is the probability of being able to defacate on her own, or require a colostomy bag?
Secondly, this is something that is of little concequence, but as shes not yet seen the radiologist to find out the answer it has been bothering her. As I understand radiotherapy, they like to go through as little healthy flesh as possible (understandably) so will she be able to lie on her front as they aim the radiation at her anus, or will she be required to 'display' her anus?
We're all rather worried for her but her prognosis is good, and frankly we're trying to see the funny side with a little toilet humour to keep our hopes up. Any insight into this type of cancer would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: Anal/rectal cancers generally have a poorer prognosis than cancers in the rest of the colon and are almost always squamous cell carcinomas. Doctors will do everything possible so that she may be able to have bowel movements without a colostomy bag. This often requires chemo and radiation before and after surgery. This is done to shrink the tumor as much as possible to try and preserve sphincter control. There also has to be enough left to be able to connect the colon to. This is more likely if the tumor is in the rectum rather than the anus. The doctor who will best be able to advise you is the radiation oncologist. There are different types of radiation and I suggest she get more than one opinion. If I were her I would look into CyberKnife. Best wishes to you both.
Question: Can this type of lifestlye lead to cancer later in life? Can taking Dulcolax laxatives once every 1-2 weeks and having anal penetration with penis sizes ranging between 8-12 inches lead to anal cancer later in life?
Educated answers only please. Thanks.
Answer: Theres no telling.
Question: do u think i have anal cancer? ive had this type of sore around my anal cavity and im both scared and embarrassed. though ive never seen any bleeding, even when i have a vowel movement. and it feels as though starting to heal and i think its small than it was before. what do u think?
Answer: I know given the area that it is most embarresing to you but my sister thought the same thing and left hers for over a year and is now into 4 months of the fight of her life for colo-rectal cancer.I am sure that you dont have to worry about that but a 10 minute exam and 10 minutes worth of embaressment can save you the embaressment she has endured for the last few months, while she is being treated for this.Hers was in stage four before she started to bleed and then ignored it thinking it was hemmerrhoids.Got get it looked at and save yourself the agony and worry and the joy you will have when the doc tells you its nothing.
Question: Will I be protected from all HPV diseases if I have had the Gardasil vaccine? I heard that you can get cervical cancer from having vaginal sex, anal cancer from having anal sex and throat cancer from having oral sex and that they're caused by HPV. I know that the vaccine doesn't protect against all types of cervical cancer but does it protect against getting throat and anal cancer from having anal and oral sex?
Answer: Gardasil is only approved for the prevention of cervical, vulvar and vaginal cancers caused by HPV types 16 and 18; genital warts caused by HPV types 6 and 11; and precancerous or dysplastic lesions caused by HPV types 6, 11, 16 and 18 in girls and young women nine through 26 years of age.
I know they are in clinical trails for using the vaccine in boys...and I have seen where they are seeing if it prevents Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis.
I feel sure that clinical trials are being done...and I am sure Merck the makers of Gardasil is hoping that it will prevent throat and anal cancers also.
The vaccine only prevents two high risk HPV types...and they are at least 15 other high risk HPV types...so we have a long way to go in preventing cancers due to HPV.
Question: Do Gynecologits Do Anal PaP Tests. I Was Molested Anally? I was molested anally and I am worried about anal HPV/cancer. If I go to a regular gynecologist, can they give me an anal pap?
Or do I need to go to a special type of doctor? Please help me.
Answer: I am so sorry that happened to you.
Your regular practitioner can do a full exam and tests and so will your gynecologist. Whoever you feel most comfortable with. They've heard this before sweetie. Don't be afraid to talk to your doctors about this. They'll help you.
Question: Prostate Cancer? at Nineteen? Hello, I am Nineteen Years of Age. Forgive any crude language as I am not familiar with all relevant medical terminology.Recently I noticed a slight discomfort at my rear end. So I investiaged further and noticed that quite cleary extruding from the hole is what appears to be nerves....White/Purple four in total little tight clumps each of the four extruding from my anal hole (love to know the term please). Some of the time they are introverted but often are exterior. I have only just noticed this problem and incredibly concearned. As this is surely not normal or something that will pass? I have not had intercourse as of yet......My thoughts were either a type of cancer or an infection. If it is the latter then I have not used any sexual devices. Such as Di l do's etc......Please offer an educated or cautionate opinion. Do not attempt to scaremonger and say "Oh its defnitely serious" for example....
May I also just state I am male
Answer: Try not to worry too much....sounds as if you might have hemorrhoids.(piles)
A visit to the doctor will help as he/she can provide effective treatment, and of course it needs to be checked out by a professional .
Question: Very Important Queston for GAY MEN. Please Answer.? Do you have anal pap smears?
I am a female but I was molested anally and I want to have one done. I am freaking out about HPV and the possibility of anal cancer. However, I am scared that when I go to the gyno. they will look at me like I'm weird for askign for it. What types of doctors do anal pap smears?
I did a lot of research and apparantly anal cancer can be prevented if people just had anal pap smears. Gay men, do you have them????
Answer: No I don't, and I've been having anal sex everyday for the last 4 years. Gee, I must have had anal sex PROPERLY.
Question: Is it possible stomach acid is leaking out of my rectum? First, I have pain and sometimes bleeding and sometimes rashes in my rectum, buttocks, inner thighs and sometimes the areas around my genitals. I've been to a gastrologist, or whatever they're called and he gave me a colonoscopy. He ruled out hemmoroids, polyps, tumors, cancer and said I may have some type of fissure or possibly several. But the pain isn't concentrated in one area! It feels like acid burning all over the area. Sometimes there is blood on the tissue, sometimes it's just anal leakage, sometimes its a clear greasy fluid, but it causes extreme pain and red rashes mostly. I also have trouble making it to the bathroom on time and sometimes defecate without knowing it. I have had this problem for 10 years now and seen doctors and specialists who examined me but could not determine what was wrong. Where do I go and what should I do? Any help will be appreciated.
Actually, I do have terrible allergies, that cause sneezing fits and itchy eyes. I think it could actually be some kind of food allergy, but can you tell me which GI doc or where I can find a good one in Cincinnati?
I don't have a lot of money to spend, first I would have to see if the VA would pay for care in a private hospital. The VA doctors didn't help me.
It's not a fungal infection either, I already took treatments for fungi and they didn't help. It's probably some sort of allergy.
The VA gave me stool softeners and fiber bulking agents but they didn't work either!
I don't buy anything with Olestra in it, if I see that in the ingredients then I won't buy it!
Yes, actually, I am a Persian Gulf War veteran, and the problem started my last year in the Army which forced me to get medically discharged!
But I don't think its Chrone's disease!
I appreciate the kind words, Jamie, but I already have 100% disability compensation from the VA and SSDI payments for PTSD, I don't think they'll give me any more money for the other disease. Monday morning I'm going to the VA and check out the Gulf War Syndrome clinic they have now. They didn't have it when I first got out, but I hear they have one now.
Answer: Are you a veteran? If so, of the 1st Gulf War? My brother is, and the medications/vaccinations he was given caused these same symptoms a few years after he returned. It was labeled "Gulf War Syndrome". It really sounds like the same symptoms. This syndrome is a form of colitis. Otherwise, it seems consistent with Crohn's Disease. Ask your doctor for another referral and bring up these possibilities. It took a long time before my brother was diagnosed and treated correctly.
Yes! My brother was medically discharged also. He is now over 50% disabled and has settled with the government. You should research this a little. If you want me to, I can put you in contact with my brother.
Question: If homosexuality is natural why isn't the anus made for sex? Not according to studies I've found:
"Anal intercourse is the sine qua non of sex for many gay men. Yet human physiology makes it clear that the body was not designed to accommodate this activity. The rectum is significantly different from the vagina with regard to suitability for penetration by a penis. The vagina has natural lubricants and is supported by a network of muscles. It is composed of a mucus membrane with a multi-layer stratified squamous epithelium that allows it to endure friction without damage and to resist the immunological actions caused by semen and sperm. In comparison, the anus is a delicate mechanism of small muscles that comprise an "exit-only" passage. With repeated trauma, friction and stretching, the sphincter loses its tone and its ability to maintain a tight seal. Consequently, anal intercourse leads to leakage of fecal material that can easily become chronic.
The potential for injury is exacerbated by the fact that the intestine has only a single layer of cells separating it from highly vascular tissue, that is, blood. Therefore, any organisms that are introduced into the rectum have a much easier time establishing a foothold for infection than they would in a vagina. The single layer tissue cannot withstand the friction associated with penile penetration, resulting in traumas that expose both participants to blood, organisms in feces, and a mixing of bodily fluids.
Furthermore, ejaculate has components that are immunosuppressive. In the course of ordinary reproductive physiology, this allows the sperm to evade the immune defenses of the female. Rectal insemination of rabbits has shown that sperm impaired the immune defenses of the recipient. Semen may have a similar impact on humans.
The end result is that the fragility of the anus and rectum, along with the immunosuppressive effect of ejaculate, make anal-genital intercourse a most efficient manner of transmitting HIV and other infections. The list of diseases found with extraordinary frequency among male homosexual practitioners as a result of anal intercourse is alarming:
Anal Cancer
Chlamydia trachomatis
Cryptosporidium
Giardia lamblia
Herpes simplex virus
Human immunodeficiency virus
Human papilloma virus
Isospora belli
Microsporidia
Gonorrhea
Viral hepatitis types B & C
Syphilis25
Sexual transmission of some of these diseases is so rare in the exclusively heterosexual population as to be virtually unknown. Others, while found among heterosexual and homosexual practitioners, are clearly predominated by those involved in homosexual activity. Syphilis, for example is found among heterosexual and homosexual practitioners. But in 1999, King County, Washington (Seattle), reported that 85 percent of syphilis cases were among self-identified homosexual practitioners. And as noted above, syphilis among homosexual men is now at epidemic levels in San Francisco.
A 1988 CDC survey identified 21 percent of all Hepatitis B cases as being homosexually transmitted while 18 percent were heterosexually transmitted. Since homosexuals comprise such a small percent of the population (only 1-3 percent), they have a significantly higher rate of infection than heterosexuals.
Anal intercourse also puts men at significant risk for anal cancer. Anal cancer is the result of infection with some subtypes of human papilloma virus (HPV), which are known viral carcinogens. Data as of 1989 showed the rates of anal cancer in male homosexual practitioners to be 10 times that of heterosexual males, and growing. Thus, the prevalence of anal cancer among gay men is of great concern. For those with AIDS, the rates are doubled.
Other physical problems associated with anal intercourse are:
hemorrhoids
anal fissures
anorectal trauma
retained foreign bodies
Apparently, homosexuals contract these diseases at a much higher rate than heterosexuals.
It's sad that you are so blind to see the truth. You are living in darkness.
Answer: So am I to conclude from all that -
That anal sex is "bad" or that homosexuality is "bad"?
Because I love me some anal ; )
Nobody's forcing you into anal sex let alone with another man. So what's your problem?
Question: Isn't it inhumane to ignore the risk of homosexual sex is much greater than that of heterosexuals? I'M NOT MAKING ANY MORAL JUDGEMENTS!!!!!
Just an accurate risk assessment. The left wants to pretend that there is no higher risk than heterosexual sex. But that isn't the case that doctors are faced with each day.
The probability of a 20-year-old gay or bisexual man living to 65 years was only 32 percent, compared to 78 percent for men in general.
And not just from the higher risk of HIV/AIDS. But from:
Anal Cancer
Chlamydia trachomatis
Cryptosporidium
Giardia lamblia
Herpes simplex virus
Human papilloma virus
Isospora belli
Microsporidia
Gay bowel disease
Gonorrhea
Viral hepatitis types B & C
Syphilis
As well as a much higher suicide rate.

Question: PAP Smears and Breast exams? I think I've posted something like this b4 but oh well. I do not want to go to the doctor who does the pap smears and breast exams. 13,000 women in the US will get cervical cancer. Even though that is pretty low Iow I know it can happen to me but I don't care. I would rather die then go through treatment. Would not going as an adult raise the price on my insurance? I've had anal sex twice but I don't think that can cause any problems. I hate when people look at me like that, men and women both. My mom suggested I come with her for her exam and to talk to the doctor and by boyfriend told me to get all the facts first. I've got the facts and I still refuse to go. If I get cancer, that must mean it's my time to die. My bf lost 2 people to this cancer type and another 2 got body parts removed. My adoptive mom had cancer and so did my uncle and grandpa. I know many survivers but still refuse to go. Is this wrong?
It doesn't make a difference if it's a male or female doctor. I don't like anyone looking, even parents or family members. Everyone has to die sooner or later. I Also hate kids with a passion so kids aren't for me.
Answer: I'm not even going to bother with trying to give you the reasons why you should go because it sounds as if you have already made up your mind. If you get any kind of cancer at all, then you would rather go through the agony and humiliation of dying from something that could have been prevented or caught and treated in time than bother having routine tests ran just to make sure everything's okay. It's your body and everybody has to die sometime.

any ways.. id like some help.. im scared=/
Answer: No one here can really tell you what this could be, you will need to see a doctor for a complete examination. However, there are more likely things this could be than cancer . . .and the reason I know this is because colon cancer is a disease of older adults. Cancer is often age specific, so an 18 year old with colon cancer is not likely . . not that it can't happen, their are hereditary forms of colon cancer, but still it is not likely. What you are describing sounds more like IBS or Crohns or hemmoroids or even a fissure (tear or cut in the colon).
You need to see a doctor for a definitive diagnosis.

Answer: Although there is nothing that links laxatives to cancer taking them on a regular basis is not good for you. Penis size is also not related to cancer. However, anal sex increases your risk for HPV which is associated with anal/rectal, skin, cervical, penile and head and neck cancers. When these cancers are found in a young person they are nearly always HPV positive.

Answer: so you said that these so called nerves are protruding from you rectum canal? Are you in any pain? have you had any type of constipation or have you had any problems having a bowel movements. How have your bowel movements been. I knwo kinda gross...sorry. The only explanation that I can think of from the description you gave is that it is a hemmeroid or even a herneated rectum. I would go to the doctor but I would go to a specialist. THey have doctor that specialize in these things. Its not prostate cancer. don't worry. So maybe you can google the things i suggested and see if any of the symptoms and see if they match. If you have any more questions please feel free to email me. good luck.
