Bladder Cancer Support
Question: How do I give comfort to someone with cancer? My ex boyfriend's parents and I are very close. We still get together for holidays and what not. They are also the grandparents of my 8 year old daughter. I just found out that my ex's dad has cancer in his gull bladder. He is going into surgery on Dec 11 to have his gull bladder removed. They are not sure whether the cancer has or will spread to the rest of his body. What can I do to bring them some comfort and show support in this time? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :( Thank you
Answer: I have first hand experience in dealing with cancer. What would be very helpful? Offer to clean the house, offer to make dinner. Help the wife so she can focus on her husband. Also, visit him. For my mom, I put together a "hospital kit". I included a washcloth, bar of soap, shampoo, magazines, new pjs' etc... whatever they like. And once grand-dad is able to, bring your daughter often so he can see her. That will really cheer him up!

Question: Cancer Ribbons? My friends mom just found out she has bladder cancer and I wanted to get the right ribbon to support them. Does anyone know what bladder cancers color ribbon is?
Answer: That answer is correct. YELLOW is for bladder cancer. (See the attached link for verification). It's very considerate of you to support your friend and his mom by going to the trouble to identify the ribbon color and helping increase cancer awareness with a ribbon.
My wife was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer about 2 weeks ago. I was devastated, however she took it pretty well. This web-site is where I found out the color for pancreatic cancer.
While some cancers are better to have than others - no cancer is good. I wish your friend's mom well and hope her cancer is treatable. Thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
Question: My 10 yrs old Shitzu/Poodle has just been diagnosed with cancer in the bladder? I was told they cannot do surgery or chemo on him and was given Metacam and Onco Support. I cannot afford an Oncologist so I searched on the net looking for herbal remedies and I found a very informative article wrtten by R.M. Clemmons DVM, PhD. I want to know whether I could give my dog Ginko Bilboa, Green Tea & Grape Seed Extract, Co-Enzyme Q10, Echinacea and Cat's Claw together with his prescribed medications. Jab
Answer: Sorry to hear about your boy. Our jack was 11 years old when we found out he had cancer of the tissue. He was our baby and one big doberman. We asked the vet what we could do and he said because of his age he wouldn't be able to go through chemo so to just take him home and love him . He lived for a year . He was 12 years old when he went to doggy heaven. He went down one night and didn't get back up so I slept on the floor all night with him and the next morning we took him to the vet and had him put to sleep which was the hardest thing we ever had to do and it has been almost 4 years since our boy went to doggy heaven and I still miss him. He was my baby. Just love your boy while you have him and you will know when the time has come to let him go. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your boy.
Question: I am looking for some support in the transition from a SAD to a raw vegan diet for my family. Any advice? Last year my mother was diagnosed with bladder cancer. She already has diabetes and MS. The thought of any of her ailments being inherited to me or any of my four children was terrifying.
I did much research, and finally found something that truly made sense to me. RAW food. I have been enjoying the benefits from it for some time, and am now enjoying living with alkaline blood. My husband is mostly raw, and loves everything I prepare. He still enjoys eating cooked food, dairy and occasionally meat, but 70% of his diet is raw.
My children, ranging from 7-16years are "grossed out" by it. With encouragement, they are consuming less pasteurized dairy products, and eating more greens.
Does anyone know of any steps I can take to further encourage their participation in this lifestyle that has me feeling so good?
Some of you will inevitably attack raw vegan food... but know this... this diet has cured me of gum disease, chronic acne, cluster headaches and high blood pressure... so whatever your argument, make it good... because unless you have been raw, you couldn't possibly know the true benefits of it.
Answer: Maybe have movie night.
There are at least two movies with a focus just on raw foods.

Then there are several others talking about the dangers of bad foods and how important it is to change the SAD (Standard American Diet aka Western Diet).

Question: What do you think of this article?? truth or fiction...? FACTORY FARMED CHICKEN
Almost all chicken meat in the United States is produced through the "factory farming" system, in which animals are closely crowded together in filthy, disease-ridden conditions. Because of these unhealthy conditions, many chickens die even before they get to the slaughterhouse. For example, in an operation with 100,000 broiler chickens, approximately 250 birds die per day. Before being caught for the trip to the slaughterhouse, food and water are withdrawn; at the slaughterhouse, birds wait in trucks another 1 to 9 hours to be killed, sometimes in very hot or very cold weather.
Chicken is far worse than beef in terms of contamination and bacteria. The Atlanta Constitution reported in 1991: "Every week throughout the South, millions of chickens leaking yellow pus, stained by green feces, contaminated by harmful bacteria, or marred by lung and heart infections, cancerous tumors or skin conditions are shipped to consumers." Salmonella is present in over one-third of all chickens, and many millions of Americans are infected each year. The symptoms of salmonella poisoning are very similar to the flu (though only occasionally fatal), and thus many who are infected may never even be aware of what they have. To prevent these problems, chickens are usually heavily dosed with antibiotics (more than half of all antibiotic use in the U. S. is on factory farms!), but this indiscriminate use of antibiotics in turn helps create resistant strains of salmonella and other disease-causing germs, decreasing the effectiveness of antibiotics to fight human infections.
HEART DISEASE, CANCER, AND MEDICAL COSTS
And even if bacterial contamination were eliminated, we still have the tremendous problems of heart disease and cancer, the leading causes of death in the United States. Repeated efforts to lower cholesterol levels through switching from beef to chicken have ended in failure. Chicken is somewhat lower in fat than beef, but it still contains quite a bit of fat and even more cholesterol per calorie than does beef or pork.
Moreover, meat which is lower in fat is always higher in protein, and excess protein is damaging to health just as is excess fat. Chicken which has 29% of its calories as fat contains 71% of its calories as protein, while ground beef which has 49% of calories of fat has 51% of its calories as protein. In terms of excess protein consumption chicken is worse than beef or pork. Problems caused by or related to excess protein consumption include kidney stones, kidney disease, osteoporosis, bladder cancer, and lymphoma. Chicken meat also completely lacks fiber; lack of fiber is linked to a variety of digestive disorders ranging from constipation to colon cancer. The three basic problems with our American-style diet—too much fat, too much protein, and lack of fiber—are thus all made worse by chicken consumption. Those who switch from beef to chicken are at best trading one set of health hazards for a different set.
Chicken has done little for the nation's health. In the past twenty-five years, we have seen a huge increase in poultry consumption; but health care expenditures during the same period showed phenomenal growth, now costing us hundreds of billions of dollars each year in the United States. The "switch" from beef to chicken has evidently had little, if any, effect on rising medical costs.
ENVIRONMENTAL RISKS
Raising chickens affects the environment as well. Feeding grain to chicken may be somewhat less inefficient than feeding grain to cattle, but it is still wasteful—you must feed at least three times the amount of protein, calories, and other nutrients to the chickens in the form of plant foods than you retrieve in animal flesh at the end. Each year millions of children die due to malnutrition or starvation, and yet the Western countries continue to waste this grain by creating more and more chicken flesh.
Moreover, chicken production results in incredible quantities of manure; a one-million hen complex produces 125 tons of wet manure each day. Animal agriculture in the U. S. produces many times more waste products than humans do. In many areas of the country livestock manure causes dangerous contamination of the drinking water due to nitrates. Even when used as a plant fertilizer, chicken manure can cause difficulties, as in Texas several years ago when cantaloupe fertilized with chicken manure caused sickness in human beings. The fault lay not with the cantaloupe but with the disease-ridden chicken manure.
COMPASSION FOR ANIMALS
And what about the effect of the "factory farming" system on the animals themselves? Over 7.5 billion birds are killed each year in the United States. We would probably like to believe that these animals at least lived fairly comfortable lives until they were taken to the slaughterhouse, and would also like to believe that chickens are then quickly and painlessly killed. Unfortunately, this is not true.
Chickens are crowded together in cramped, windowless sheds, and must breathe concentrated excretory ammonia fumes which damage their eyes and lungs. They are mutilated by "debeaking"—the practice of cutting off most of the chicken's beak when the chicken is young. The reason for "debeaking" is that without it, chickens in their cramped circumstances would peck each other and even attack and kill each other. Obviously, a chicken which needs to be "debeaked" in the first place is not a happy chicken; and the process of debeaking (akin to partial amputation of a human finger, without anesthesia) is quite painful in itself. Birds are deliberately bred to gain more weight than their legs and feet can support, leading to more pain.
Turkey production is no better than chicken production. Turkeys, like chickens, are kept in intensely overcrowded quarters; they must be heavily dosed with antibiotics, are subject to many diseases, and have their beaks and their toes partially amputated (without anaesthetic, of course). Turkeys over the years have been bred to be fatter and fatter; today's turkey is so overweight that it cannot mate and must be bred through artificial insemination.
"Humanely raised" poultry avoids some of the worst abuses, such as debeaking and overcrowding. But chickens and turkeys are still killed long before their natural lifespan has elapsed, and it still is not a healthful food, as meat from any chicken or turkey—no matter how "humanely" raised—is going to be high in fat or protein (or both), and completely lacking in fiber.
Chickens do not die easy deaths, either. The "humane slaughter" laws do not cover chicken or any other poultry. Slaughterhouses are operated as mechanical "disassembly" lines with as little human intervention as possible. Stunning devices are not required by law, and even where used only 1/3 of the chickens are effectively stunned. Some chickens have their throats slit and bleed to death while fully conscious. Millions of unfortunate chickens also escape the automatic knives that slit their throats, and thus go into the next stage—the scalding tank—alive and fully conscious.
Answer: It is truth. Another problem with buying chicken at the stores, is realizing that chicken parts are THERE, because, often, the other parts of THAT same chicken had cancer. Seriously, cancerous parts get cut out, and the other parts of the chicken do get sold as parts.
I have seen turkey farms that did all those horrible things to the critters.
I have raised my own chickens, and found that, although I was raising them for the eggs produced, that chickens are really filthy to raise in even small numbers. Trying to keep conditions clean for my own chickens was a full time job! I loved having the fresh eggs, they were delicious! I stopped raising my own, for the fresh eggs, when I just could not keep up with how much fecal matter there was to deal with. I only had a few chickens! I had a great house for them, and kept it nice. So, if I couldn't stand just a few of them around, think what it must be like to do it for a living.......the more chickens you have, the more money you make. Dreadful problem.
Question: So my mom wants to become a vegetarian? She thinks it will help her bladder cancer. I'm the cook in the family. How do I help support her without having to become a vegetarian my self or making my 6 year old son become one too? Its not fair to me or him but i want to help her in this new lifestyle she has chosen to pursue. Any good recipes? Please help!
Yeah I know not to give her meat or leave the meat out of meals for her. I'm not an idiot. I just wanted some good recipes that I cam make for her because I know she will get tired of steamed vegs. eventually.
Answer: All that is true, but you need to be conscious of making sure she gets an adequate level of protein in her new diet. I'd suggest she aim at being the sort that continues to eat fish and eggs. Make sure she gets 3 glasses of skim milk aday. (Or soy milk, if she'd prefer.) Or two glasses of milk and 1 yogurt a day. Nuts are a good source of protein. Also beans and peanutbutter.
Here's a recipe example: say you're fixing meat & rice for the family; for your Mom: saute in olive oil some minced fresh garlic, chopped onion & green pepper and add a can of black beans, then serve her some of this over her rice. (You can add other spices for either a more Italian or Mexican flavor.)
If you make spaggetti for the family, separate some sauce to put on her pasta before you add meat to it for everyone else. Same with chili. Pretty easy.
Anything with cooked tomato including sauces, soups & catsup are good for her to eat because tomatoes have lysine in them, which is known as a cancer-fighter.
Lots of whole grain in her diet also: such as brown rice, wheat pastas, wheat bread, etc. Also good for cancer-fighting.
Good luck
Question: Should I cancel our reception? Ok, fiance and I got engaged Feb 2008, originally planned to have small wedding (50 guests) on Sept 13, 2009. Put deposit down on reception hall, bought dress, rings, etc. In Sept 2008, fiance found out he had major health problem and needed surgery but had no health insurance. Tried to find a pro-bono dr, with no luck so we had an impromtu wedding at the local courthouse with immediate family and best man/maid of honor, put him on my health insurance plan, and rescheduled reception for later date (June, 2010). Turned out he had bladder cancer and we caught it just in time!! A few months later, he gets lyme's disease pretty bad and we're still fighting it. In addition to his troubles, I had my own health problems and gained weight due to steroids I was on for Asthma. Not just a little weight - from a size 2 to size 14. Been a size 2 most of my life. Lowered the steroids, stopped gaining weight, but very very hard to lose. People at work making fun of me behind my back, family talking about me, etc even tho they know why I gained it. Last week, my now husband gets laid off. He decides to go back to school for a different career and I support this decision 100% as the new career will double his pay and give him benefits, etc. I can support us on my salary with no trouble, but I can't save for a reception AND support us, as unemployment is only 60% of what he was making. His career training won't start for at least another month, and it's 6 months long. Between people gossiping, medical co-pays (to the tune of $8000), my husband not being able to get a job until training complete, and my son (from previous relationship) going to college in 2 yrs, I am trying to decide if we should call the reception off. We had our wedding - it was really small, but it was the most beautiful day - 80 sunny day in October while the sun set, it was wonderful. I don't want to deal with the expense, the gossip from so-called friends and relatives regarding my weight and his health problems/unemployment, and while it makes me sad to think we won't get to have our celebration, am trying to figure out what's best. Help!
Answer: Take your money and go on one heck of a vacation. You'll have to wait until you husband has vacation time at work..however keep your funds. You can spend it on a cruise to relax and celebrate life. Go to an all-inclusive resort, or party in Vegas.
If you don't want to leave out true relatives and dedicated friends, maybe you can host a small party at your home. Or rent a room at the community center. Then take the rest of the money and vacation. You and your husband deserve some time to relax and celebrate life. You guys had a rough start. The last thing I would suggest is to have a reception for the sake of just having one. If you truly don't feel it's financially possible, and you don't have the support, don't do it. Just wait and plan something for you and him. It will be more special.
Also don't worry about the weight. You have someone who loves you whatever size you become. It's pretty petty for someone to gossip about a co-workers weight gain. Maybe God is trying to show you people's true colors b/4 you spend money on a bunch of ungrateful people
Question: My mother just passed...how do i deal? This month I turned 19 years old. It was the worst birthday, as I spent it in the hospital watching my mother in pain. My mom was diagnosed with bladder cancer on march 2009. And about a week ago my mother passed away. She was 46 years old. Her and I were very close, and she was the only person that really understood me. She was my best friend, my only parent, my support team, my everything. And now she is gone. I watched my mother die. She was in the hospital for about a month until her body stopped responding to the medication. After she passed a hugged her dead body, I kissed her over and over again. When we had the funeral I felt like my whole body was being torn apart. I always feel my mother in my heart. I often looking around for her because I just feel like she's near. I miss her hugs, kisses, her laugh, and the way she smiled. Every time I think about her I start to cry, which is practically all day. I know my mother is in a much happier place. I believe that everything happens for a reason and that God took her away because it was her time. Yet i still have a hard time with dealing with the fact that she is gone. As I sit at home everything reminds me of her in this house. My dad was never really involved in my life so he isn't here for me. My siblings think i'm too emotional since they are all boys. And the rest of my family that leaves out of state, keep trying to get me to accepted the fact that she is gone. But its soo hard since I keep waiting for a phone call from her, or for her to pop her head in my room to yell at me for not cleaning up, or for her to come by and kiss and hug me before bed. Even as i write this I cry. It feels like so long ago since I had a mother, and that she was just this beautiful dream and I woke up with this depressing life. I want to see my mother so bad. I want the love that she gave me to happen again. But I know that no one will ever love me the way my mother did. I feel like my life is falling apart. I don't know how to deal. I don't know whats going to happen with my life.
Answer: i'm really sorry about your loss. your post made me cry cause i don't know what would i do without my mom. you have to be strong. i know it hurts. my cousin also lost her mom on friday. try to focus on something else or even go to groups to help you cope with the loss. i believe churches have that. everything will be ok. hugs
Question: Atheists: do you think I'm lying about the modern-day miracles I'm presenting to you right now? I only want a yes or no answer if you think that I'm lying. I am a Christian, and as part of my beliefs I know that lying or deceiving is wrong, so if you are going to dismiss the following, then just say "no". Comment if you wish...
1. tumors disappearing, cured blood disorders, cured infertility, solved various legal/social problems, all of which resulted through prayer only, supported with medical evidence (x-rays, doctor's notes, etc) recorded by various people in the book of miracles of St. Mercurius
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Mercurius
Also, there have been other accounts of cured paralysis, a skin disease, cancer in the bladder, diabetes, irregular blood circulation, polio, all from the Pope of Orthodox Christianity himself!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Cyril_VI_of_Alexandria
Other examples of miracles include calculi disappearing, cured hepatitis, several viruses in the liver, all of which happened without surgery, supported by medical evidence, I have the records right in front of me!
2.
Marian Apparitions, including:

3. Oil dripping from icons:

Here's one I uploaded myself:

Two things to keep in mind when considering these:
1. It could be plausible that some Christians may be lying, but when you have hundreds of thousands of Christians reporting these things, it is logical to conclude that these are true miracles, otherwise, there would be no point of their entire beliefs and faith of them being Christian.
2. The miracles I've presented here are all approved of the Coptic Orthodox Church (Orthodox Christianity, which is in relation to the Roman Catholic Church)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coptic_Orthodox
Also consider the Miracle of the Holy Fire and the moving of the Mokattam Mountain
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_the_Tanner)
**yes or no, remember
And that's only the miracles side of it; you still have cosmological, ontological arguments, human emotions, the complexity of life, etc
I am curious as to why everyone so far has responded within less than 2 minutes of when I posted.
I want you to consider them, look at the links, please take the time. Thank you
Answer: No, I don't think you're intentionally lying. I think you've attributed events that have a natural cause explanation to being 'miracles' preformed by your god.
Question: Best Friend Problem! Advice? Help? Tips? Pleasee!? My best friend and I basically split up.. This is how it started, she got confused about her orientation.. and put on her myspace that she was bisexual, her cousins immediately told my friend's mom. Her mom called me the next day yelling at me telling that if I ever talk to her daughter or even get close to her she'll call the cops on me and get me sent to juvie and also that I'm the reason why she changed, I'm a bad influence to her daughter. My mom heard the conversation and got sad, cause she couldn't believe that my friend's mom just said that to me.. Because my mom has neverrrrr said that or even been mean/yelled at my friend ever. Next day my mom was taken to the hopsital due to reconstruction of Gall Bladder and Anemia and might have cancer in the blood.. I've shed tears more than ever. My friend calls me and was like "Oh my mom said that she hopes your mom dies" and I just hung up all mad and crying.. my friend called me later and said "I was kidding" still it hurt soooo much. One day later she calls me saying that she doesn't wanna be best friends with me anymore because her mom says so and that I don't support her. She also said I sucked as a bestfriend, that I'm rarely there for her. But wtf man.. I showed up at the hospital at 1:30AM just to see if she was okay, I've stay with her all night till her mom gets home, my dad has hit me and punished me for something she broke, she stole my freakin boyfriend and i forgave her, she's put me through so much stuff but still I try my best being there. So anyways she was like "Oh my mom doesn't want me to be your best friend, I mean we can be best friends. Move on its time. You just suck as a best friend truely." UGHHHH. I don't know anymore I told my other friends and they said that her mind is in a tornado. Telling me this while my mom is in a crisis. I hate her as of this moment and also her mom. HELP ME WHAT SHOULD I DO?!?!
Answer: That's harsh! i mean she changed he sexuality and her mom flip in gets madd at you! she is not a good friend at all. if i was here id be fighting my mom and telling her it wasn't you who made me change it was MY choice and completely not because of her! just please please let me be her Best friend still! and its totally not he moms choice who her friends are wow! what a jerk! Im sorry your feeling sad and i hope your mom gets better!
Question: I'm pregnant, but I have two kids already and I need some solid, non judgmental advice? My bladder was distended from my last child, because of it I have uncomfortable urination. I have been nauseous for about two weeks now and I have hypertension and therefore a predisposition to preeclampsia/toxemia/stroke. My mom died from an aneurysm, my dad from cancer, and I have very limited support from my boyfriend, who has proven to be an inconsistent partner. We almost break up once a month due to some kind of "discovery" of mine. Like once he said he stopped smoking and then I caught him smoking. He lied about going to a strip club--I had told him it was ok if it was for a bach. party or friends from out of town or for business (which it was) but he still chose to lie about it. Another time, he lied about a law suit he is in...I'm so stressed out! Added to this, I found so much porn and so often I'm thinking he has an addictive personality. And it all scares me to death. He says it's a form of "escape." from reality. I never thought our reality was THAT bad. HELP! I'm so lost.
Answer: Your children, and your health are your priorities. I urge you to consider your options with your pregnancy and life, and how you're going to give your children the kind of life they deserve. I've included some websites, and there may be a "crisis pregnancy center" of some kind in your area.
You have to put the guy on the back burner- if it meant to be, what kind of role he should play in your children's life, what or who he is doing right now- NONE OF THAT MATTERS RIGHT NOW. You will regret wallowing in this relationship- you will never regret taking control of your life and future and providing the best for your children (and yourself).

Question: Need info etc on prostate operation? Hi my dad who is 62 is going into hospital for an operation on his prostate and bladder. He is type 1 diabetic and in july he was really ill, so ill that he was.nt expected to survive. He was on life support. He had gone into heart failure, kidney failure, had fluid on his lungs. Thankfully he came out of it but when he came around and after he became better he could not urinate. So he has a catheter since july. His prostate is enlarged so i think they are removing it. His blood results for his prostate was low so they said it would be high if it was cancer so that was a good sign but could.nt rule it out yet. His own father (my grandad) died 3 months ago from prostate cancer. Anyway they are also doing surgery on his bladder. I do not know what this is for. He is keeping well since he was discharged but his blood sugars are still going very high sometimes. Up to 32mmol. Most of the time its fine but maybe every 2nd day it would go high. He has also lost some weight since being discharged from hospital. I am just worried about this opperction because of his health conditions and worried that this could set him back alot, or even is there likely to be complications because of his diabetes?
Answer: Firstly most enlarged prostate glands are not cancerous. Benign enlargement occurs in the vast majority of men when they get older, and this can often cause difficulty with passing water, as the prostate gland surrounds the water passage exit from the bladder. If there are only two alternatives, either living with a catheter and bag, or having surgery, then the choice is a no brainer in a man with Type 1 diabetes. Both the catheter and the diabetes will seriously predispose to recurring urine infections that can ascend to involve his already poorly kidneys.
Unfortunately because your dad has had heart failure, and other problems, the treatment of an enlarged prostate with tablets may not be possible, and so he needs surgery.
The most likey operation is called a Trans-urethral resection (TUR), and the enlarged prostate is partially removed vian an instrument inserted up the water passage (Urethra), under either general or spinal anaesthetic. This decision will depend on his general suitability and other problems, as well as his own preference if there is a choice.
These operations, carried out by a urologist are highly successful, and he will soon be without a catheter again.
Dont worry unduly about his diabetes. This is clearly an issue, but all hospitals are very well versed in controlling things during operations as Type 1 is common, and he will almost certainly have an iv with insulin and a dextrose iv as well. It is likely his blood sugars will be better controlled during his stay than at home as they will have close attention.
I hope this explanation helps. I'm sure all will be well, and it is a big thing that your dad doesn't have a catheter much longer.
Question: Failed incapacity benefit capability medical? Despite suffering uncontrollable incontinence due to side effects of prostrate cancer i,ve just failed IB medical with 6
points. My GP is willing to support me with a MED 4 certificate
in asking them to reconsider.Do these docs who do the medicals actually listen to you or just put anything down ,as despite my incontinence i was scored only 3 points(loses control of bladder at least once a month)rather than the 15 it should have been(no voluntary control over bladder).
Ps!1 am a 50 year old male and had surgery to remove my prostrate mar2006.
Ps!whilst my appeal is in motion am i still entitled to IB?Or is it a case of guilty until proved innocent?
Obtained MED4 from my gp,then was advised to claim JSA whilst my claim was being looked at.Guess what!!!!been told i can,t claim JSA as my MED4 renders me unable to work.Catch 22 or what!!!To the DWP hello is anybody listening.
My failed medical form also claimed it was based on info from my gp,to which my gp replied when i asked him,LIARS.
Answer: You should have pissed all over him - that would have made him reconsider his scoresheet.
Oh get a life you negative thumbsters - it's an effing joke for Kristsake.
Question: Surgery or is it time for the alternative? Here's my delima.
My vet says my 13 year old, female mix (Pomeranian, Pekingese, Shih Tzu, Spitz) has a mammory tumor (breast cancer).
She is scheduled for surgery on the 28th of this month (Jan).
I've found another tumor on her underbelly, opposite the one the vet is to remove. It is smaller in size but the same kind of tumor. The vet did not find this one but it is there all the same.
She is starting to lose her hearing (normal for her age)
She is starting to get cataracts (also normal for her age)
She is very seizure prone having up to one grand mall per month.
Her mother and father both had episodes of seizures.
She has also had to have bladder stones removed about 5 1/2 years ago, the surgery was very hard on her.
Vet says her heart and lungs sound great that of course if a total plus.
Some days she has the energy of a puppy, playing with the cat, chasing him around....nipping at the kids in a playful mood. Other days she's down and just doesn't feel well. But like I said there are still days that she is full of spunk.
I've had this dog since she was born (I owed her mother as well) so she is 'my baby'
I guess I'm just looking for some advice.....should I put her through what will end up being a double surgery (I still need to call the vet to inform her of the second tumor)
Or do I call it quits and have her put down? I DO NOT WANT HER TO SUFFER. I also don't want to lose her, but I have to do what is right by her.
Money is not an object, my husband already said have the surgery done if that's what needed to be done. But that was before the second tumor. He will still support me if surgery is the best option.
Is surgery the best option? Vet says the tumor will more than likely come back....could be a year or more.....could be in a month.
She is not suffering at all at this point!
Helpful advice please.
Answer: Quality of life versus quantity!
If she still has the majority of her days as 'good' days then that should make your decision much easier.
The vet needs to know about the second tumor so he can take care of both during the same surgical procedure.
Keep in mind that the final decision will be yours and make sure it is the decision that is most comfortable for you in the future. You need to know that you will never have to second guess your final decision.
Good Luck to you & your little girl
Question: What do you think of this statement supporting tanning bed use? Do you think this means that REGULAR and fairly frequent visits to the tanning bed is actually OKAY?
It's definitely no guaruntee that you'll get skin cancer but it is a 100% guaruntee that your skin will get wrinkly earlier and will look like saggy leather earlier.
EVERYONE who regularly tans ends up with horrible skin later.
I saw this from tanningbeds.lifetips.com, and was very surprised.
I've never been a regular tanner. I've never even owned a tanning membership, but this was really interesting to me.
What do you all think?
Thanks.
Protective Properties of UV Rays
The protective benefits of UV radiation is important to understand. Warnings about limited and sensible exposure to the sun or UV radiation are greatly exaggerated. Several researchers, most notably Dr. William Grant, have published peer-reviewed articles on the exosure of the body to ultravoilet light.
In America, increased sun exposure would result in 185,000 fewer cases of internal cancer and 30,000 fewer deaths from cancer of the breast, ovaries, colon, prostate, bladder, uterus, esophagus, rectum, and stomach. By comparison, about 7500 die each year from skin cancer. UV exposure also protects against the development of multiple sclerosis, a devastating autoimmune disease. Safe UV exposure is available through indoor tanning.
Opinions please?
Thanks!
Answer: Sounds like bullshit to me and just a marketing ploy. No way is laying under massive UV ray bulbs good for your skin... no way. Skin is incredibly delicate.
