Bone Cancer Center
Question: My Friend has cancer, how can I raise money? My friend of 8 years has just found out he has bone cancer. The cancer is spreading, and we want to raise money to send to the cancer center where he is being treated. We are trying to think of many interesting ideas to raise money. We have a limited space, and we want to do it through our school, so no carnivals. My friend is 14, and he is really scared. We wanted to raise money for him and the cancer center, so please send suggestions.
I already tried fundraising-ideas.org, so please send more websites and ideas. Please keep it cheap and safe!! P.S. we are mid schoolers.
Answer: I know in my school they had something called B.A.L.T.O (Bring A Light To Others). We would pick one person that year that needed more help than others and just donate money. They'd have a pep rally, it was pretty cool. Maybe you can talk to your principal and see if something like that can be done.
Question: Blood Cancer - Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML)? Dear Sir,
I am an Indian National. I have been suffering from Blood Cancer (Chronic Myeloid Leukemia - CML) for the last 3 years. I have been continuously taking medicines & going for bone marrow test every six months.
Now as per my Doctors, this medicine is not enough to control the situation. Doctors says, there is continuous reduction of hemoglobin & chromosomes in my body. Doctors prescribed me now new medicince called “DASATINIB”
Please let me know the following:-
1.Name of the Countries, where I can get “Dasatinib” medicine.
2.Is it available in India or nearby countries? Please provide contact details (Telephone number & e-mail).
3.What is the approximate cost of “Dasatinib” per Tablet?
4.Treatment of Blood Cancer (Chronic Myeloid Leukemia) is very expensive and now out of my budget. I am a low income person & I can not afford expensive medicine as well as I can not pay for the treatment. Please let me know if there is any Charity or free Cancer Treatment Hospital any where in the World. Please provide contact details (Telephone number & e-mail).
5.Is there any Charity, who can provide me “Dasatinib” or free Cancer Treatment?
6.I have been working in Kuwait (Middle East). There is Free Cancer Hospital (KCC) in Kuwait. I have been getting free treatment of Cancer but Medicines I have to buy my own. Kuwait Cancer Center is giving free Medicines only for Kuwaiti Nationals but not for any other expatriates.
Your prompt & valuable advice will be highly appreciated on the above

Question: Arguement with husband!? Okay, here goes, my husbands uncle was diagnosed with bone cancer in November of last year, he has been recieving treatment and the cancer center in houston his uncle is from kansas, we live in texas, well we have been going to houston every weekend he was in houston right, well they recently had to comeback to houston for some more test they found out he had about maybe 2 more months to live, we plan on going up there this weekend as well.
well my family had planned on coming down to visit starting the 14 and were going to stay for my kids spring break till about the 19th, well my husband springs this on me well im might take off the kids spring break to go down and see my uncle and this is only if he is in kansas that is, well i got a little upset because my family who i never get to see is coming i say well what am igonna tell them, he said tell them to cancel i got pissed off and hung up on him was i wrong to get mad i know his uncle is dying but i need to see my family too help
Oh and my husband always seems to do this stuff when my family decides to come see me and my kids. Im very upset about this, how should i go about approaching this situation we have already argued today and have not talked since. I just feel that when it comes to my family he acts like they dont matter, now I love his family and would never keep him or my kids away from them, but my husband always says it is just in your head and makes me feel like everything is my fault, im tired of this can someone give me some good advice, i cant go to my sisters because then they will just run there big mouths, and my husband was not liek this before we got married he reminds me of how my dad use to act when i was a little girl but he is not as mean as my father was, thanks and help please!
Answer: Why cant you do both? He can see the uncle and you see your family. If you must choose one, though, I would choose the uncle and do the family at a later time.
Question: Praying to Jesus..? Why is it that if you pray to jesus tonight to heal all innocent and defenseless babies with bone cancer.....There will still be the same exact number of babies with bone cancer?
Why don't you call the nearest children's cancer treatment center tonight and ask them how many kids there have cancer......Pray for god to heal just one of them tonight and then call tomorrow for the results?
Is it because you already know what the result will be and you don't want to waste your time?
(btw, I donate a portion of my income to cancer treatment....you see that has a chance of actually helping people.)
The scripture says that if you pray to jesus...HE WILL HEAL and answer your prayers.
Would anyone like to try and test this scripture out tonight on a kid with cancer?
ohhhhh, so it's my fault jesus won't heal.
You people and your dellusions are pathetic.
Monica 80: OK then honey, call the cancer ward, ask how many kids with cancer are there.....Pray for god to heal them tonight.....call tommorrow for the results and let's see if I'm right.
Answer: well... donating money works, praying doesn´t,, enough with this jesus scam!
Question: 19 Year old, Caucasian male needs opinion on whether at risk of lung cancer. AKA should I see doc ASAP? I am a smoker have smoked for around 5 years, currently I have decided to quit and am currently smoking less than 5 smokes a day. However my question relates to lung cancer; I have had around 8 bronchial infections and pneumonia once. A little over a week ago I coughed up a rather nasty looking bit of phlegm with what looked like a vein/artery in it (some blood). This caused me to become anxious about it, I have read that no-one really gets lung cancer at my age but I have a few symptoms that I have read online. These include:
- Coughing up blood
- Pain in my lower right end of ribcage that wont go away (hurts more if I lie face down)
- Smoker (was mainly marijuana through water pipe, also cigarettes though)
- Loss of appetite
- Dropped from 70-65Kg
I also should note that the loss of appetite may be a withdrawal symptom of quitting marijuana (about a month ago) and I have what I am guessing is an inflamed lymph node or thyroid gland on neck. Next to my collar bone in the center of my neck which is about 1+1/2cm X 1/2cm.
Should I be worried and see my GP ASAP? or should I just mention it next time I visit? or is there virtually no risk of someone my age getting lung cancer? Very worried about it.
Thanks in advance!
I depended on marijuana to eat and sleep and for a couple of days after quitting was unable to sleep and ate about 1/2 a meal a day. Other than that I know there's no physical withdrawals, I'd say both those things are mental dependencies for me anyway.
Cheers for the advice, I'll see my doc tomorrow.
Answer: Age is very relevant when it comes to cancer and is one of the most important pieces of information needed. Lung cancer is rare in young people, and by young I mean under 40, when it does occur smoking is not the cause. Clearly something is causing you to not feel well so you should see your doctor, but I wouldn’t worry about lung cancer.
Question: Recent cancer diagnosis, time left? My aunt found out she has adenocarcinoma of the lung a couple weeks ago. She had a PET scan done the end of last week to see if the cancer was anywhere else in her body, and her results came back yesterday that it is also in her liver and throughout many bones in her body. She has not seen her oncologist yet. Is there a medical professional who is fluent enough with how cancer works in the body, that would be able to give an estimated amount of time that she has left to live? She was already told it is terminal and that she'd have less than a year, but that was before the PET scan came back even worse.
Also, does anyone know if the Cancer Treatment Centers of America are as good as they advertise? Or of an excellent facility that specializes in the treatment of cancer? Is there any hope for her? Her lung tumor is inoperable, but she is only in her mid-fifties and it too young to die.
Answer: It would completely impossible for anyone here to guess her time left on this earth, without knowing many details of her illness and her doctor's treatment plan.
Only her oncologist will be able to answer this important question and even then, most doctors hesitate to give patients an exact amount of time.
The Cancer Treatment Centers of America give me, and other nurses and doctors, a bit of a pain. Their television commercials create a lot of false hope in people, citing only their most amazing cases. They are also extremely expensive and take very few insurance plans. Their reputation is not good in the medical world.
Have her write down every question that she has for when she sees her doctor and peace to your family at this tough time.
Question: amputating my dog's leg? okay, here's the deal. my dog was recently diagnosed with osteosarcoma. which is basically bone cancer. the vet is giving him two to four weeks. he said that amputation was an option seeing as herc (my dog) is in good physical condition except for the leg where the cancer is centered, and that the pain would be the main reason for putting him down so soon.
Hercules, is a boxer bulldog, about 105lbs., 10 yrs old. he's built very similar to an english bulldog, with most of his weight in the front, the affected leg is his front left.
so my question is, with his age, physical build, and weight, would he be able to manuvere around on one foreleg? and would he be happy?
i really appreciate all the help. i'm sorry if anyone was confused. my main dilemma is his weight distribution. he's a big dog and most of that is centered in his front end. that's my problem when think about amputation.
the vet thinks he may have seen more of the cancer in the lungs. we're going to check that out before we make a decision.
Answer: If it were a back leg, I'd say go for it. But a front leg on a heavy dog would be tough. I saw a Rottie that had a front leg taken off and she was having a very difficult time walking. It was a recent surgery, so maybe in time she would be ok. It was just hard to watch her.
Also, your vet may or may not have told you that taking the leg will only give you 1 yr, may 1 1/2 yrs at most. And, if the cancer has spread beyond the leg, much less time. If you are thinking of doing this, you really should be consulting with a oncologist. A general vet does not have the training to properly treat bone cancer.
It's a hard decision, but be sure you know all the facts before you make that decision.
Question: do i have lung cancer? ok, so i have chest pain about 4.5 inches down from my collar bone and about an inch of the center of my chest. neither of my parents smoke and nobody does in my house. i have smoked marijuana 3 times, never smoked a cigarette in my life or a cigar. i have smoked about 13 cigarillos (mini cigars) and have been exposed to minor second hand smoke, about as much as most people are maybe less.
but i also am 14, have no history of any cancer in my family and am athletic and play lots of sports, right now im in rugby so the chest pain might just be a rip injury. i also have pectus excavatum, which is when you have a small indent in your ribcage (google it youll see wat i mean).and i do have a little bit of a cough but not a bad one.
Answer: It could be a rip injury, for sure. I've pulled muscles and had scary chest pain. You could have asthma, which can cause your ribcage to go in when you breathe.
You could be coming down with a cold, even. I think one of the signs of lung cancer is coughing up bloody or discolored phlegm. Really, I wouldn't assume you have lung cancer based on some pain. It could be anything, so you should see a doctor. I had pain in my lungs, and it was my thyroid out of balance, and it went away when my meds increased. See a doctor :)
Question: Well - it seems they WON'T accept my gay brother's bone marrow.? This is just WRONG! This is from marrow.org. Just because he's gay, they won't accept his bone marrow even if he is a match to save my other brother who has leukemia because he's "at risk for AIDS".

Question: Do you investigate before you vaccinate? INVESTIGATE BEFORE YOU VACCINATE!
Federally recommended vaccinations ensure that a baby will be injected with a total of 51 viral and bacterial antigens by the time it is 6 months old! Included with all these germs are preservatives, adjuvants and antibiotics proven highly toxic to a baby's brain and nervous system. The federal government's vaccine injury data base contains names of thousands of dead and disabled babies and children who were healthy just prior to vaccination.
Serious vaccination side effects discussed in medical literature include: sudden infant death syndrome, asthma, leukemia, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, encephalopathy, blindness, bowel diseases and neurological disorders. According to vaccine packet inserts, the shots for hepatitis B, MMR, DPT, chickenpox and HIB can cause EAR INFECTIONS in susceptible children. A child loses 7% of his hearing each time a tube is inserted to drain the ear. Many children are vaccine-damaged, but only a small percentage of their parents apply for compensation. These few parents see only one of their children in four awarded a federal compensation.
Three vaccine manufacturers have recently been found by the FDA to be in violation of sterility, testing and documentation requirements. Scientific studies confirm that commercial vaccines often contain pathogenic animal and human viruses, bacteria and mycoplasma, which escape the filtering process during manufacture.1 Some of these pathogens take years to become obvious. The deadly monkey virus SV-40 contaminated early polio vaccines. Now SV-40 is being found in human bone and brain cancers and in Hodgkin's lymphomas.
Cancer researchers say that the synthetic vitamin K shot routinely given to newborns may significantly increase the risk of childhood cancer. Only 1 in 10,000 babies are at risk of vitamin K deficiency.
The genetically engineered hepatitis B vaccine given to newborns and toddlers is very dangerous. According to the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS), the risk of a serious reaction may be 100 times greater than the risk of the disease itself. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) produced an internal memo suggesting a "possible association between the vaccine and multiple sclerosis." AAPS calls for a moratorium on hepatitis B vaccination, pending proper clinical studies. 2
The MMR vaccine, given to children at age 18 months, is derived from aborted fetal cells. It is now definitively linked to America's explosive epidemic of autism by researchers at Utah State University. 3 Autism is a devastating condition involving brain damage, severe abdominal cramping and hyperactivity. During the 2001 congressional autism hearings, Congressman Dan Burton condemned U.S. health agencies for not withdrawing MMR vaccine from the market.
AAPS says these dangerous vaccines continue to be slapped into our kids because committee members recommending these vaccines have "incestuous ties with agencies that stand to gain power, or manufacturers that stand to gain enormous profits, from the policy that is made." Furthermore, states have been given a $100 federal bounty for each fully vaccinated two-year old child.
Vaccines often prove INEFFECTIVE in preventing disease. During North Idaho's 1997 whooping cough epidemic, 81.5 percent of sick children had all four of their DPT vaccinations. The CDC recently reported that 23 children in daycare --previously vaccinated against varicella-- contracted chicken pox anyway. Measles epidemics among measles-vaccinated kids are very common. And kids vaccinated for measles can later develop atypical measles with serious complications.
Neither vaccine profiteers nor government agencies have EVER conducted long-term studies on genetic damage and the probable cancer-causing effects of vaccines. Vaccine makers have no incentive to conduct expensive clinical control studies on vaccine safety since federal law protects them from liability if a child is severely injured or killed by a vaccine. Private insurance companies won't touch vaccine damage.
Idaho Statute 39-4804 states that before your child is vaccinated you must be informed that vaccinations are NOT MANDATORY and MAY BE REFUSED on medical, religious or philosophical grounds. The law also says you are entitled to an accurate explanation of the many complications known to follow vaccinations. Washington state law also allows for medical, religious and philosophical exemptions from vaccination (RCW28A.210.090).

Children that are not vaccinated are very healthy, if not healthier than vaccinated children.
The website is www.vaclib.com and it is stated there.
Answer: I remember once seeing a program encouraging people to vaccinate themselves for different "bugs" in a one-shot only dose. One of the people interviewed stated with a smile:
"you see I feel fine after receiving this shot ! It doesn't hurt and I am protected."
What does one say to such a person who is not, obviously, thinking long-term and who has not got a clue that there is a limit to what the immunity system can tolerate?
If you recall the strange case of a significant number of American soldiers returning from the First Iraq conflict, all healthy before going to War, but afflicted by many debilitating symptoms, then you should think about the fact they were all vaccinated against everything under the Sun ! I don't think it is a coincidence these Men got ill - many are still ill.
On a personal note, I knew a Healthy Lady, in her Golden years, who never had flu shots before in her Life, but died after receiving one. She had not be known to be allergic to anything, but...
I never vaccinated my last Child, except for Polio and BCG; she has NEVER taken an antibiotic. Of course, she was and is always treated with great care by Medical Practitioners, well-trained and experienced in other forms of treatment than antibiotics. I can say the same for my other Children, all-grown up now.
Two of my older Children had a very bad reaction to the Measles vaccine and had 4 unforgettable days and night of fever. I wasn't so ill when I got Measles at age 12. I remember jumping on my bed in my darkened room (my Parents were told light could cause blindness !) . It was not a big deal Measles for me. However, it can be dangerous for a few. It is always dangerous for the few - it is a Law of survival after all, that the weak does not make it. My decision not to vaccinate stems from my belief that my Children are strong and, should they get ill, can be made better. It was never about sacrificing my Children for the sake of the very few.
Polio is a serious affliction, yet I know People who have recovered from it, but, at the time, I chose to vaccinate against it because of its contagious nature and serious consequences. However, one my Children fell ill a week afterwards and ended up in Hospital: his appendix needed to be removed. His dose was the last in the vial - to some, that's signifies...apparently remnants of mercury ?
It seems, in our Family, that each time, we have anything to do with Hospital procedures and medical interferences, we get more ill. Perhaps, we are healthy precisely because we stay as far away as possible, from all that hype !
I cannot, unfortunately, remember the name of a French or Swiss French Doctor/scientist, who first spoke out against this craze for vaccines, making the point that it would take away something, not only from the general workings of one's Immune System, but also make people "stupid" and lame, thereby affecting their very character. Looking at how our society is unable to discern what is the difference between preventive Health and continual poisoning, I think he was right.
Tragically, today, the Womb and and its Fruits are being sacrificed for the well-being of Babylon.
Question: A good friend of mine just told me her daughter was cured of leukemia? This is not a joke question. Her daughter has been battling with cancer for some time. She received a lab result that basically had them back to the cancer center ready to start chemo. They fasted 24 hours her husband is a priest and gave the child a blessing. The bone marrow biopsy the next day was negative for cancer. She is not making this up. She was crying as she told me the story. They happen to be mormon. I pick on all religions equally and she knows I am an atheist. She told me I had to believe. No she was not hostile or going around trying to convert people. She genuinely believed that Jesus cured her child. Her statement to me was that you might say viral infection or that the initial test was wrong. Instead I say I don't know.
When I say I don't know I mean exactly that. Simply because I don't know why the initial lab said what it did does not imply a magical or miracle cure. Why are there rainbows? Only with advances in physics did we come to know the origin of rainbows.
My question is do you believe this was a miracle healing?
1) she genuinely believes it was
2) no concrete theory has been advanced to my knowledge to explain things, it could have been a virus or a lab error but I cannot say that for certain
midnight thanks for the anecdote. It seems we do get the opposite occuring but it never seems to make the headlines.
Answer: Before you waste your time looking up the new york times and msnbc links, ask yourself when these entities were anything but antagonistic to Christianity.
Some believers say it is pointless to try to divine the workings of God with experiments devised by mortals. I agree. The disciples asked why their prayers weren't answered. The reply was that they lacked the foundation of faith to support their prayers. The "study" mentioned above (both links refer to the same information) documents prayer for statistical purposes, not prayer by faith. As a result, it would naturally fall flat.
The word of God from Malachi 3:10 shows tithing to be the only thing you can expect God to be willing to prove Himself through.
About 20 years ago, a man from my church was also cured of leukemia during a prayer service. The last pastor we had was given six months to live due to a brain tumor which mysteriously disappeared at a Church of God camp meeting - that was 30 years ago, and he's still living with no sign of cancer. Our current pastor had lifelong debilitating back problems until he took a week to pray and fast. I've seen healings too many times of problems too physically evident to be bad doctor prognosis's of the problems.
In contrast to the bad example of "prayer testing" cited above, we also have:
San Francisco cardiologist Randolph Byrd, conducted an experiment in which he asked born-again Christians to pray for 192 people hospitalized for heart problems, comparing them with 201 not targeted for prayer. No one knew which group they were in. He reported in 1988 that those who were prayed for needed fewer drugs and less help breathing.
William S. Harris of St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., and colleagues published similar results in 1999 from a study involving nearly 1,000 heart patients, about half of whom were prayed for without their knowledge.
Why are there rainbows? Prismatic diffraction of light.
Why are there miracles? God is good. This incident may be him reaching out to you.
Edit: Regarding Val's marketing link...my father was a heavy follower of alternative medicine philosophies. Alternative medicine, like mainstream medicine, is also a multibillion dollar industry. However, alternative medicines didn't stop him from getting Alzheimer's or stop his appendix from rupturing. Plus, on a personal level, any place like AHS which posts advertisements with pricing like this
"Retail Price $88.95
Member Price $12.00" and product names like "No Fool I"
(page 15 in the above link)
seems to be preying upon the gullibility of potential customers.
Chocko's point A is hopeless, as he misses the point that disease and decay are the natural order of things, not a matter of God messing around playing "good cop, bad cop."
Question: I have a lump on my left Ankle?? HELP!? I have this soft lump on top of my ankle bone, It's been there for over 3.5 months.
I does not hurt nor does it look to be getting any bigger.
The size is just a little bigger then the bone itself.
It's right on top of the left ankle bone, It's under the skin, It's a bused red color and covers the whole bone.
Last year I had a hard lump on my back
(about the size of a golf ball) that the doctors thought was a sarcoma (cancer), The doctors sent me to Hollins Cancer Center in Charleston, South Carolina, to be tested and treated... after two test it came back not to be cancer. and was removed 2-week later..
I've not hurt my ankle in anyway before seeing the lump.
I'm a 19-year old male that does not drink or smoke and has good health.
Any help would be great!
Thanks to everyone.

Answer: 3.5 months?? make an appointment with your doctor.
Question: pain that starts in the chest and moves around body? hello everyone.im a 39 year old man, smoker,i dont drink or do any kind of drugs besides the pantoprazole for acid reflux.my problem about 5 months ago i got this crushing pain in the center of my chest.when that went away it left me with this pain that moves all around my chest and stomach area.i went to the emergency room about 2 weeks after because the pain was in my lower back so bad i couldnt hardly walk.it has even hit me in the left testicle.the doc told me that they couldnt find anything wrong but a viral infection and a little broncitis.i went to see my doctor a couple of weeks ago and he didnt seem too concerned,of course i wasnt hurting then.i was helping a friend move a refrigerator today and i had a pain hit me up under my breatbone dead center.what im scared of is cancer.i was reading that this could have something to do with the pantoprazole.the pain is not in my left side feels like its more in the bone and in the spleen area.im just wanting some answers.
Answer: Seems like they should have done some tests on you. Based on what you said you should see your doctor again and suggest a bone density check for osteoporosis, a thorough chest x-ray, an electrocardiogram under stress and any other thing that might result from your discussion with your doctor. I wouldn't let this thing ride. You should be firm with your doctor that you want the problem resolved.
Question: Lump on the back of my head? Ok. So I have 2 lumps on the back of my head.
One is where that bone is to make it a lump. Like one side is a little larger. And the other one is at the very bottom back of my head DIRECTLY under that bony lump that is normal in peoples heads in the center. I can not move either of them but they are kinda soft. Like I can squish the smaller one down. But the other one I can't.
I'm really afarid this is cancer or something please help.
[ also I have anxiety and I've been getting really abd headaches, Like as soon as a found this lump my headaches started [in my temples[ propbably from worring?]
Also I'm only 15.
And I can't go to the Dr because my mom won't let me. :[
Answer: My sister had the EXACT same thing. Her blood work indicated that everything was normal. So, she went to a dermatologist who said it wasn't skin related and wasn't cancer. They recommended she go to a neurologist to see if she had something going on in her brain. Her brains scans came back normal, as well. As a family, we were really worried about it, but so far, nothing has shown up. She's been getting headaches too.
It's unlikely that you have skin cancer on your scalp. The highest-risk group for melanoma on the scalp is older, bald, white men.
Nevertheless, you should get to a dermatologist and have your scalp examined. It may be cysts and the headaches may be stress-related.
Question: Have you Had a reactivation of Epstein Barr? 5 years ago i suffered one of the worst cases of mononucleosis my Doctor had ever seen. Swollen neck/lymph nodes, terribly sore throat that required ice packs, chills and high fever. I was better in about a month and resumed normal activities.
1 month ago (October 24th) I started feeling a pulling in my neck, like a tight muscle, over time this grew into a full on stiff neck with swollen lymph nodes from behind my ears to the back of my head to my collar bone. hey are palpable under the skin in places, soft, movable, but definitely swollen and my neck feels tight in the muscles. I went to the doctor and he said I had an ear infection and put me on Amoxicillan.
A week and a half later I was no better and went to the ER and they told me i had a virus, sending me home with Augmentin, claiming I should let it run it's course.
I went to the internet for research and while I don't believe i had mono again because reactivation of it is so very rare, plus, I don't have a fever or a sore throat- just these swollen nodes and pain in my neck. I went back to the doctor and asked to be tested for Epstein Barr Virus.
I got a call the following week and the nurse said "You Labs are back and consistent with reactivated Mono. Get lots of rest." I had questions such as why it would reactivate with fewer symptoms, and how long i could expect these swollen nodes and neck pain to remain since it had already been a month... they didn't have the time for me.
My EBV test reads as follows
Clinical Situation IgG-VCA EBNA EA IgM-VCA
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No past infection - - - -
Acute Infection + - + +
Convalescent Phase + + +/- +/-
Past Infection + + - -
Chronic of reactivated
Infection + + - -
My epstein Barr Panel showed two High Counts.
EBV (VCA) Ab, IgG 936
EBV Nuclear Ab, IgG 243
Now, given that it is rare for people to get mono twice, and if they do it is usually WITHOUT symptoms or due to a suppressed immunity (Like Lupus or Arthritis) I went searching further for answers.
Because i have had a small rash on my chest at the center of my breastbone that is occasionally itchy, as well as what had been diagnosed as dermatitis around my scalp and upper back- My symptoms seem to correlate with the dreaded word no one wants to hear: Lymphoma. It also seem EBV has a direct link to some Lymphomas.
I called back my doctor and demanded a referral to an ENT and a CT scan of my neck- I've had chest X-rays previously due to a light persistent cough and they are normal.
I'd like to ask Anyone who suffers from long term EBV effects if they experience swollen nodes and stiff neck for more than a month years after initial mono infection. Am i putting the car before the horse or being logical here. The concept of cancer frightens me to death, though there is no Lymphoma in my family.
Do you EBV sufferers feel the same way? Do you have chronic swollen nodes and a stiff neck for more than 4 weeks at a time without other traditional mono symptoms?
Answer: Hi Phaylen. I am NOT an expert in Epstein Barr infections. However, I have a substantial interest in the role nutrition plays in the functioning of the immune system - which can play a significant role in controlling Epstein Barr infections and risk for various cancers.
What I am offering here is merely conjecture - an educated hypothesis. There is very little specific scientific research in the area of Epstein Barr virus infections and nutritional status. What research is available suggests the following possibilities:
1) Vitamin D deficiency is very common (an epidemic) and its effects on the immune system can impair the system's ability to fight viral infections such as Epstein Barr virus (EBV). Have your doctors tested your blood levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D? This is the proper test for Vitamin D status. You want a number in the "high-normal" range to be healthy.
2) Zinc status is a major player in immune system health. Low zinc intakes from normal diets are very common. Even marginally inadequate intakes of zinc can impair immune function and limit the immune system's ability to contain a viral infection. Again, have your doctors tested your zinc status? Have they measured ANYTHING about your overall nutritional status?
Below are a few links to scientific papers that support the comments I have made here.
Best wishes and good luck.
I have added a couple of additional papers on zinc. They are fairly technical but, they provide a solid scientific basis for the potential relationship between your zinc status, immune function, and risk of viral infection and cancer.
Question: What next, please help me find an answer? I am a ten year breast cancer survivor; stage I, 1.7cm, no lymph node involvement, estrogen positive to me; I had as treatment 17 CMF chemotherapy, 45 Neupogen shots, 30 radiation treatments and a quadrantectomy. My balance seemed to be off during my second chemo treatment. I told my doctor, I fell often. And in 2001 I fell down stairs, broke a tib/fib, titanium rods implanted and ended up with DVT. I have been walking with a cane since then.Last year was treated for an ear infection, serous otitis media, At the emergency room the doctor said I had bubbles on my eardrum. I was admitted to the hospital, and isolated. One doctor came in and said I had MRSA. I didn't know what that was. I was treated with many antibiotics and the only one that worked was oxacillin. I was discharged after three days. Afterwards, everything changed. I had two failed 17 year old root canals, numerous antibiotics, kidney stone, more antibiotics, ear doctor treated with more antibiotics, saw a neurologist, said I have cerebellar ataxia. Another said I didn';t. One neurologist said I had fear of falling. One said it was peripheral neuropathy. One said it was PTSD. I was thankful last year to hear that I did not have a neuro-degenerative disease. I left the state to celebrate, with my walker, my cane and a change of clothes. The third day, I fell off a foot high porch and broke the calcaneous bone and did a 2+ sprain on the left ankle. I returned back to my home with the goal of relearning to walk. However, I again became more imbalanced, my right eye started twitching and wouldn't stop. The eye doctor today tells me it is convergence. The eye doctor last year, told me nystagmus. I call it my scarry eye and continue to do vestibular therapy. Two months ago, I went on another journey to try and save my life and the quality of my life. A neurosurgeon told me, I have never seen that part of the brain completely gone. You need to go to a stroke center. Another doctor told me I might have a connective tissue disease. I tested positive for anti nuclear AB. Yes, I do have arthiritis. If I have something else I don't know. Last month I made an appt. with a gastroenterologist, because of unusual bloating and unable to urinate completely. No pain at this point. A week later I end up in the Emergency Room: told you have a 2mm kidney stone; it is in the ureter and should pass into the bladder, you should see a doctor in three days. I saw a urologist, CT scan of abdomen and pelvis. He said maybe you will pass it, if not we will do a lithotripsy and place a stent. By the end of the week I ended up in the ER again. I was admitted. The 2 mm stone now was 5.8 mm and in the ureter. I was given pain meds and stayed in the hospital so my 80 year old mother didn't have to witness me birthing a stone, Everrbody said it was nothing. I tell you it was painful. Before I was discharged from the hospital, the doctor told me a CT scan revealed it was in my bladder. That all should be okay. I have strained urine, looking for a stone, The urologist says the stone is still in the ureter, and the radiologist read the report wrong. Today, a doctor says, good news, no blood in the urine, Today, I still have problems with bloating and voiding fully. I already have problems with vestibular dysfunction and I believe that this is compromising my life. Symptoms: can't walk or stand for very long, can't walk forward without holding on. I do well in a swimming pool but sometimes, even it can be difficult. Is it the ear? IS it another disease? I am exhausted and need help? My eyes have a hard time focussing. I try to exercise, stationary bike and swimming every other day. I used to be a very active person who helped others. Please, someone help me. It is difficult being in this body.Every day I don't know what it will be like when I get up, good or bad, confident or fright.
Answer: I have a bad back too.
