Question: What are the early symptoms of bone cancer ? I think my friend's 5 yr old may have lukemia, what are the early signs?
Answer: Symptoms
Pain is the most common bone cancer symptom. Although bone cancer can arise in any of your bones, it most frequently occurs in the long bones of your arms and legs.
Other possible symptoms and signs of bone cancer include:
Weakened bones, sometimes leading to fractures
Joint swelling and tenderness (for tumors in or near joints)
Fatigue
Fever
Unintended weight loss
Anemia

Answer: If you've had it for almost a yaer, I doubt it's bone cancer. Go to the doctor and get it checnked out.
But you asked for bone cancer symptoms, so I'll give them to you.

The most common symptom of bone tumors is pain. In most cases, the symptoms become gradually more severe with time. Initially, the pain may only be present either at night or with activity. Depending on the growth of the tumor, those affected may have symptoms for weeks, months, or years before seeking medical advice. In some cases, a mass or lump may be felt either on the bone or in the tissues surrounding the bone. This is most common with MFH or fibrosarcoma but can occur with other bone tumors. The bones can become weakened by the tumor and lead to a fracture after little or no trauma or just from standing on the affected bone. Fever, chills, night sweats, and weight loss can occur but are less common. These symptoms are more common after spread of the tumor to other tissues in the body.
Question: bone cancer symptoms? can a bone tumor in a specific bone spread to other bones? like in ankle, knee, rib and back? how often does pain comes in early stages? how long does pain often last in early stages? is having rib pain suddenly and during running that does not last long a symptom of bone cancer? thx...
Answer: Bone tumor is an inexact term, which can be used for both benign and malignant abnormal growths found in bone, but is most commonly used for primary tumors of bone, such as osteosarcoma.
Bone tumors may be classified as "primary tumors" which originate in the bone, and "secondary tumors" which originate elsewhere.
Coming to the point, Tumors which originate in the soft tissues such as different organs in the body may also secondarily involve bones through direct invasion. Like that it is possible for bone tumors to be "metastatic" which means yes bone tumors can spread not only from one bone to another bone but also to other organs particularly breats in females and prostate in males. But whether a bone tumor spreads or not depends on its different classes. The more dangerous ones called malignancy spreads.
The most common symptom of bone tumors is pain, but many patients will not experience any symptoms, except for a painless mass. Some bone tumors may weaken the structure of the bone, causing pathologic fractures.
As you see pain is a very vague term. You can not make a pin point diagnosis with the term pain, radiography would verify the presence of such a tumour.
But pain during running is certainly not a symptom of bone tumor. Rib pain is a common symptom that occurs during fitness activities such as running, jogging and other cardiovascular exercises. Athletes refer to this rib pain as a side stitch. The constant overstretching of the ligaments during running will cause the rib pain, not a bone caner.

Question: Is there a link between Anklosing Spondylitis and Cancer? Can the symptoms for AS be similar to bone cancer? A close friend is waiting on results of an MRI scan which is going to take a long time, and although doctors believe she has spondylitis (not full blown ankylosing spondylitis, an offshoot of it) I think she is worried it may be bone cancer...
Can anyone tell me if these 2 illnesses are obviously different or if the doctors are perhaps predicting the lesser of 2 evils so as not to worry her in the meantime?
Answer: Although they sound similar, they are different. Spondylitis indicates inflammation of the vertebrae. It is a term relating to "wear and tear" and is more common in older people. Ankylosing means fusing together and relates to an inflammatory condition which produces new bone and leads to fusion. The vigorous exercise therapy designed for people with AS might be harmful to those suffering from spondylosis. There is no proven link between cancer and AS. I add a link with a brief detail of this.
With regard to your statement that the results of the MRI will take a long time, there is no valid reason for the delay except an administrative one. For example, the diagnosing radiologist being unavailable. Which begs the question, what happens to the diagnosis and report in an emergency MRI?

Question: Bone cancer symptoms and testing? Please advise.
Someone in my family has been diagnosed with Leukemia, 3 years ago. She has undergone chemo and is now ok (thank God!). But, starting abt 4-6 months ago, she started to experience sharp, almost constant pain in what seems to be the leg and hip bones. She also says she feels 1000 needles in her heels/soles.
Now the doctor didn't allow any x-ray or CAT scan (for fear of radiation exposure). Her osteoporosis test from a year ago was fine.
What could this be? I'm worried about bone cancer..since I've heard sometime chemo for one can cause another:(
Answer: Ask for a bone scan. My husband's melanoma spread to his lumbar region. He kept complaining about hip and leg pain and the doctor blew it off. I kept asking if the cancer could have spread to the bones so to pacify me he ordered an X Ray. I'm not an idiot - I knew cancer wouldn't show in the X Ray. Later when a Pet scan showed the cancer had spread to his lungs, liver and lumbar I was furious. We changed doctors and when we explained everything the first thing the other doctor asked was, "Why wasn't a bone scan done?".
Chemo didn't cause his cancer in the lumbar and later actually cleared it up. What can happen, however, is chemo can weaken other parts of the body. I am not sure but I do think the radiation my dad had for his prostate cancer affected his spine.
I wish your friend good luck. Insist they don't just ignore her pain.
Question: Please can you tell me the symptoms of bone cancer of ribs and back?
Answer: I had general chest pain, thought I might have pulled a muscle or maybe even had pneumonia. Then I went to grab something from a cupboard above my head and felt my ribs break.
I guess it's a constant ache somewhere between dull and throbbing if that makes any sense.
With my spine, it's more nerve pain and general tingling/numbness.
It'd probably change person to person.

Question: What is the prognosis for bone cancer? How fast does it spread? Where does it usually spread first? How long does it take to see symptoms after getting the cancer? What is the usual mortality rate after diagnosis? My brother in law just told the family he has bone cancer and has weeks to live he won't tell much more won't tell anything more. Thank you to anyone who can help me to understand this apparently virulent cancer.
Answer: There is not pat answer. The actual cell that became cancerous plays a role as well as the type of defects in the cell that cause the cancer.
The type of defects affect things like how fast the cell divides, and the cell type may indicate how well chemotherapy will work. Cells that are hard to kill, like lung cells, make for bad cancers.
Question: What is secondary bone cancer? Who gets secondary bone cancer?
What causes secondary bone cancer? Is it genetic or environmental?
What are the symptoms of secondary bone cancer? How does it impact the body?
Can secondary bone cancer be prevented, treated, or cured? How?
Answer: Secondary cancer is when the primary cancer spreads and begins to grow in another organ or tissue. For example if someone has lung cancer (the primary cancer) and it spreads to the bone that would be considered secondary or metastatic.
Most cancers have the potential to metastasize. Once this happens it is very rare to cure and is difficult to treat. The management is usually palliative at this point, meaning procedures are only done for pain control and not for a cure.

Question: bone cancer.........? so my dad was just diagnosed with bone cancer and i was wondering if it can be passed down? and what are the symptoms? im 16 year old female if that helps
my dad had hodgkins non lymphoma b4 he got bone cancer....is hodgkins non lymphoma genetic?
Answer: Not normally considered an inherited cancer.
If bone cancer was his primary cancer (hadn't spread from some other cancer) then this is quite uncommon and you shouldn't be too concerned.
Question: cancer symptoms help? Ok well im not trying to say i have cancer or anything i just wanna know what the symptoms are
what are the symptoms for leukemia and bone cancer?
i have been really tired latley and i have not been acting my self these past days..
and i have a really bad pain in my knee i always had this pain in my leg i fell on it when i was about 12 or 13
Answer: They symptoms for leukemia are actually somewhat vague and general, as in they could be associated with a number of other conditions too. Generally the symptoms are fatigue, malaise (generally being unwell), abnormal bleeding, bruising easily, weightloss, weakness, bone or joint pains, fevers and infections, abdominal pain or fullness and enlarged lymph nodes.
For bone cancer you may feel a mass growing in the affected areas and some of the other symptoms are fevers, chillsm night sweats and weight loss
Your tiredness may be caused by aneamia or a number of other things, so you need to go to see your doctor to be test for this
All the best
Question: Bone cancer how can you know? Whats the difference between a cancerous and a non cancerous tumor on the bone besides the cancer. Like i mean as in symptoms.. And do you have to have cancer some where eles to have bone cancer Develop? Please anything will help.
Answer: i have osteosarcoma which is a kind of bone cancer but there are other types (eg ewing's sarcoma).symptom wise i just had a pain in my knee. i thought i'd just injured it at first and was given stretches to do. it got worse not better (actually felt worst at night). eventually the tumour weakened the surrounding bones and my leg broke when i was walking.
i am not sure if a non cancerous tumour would feel different. i had swelling in my knee but like i said i really thought i'd just injured it.
no you dont have to have cancer somewhere else for it to develop in your bones. i have primary bone cancer (ie that is the place mine started) which has spread to other organs and bones. but it doesn't always spread. but it is likewise true that a person could have a different cancer which has metastasied to bone. like breast cancer for example might start in someone's breast and then spread to bones.
hope this helps. i hope your tumour isnt cancerous. feel free to email if i can help more.
Question: Is a bone scan advised with my symptoms? Had prostatectomy 2 years ago. All PSA's since then < 0.1 inlcuding the one in Feb 07. Have had mild, dull hip pain for last 4 weeks (right side only). Only hurts when sitting. Have a new bicycle with narrow seat. Pain worse after riding so I quit riding. My doctor (GP) did a quick exam and is sending me for bone scan, supposedly suspecting a hairline crack in hip bone. Do the symptoms fit this preliminary diagnosis? By the way, had MRI bone scan before surgery in 2005 which was negative for bone cancer. Should I go ahead with the bone scan for the value of it finding other things?
Answer: it's quite unlikely that you have bone mets from your prostate CA. it's much more likely that your musculoskeletal pain is just a strained muscle from riding the bike. unfortunately, in today's medico-legal climate, most doctors need to be overly cautious and i don't blame your doc for ordering the scan to r/o bone mets.
if he was looking for a hairline fracture, he wouldn't order a bone scan- just plain films would do.
Question: If you have pain due to bone cancer, does the pain come and go or is it constant or near so? I have had some bone pain and slight swelling at some sites that i fear may be symptoms of . . .
i was wondering what are the symptoms of bone "c word"
my pain and swelling comes and goes.
Answer: It sounds like inflammation. Could it be you have osteo or an arthritic condition? I have lung cancer and my bones became extremely sore, I thought the cancer had metastasized to the bones. I had some tests done, but luckily..(if there is anything lucky about osteo) that is what I have. The chemo I was on munched on my spine and ribs so now have very low bone density.
Bones continually grow, you can help them along with proper treatment. I suggest a bone scan or at least an xray to rule out cancer then get on with fixing yourself before the bones become too out of control.
Question: bone cancer in dogs? can tell me the symptoms of bone cancer in dogs. My large dogs legs have started to shake when standing/walking and someone said that this could be bone cancer. what do you think? he is ten years old.
also i have started to give him glucosamine 500mg does anyone know if one tablet is enough? He weighs 39kilos cheers
Answer: One of my dogs ended up with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) & he was first diagnosed with hip displasia. I had actually taken him to have a hip replacement done at another vet specialist & then I was told a surgery would not help since he had cancer.
Then I wanted another opinion since I had received two different dianosis so I took him to an oncologist vet. He confirmed it was the cancer.
His leg did not shake as you have mentioned. He just didn't want to bare much weight on his leg (hind leg).
The only way to actually determine what the problem is with your dog is to have x-rays done.
Could be your dog just has arthritis & needs an antiflamitory/pain med. His leg may be shaking due to pain, but hopefully not cancer.
Here is a couple sites to give you an idea about bone cancer.
