Bone Cancer Types
Question: what is bone cancer and what are the types?
Answer: I addition to the ones listed above, you can get metatstatic bone cancer. This is when cancer has spread to the bone from a primary site.EX lung, breast are just a few that spread to the bones.
Question: What techniques/strokes would you use to massage a client with bone cancer? I'm a massage therapist student and I need help with a report that I'm doing on bone cancer. I need to know what techniques/strokes or even what type of massage you would do for a client with bone cancer. I need to have a detailed session written out, but I don't know what to put. Help, please?!
Answer: Something that I learned in massage therapy school is that chemotherapy treatment really weakens the bones so especially if your client is undergoing chemo I would do a very gentle massage. Of course contact with the physician is a must before any treatment with this client and ongoing conversations are necessary.
After looking at a few different bone cancer websites (google massage therapy and bone cancer) it seems that a lot of the massage that is used for bone cancer patients is to relieve the pain that they are experiencing and to help them relax...If I had a bone cancer patient our first session would include a great deal of conversations so that I could become more familiar with who they are and what their needs are. The first session might be half talk half massage, we would end the session with an evaluation of how the person is feeling and devise a plan for future sessions. Each additional session would still include talking but much less and more massage. I would stick to gentle, swedish type strokes.
I would also only use organic ingredients with this client (as I do with all my clients), they do not need any extra stuff to combat!
Have fun.

Question: What is the life expectancy if a person found out to have a cancer of the bone marrow or plasma cells? If at the age 45years old and a person had these type of cancer of the plasma, which are formed in the bone marrow, so what is the life expectancy in months or in years according statistics will the patiant still live longer than 20yrs? Is it one of the deadliest cancer? Do we really have a new medicine for these? How much does it cost or can we have for free? Out of 10,000 patients how many have this type of cancer? Thank you so much. GOD BLESS YOU.
Answer: Well It is with great pleasure that in September of this year I will celebrate my 19th year cured from acute biphenotypic leukemia, meaning i had both acute myelogenous and acute lymphocytic leukemias combined. This was all due to an unrelated bone marrow transplant. In 1990 when I had my transplant my chances of survivng were less than 7 percent. I know things have improved enormously since then but I dont believe that medicine alone can determine ones chances of survivng. One really must believe that the possibilty of surviving exists and keep focused. I know there were people in the hospital at the same time as I was who had alot greater "chances" than I did that didnt survive because the thought of cancer was almost like a death sentence to them. As far as the cost of such, my medical expenses went over the $1 million mark the first year I was sick, I was insured by my job at the time so my medical coverage was the least of my problems. Had I not had insurance I would have never been a candidate for the bone marrow transplnt. Best of luck to you, God Bless. Anjanette
Question: Bone cancer and underbites? I was just told by someone that they somehow found out that their underbite was/is caused by bone cancer.....now, i hate to sound mean but something makes me think this person is lieing.....if you knew the person you would understand... but anyways, my question is, is has anyone else ever heard of this? And if so, what type of bone cancer is it? I was told there was a few different types of bone cancer.
yes this person looks fine, adds new picture online every few days and looks very healthy...
they have had the underbite since they were born...
Answer: How long have they had the under-bite? If it just developed, then it could be caused by bone cancer, but that would also mean their skull or mandibular bone was involved. There would be obvious changes to their appearance and general health. Are they on chemotherapy or radiation?
If the person appears otherwise healthy and is not receiving medical treatment, then their statement is indeed suspicious.
Question: Bone Cancer - has anybody suffered or known somebody who has? A good friend aged 30 has been diagnosed with this - severity not yet known but he will have chemo at least - anybody else experienced this type of cancer?
Answer: I have what you would call bone cancer.
I'm not sure what your question is but I can tell you a little about it.
It started with stage three breast cancer and the cancer spread to the bone in my shoulder ( stage four met )
There are many things these days that the ONC can do to help your friend. Most the time they do a bio on the bone to find out more info than they treat with chemo or rads.
Tell your friend to do all the research they can and find out as much as possible. Having cancer reach the bone is very serious !! I had one ONC doctor that wasnt doing all he could do and I went and changed doctors.
I have been told that since the cancer spread to the shoulder without remission I only have about 5-7 years to live. However with the treatment they have these days remission isnt as hard as it was before
Question: how can someone get bone cancer in a mountain range? well 3 days ago i got a call saying that my aunt got very ill when she was visiting some mountains, she was so ill that her husband was force to put her in the closest hospital cause they were 40 minutes from their home, then the doctors did some examinations and said that theirs a possibility that she could have somehow be suffering from bone cancer.
thats all i know, don't know what type of bone cancer or wat stage is it on or in wat part of the body. she is an elementary teacher in her mid 40's, is this deadly? is their any special type of treatment for this?
Answer: as for bone, i am not really quite sure about this.
However from what i notice is that, i believe all cancer is treated is chemo, and my mum is diagnose with lung cancer, is currently also having chemo. So far, from what i believe, Chemo is the only way to cure or surpress these cancer cells. Of course, the side-effect is very serious, cause it even kills off all the good cells in your body.
As for your aunt, ask her to consult a doctor asap, wait for the biopsy report, and the treatments that is provided by the doctor. As far as i heard or seen from myself, if doctor have any special treatment given, try it, it may give you at least hope. As far as my mum is concern, there is no medicine to totally cure cancer, so, it is best to try the treatment which the doctor suggest, and make her happy, encourage her..
Question: My doctor suspected me to have a myeoloma a certain kind of bone cancer. Still undergoing my physical therapy? The doctor diagnosed and suspected that I have a bacteria on my bone while I was still young and now maybe this myeoloma or some type of bone cancer. So they open my back (spinal cord) to take some bone sample from my spinal cord and two days after the operation they took bone marrow sample from my chest without any anesticia (soo painful for me to bear that pain). I have gone into different kinds of modern medical equipements maybe about six to seven of those modern medical equipements. The doctor rest assured me that I must not get worry because they are going to do their best and besides that there is already new medicine for this type of myeoloma. After the operation I was totally paralized from my chest down to my feet. Do you think I can still recover to my normal physical condition. Can I file a case in court to get some physical, financial, lost of income, moral and other damages. Please help mee!! Thanks sooo muuch. "Good Luck and God Bless You"
Answer: First of all, myeloma is not a bone cancer it is a cancer of the plasma cells, which are formed in the bone marrow.
Second, it is very unusual to do a bone marrow biopsy from the chest.
Third, who do you want to sue and why? It is no one’s fault you have cancer.
Question: What type of test is done to check for cancer any kind of cancer....? What type of test is done to check for cancer any kind of cancer.... I know about breast cancer tests, but what about other cancer, like bone cancer, lung cancer, or other types?
Thank you ahead of time.
Answer: In leukemia they can initially diagnose this through a CBC and then conclusively through a bone marrow test . In liver cancer I think they have to do a liver biopsy, and other cancers they have to do biopsies as well. I know about leukemia because I was diagnosed almost 1 year ago with this.
Question: what is stage 2 bone cancer? Some one I love was recenly diagnosed in "Stage 2 of Bone Cancer. Can someone help me with the understanding of this particular type of Cancer?
Answer: Spreedog either really was a heme-onc, or he is very good at playing one on Yahoo :) I would bet heavily on the former. I agree that your question is way too vague to be answered accurately. You'll have to provide more info before anyone can help you with understanding it.
I am sorry that someone you love has cancer, regardless of the type or severity...and wish you and your loved one the best in dealing with it.
Question: my grandma was just told she probably has bone cancer. can anyone tell me what type it could be? She is 85 and for the last year has been complaining of lower leg pain that started out being a numbness and then moved into severe pain. Several months ago she had a CAT scan and the physician said her bones were as healthy as a 25 year olds. Last week she couldn't take the pain any longer. They did an MRI and at three different Campbell's Clinics the radiologists said she probably has bone cancer. Today they are doing some type of blood drawing to know for sure. My question to you guys is what type could this be? and is it a good thing it didn't show up on ct but did on a mri??? thanks all...
Answer: Hello Matt:
I am Carol I have bone cancer and I need a bone marrow transplant to fight the cancer. I have breast cancer that spread to several places and the bone is one of the places. The doctor said that where I have the cancer is where my bones were crushed because of the damage there it made it easier for the cancer to go there.
There are a lot of things they can do about most bone cancer if it is in just the limbs like amputate. but when it is in the spine they only have
one choice bone marrow. And when your AB negative blood type to start with it makes it even harder to get a donner for bone.
What I don't understand is why did you say it is a good thing it did not show up one the ct scan but on the mri. The sooner it shows up the sooner you get treated. and if caught in time they can treat it with radiation than chemo and be ok with out cutting off body parts.
And at 85 it will be real hard on her no mater what happens.
So help her and be with her as much as you can. The Love You
show her will go a long ways.
Make a scrap book with her for you to keep to remember your life with her still in it.
God Bless
Carol
Question: I think I have bone cancer? Six days ago, my shoulder blade started hurting. Now, it hurts a lot, especially at night. It's not a muscle pain because it's not in my muscle. When I gently press on my shoulder blade bone it hurts a lot. Just typing this is hurting my shoulder. Do I have bone cancer????
Answer: It's pretty unlikely. Not every bone pain is cancer.
If the pain is severe, see your doctor. YA can't diagnose.
Question: Can frequent ankle or bone related injuries cause cancer? I frequently, almost twice a month have an ankle injury. I play soccer for a local team. the uneven terrain is the culprit. Though i've developed these lifetime injuries due to sprains,we still feel the need to play. I'm asking because one nurse i've conversed with told me that there was an instance, one of their patients developed cancer from ignoring these types of injuries. Please advise me on this matter. thanks!
Answer: There is NO WAY that nurse could know FOR A FACT that cancer in that one patient was caused by injuries.
Can chronic injury cause cancer? No studies have proven this and probably no studies have even looked at this. There is a growing body of medical evidence that suggests that 'chronic inflammation' can play a role in developing some cancers. So, theoretically, there could be a 'connection'. But, I am more concerned about your frequent injuries and the long-term impact they will have on the functioning of your skeletal system than on the risk (if any) for cancer.
Hope this is helpful to you.
Question: Managing pain with Tramadol due to canine bone cancer...? My boy Merlin was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (OSA) in October 2008. The vet said it had already spread and that removing the leg would not help. I started him on Tramadol. He gets 4 (50mg) 3 times a day. He still whines at times and is stiff. His cancer is in his back leg. It started small and now his knee is almost the size of a basketball. He can still get around but seems sad most days. He still eats like a little piggy.I have searched the internet to get any info on what his leg would look like with this type of cancer and what kind of experiences ppl have had with Tramadol and there dog having canine cancer. No luck. I have found info on side effects, dosage in small dogs and amputations. But nothing on what Merlin and I are to expect. If anyone out there can help me. Maybe share you story. I will be forever grateful.
Merlin is a Shep/Lab mix-100 pounds-11 years old ( He's the handsome one sitting on the ground in my profile pic)
Thank you so much!!
Answer: I'm sorry you and Merlin are going through this. Please consider euthanizing him.... he does not deserve to live with unremitting pain. As sad as it is to lose a dog, we as caring owners have a responsibility to see to their comfort.
Question: I need to post a complaint about a hospital/cancer treatment program. Yahoo newsletters, websites, anything? Due to mistreatment and neglect in the best cancer treatment program of the country, my dad passed away. I need to let people know what has gone one in our case so that they think twice before choosing an institution where they will be treated for cancer. More specifically, multiple myeloma, a type of bone marrow cancer.
Answer: I'm so sorry about your Dad. I just lost mine last month of the same thing. He was 81 and developed many complications, as many do. I also know healthcare is not all it's cracked up to be these days. The only thing I can suggest is writing a letter to the editor, but before I did that I would request a copy of his medical records from the hospital he was treated at. Perhaps he also had complications? You can always have a medical lawyer look over the records too. Are you in charge of his estate? If not, your mom or whoever is in charge will have to request the records, as they will have to provide documentation of such. Good luck to you.
Question: Has anyone had bone & lymph node cancer? I had breast cancer coming up 4 years ago. On Wednesday I was diagnosed with cancer in the bones pelvic, spine, & ribs and also have it in the lymph nodes.
I did not ask for the prognosis (afraid to ask).
Has anyone had this type of cancer or know of any good websites I could check out.
thanks in advance
Additional Details
Maybe someone might have read a good book on beating cancer with nutritional foods?
Answer: It doesn’t sound like you have lymphoma or bone cancer. It is far more likely to be metastatic breast cancer. Therefore, everything you have read about breast cancer still applies. You cannot beat cancer with food.
Question: why do people have to donate bone marrow when someone has leukemia? How does that help? I have an understanding that leukemia deals with the overproduction of leukocytes (white blood cells). And yet, what's wrong with that? I think that leukemia is a type of cancer.. so if it is then how does bone marrow stop the cancer? Thanks for considering this question.
Answer: A very good question. A bone marrow transplant doesn't stop the cancer per se, it replaces bone marrow cells damaged by chemotherapy with healthy bone marrow.
The Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center provides an excellent summary on bone marrow transplants. See the site for more information, but here is an explanatory excerpt pertaining directly to your question:
In patients with leukemia, aplastic anemia, and some immune deficiency diseases, the stem cells in the bone marrow malfunction, producing an excessive number of defective or immature blood cells (in the case of leukemia) or low blood cell counts (in the case of aplastic anemia). The immature or defective blood cells interfere with the production of normal blood cells, accumulate in the bloodstream and may invade other tissues.
Large doses of chemotherapy and/or radiation are required to destroy the abnormal stem cells and abnormal blood cells. These therapies, however, not only kill the abnormal cells but can destroy normal cells found in the bone marrow as well. Similarly, aggressive chemotherapy used to treat some lymphomas and other cancers can destroy healthy bone marrow.
A bone marrow transplant enables physicians to treat these diseases with aggressive chemotherapy and/or radiation by allowing replacement of the diseased or damaged bone marrow after the chemotherapy/radiation treatment.
While bone marrow transplants do not provide 100 percent assurance that the disease will not recur, a transplant can increase the likelihood of a cure or at least prolong the period of disease-free survival for many patients.
Hope this helps!
