Brain Cancer Statistics
Question: Have you known anyone with brain cancer? My mom has stage 3 brain cancer, the doctors say 6 months with radiation maybe, other says oh thats just statistics, have you ever known anyone with brain cancer? She has recurring tumors that are cancerous,I should specify.Have you known anyone with this and how long did they live?
Answer: I have taken care of many people with brain cancer. They were all my patients, although I haven't known anyone personally who has been diagnosed. I am very sorry to hear about your mother. You, your mother and your family will be in my prayers.
Unfortunately, every single person is different. There is no way to tell how much time she has left. Her doctors who have her records and radiology reports would have the best inclination. Bottomline, enjoy every single second you have with her.
Best wishes.
Question: someone close to me found out they had cancer.. have you heard any statistics? someone close to me found out recently they had brain cancer but we talk to others what we are hearing is that more and more young people in their late 20's to early 30's are coming in with more severe brain cancers etc. Is this just a rumor or is there something going on that we should know about and watch for? I guess a possible explanation could be earlier diagnosis? I don't know but it's very concerning.
Answer: Its hard to say... as increases in scanning technology have made it easier to detect cancers earlier there is always the possibility that the numbers of a particular cancer were always at the current rate but we were simply unable to detect them.
You also have to deal with the fact that in an increasing population a constant rate of any health issue will appear larger simply because 5% of 1,000,000 is more than 5% of 500,000. Ad to that the increase in the ability of people to access information and one can often create an illusion that a problem is worse than it is.
I've seen no study that brain cancer is alot higher now than 20 years ago.
Question: Are cancer statistics in USA inaccurate? They said that 11,000 people in USA are diagnosed with brain tumors every year. With a population of about 300 million, that gives people a 0.003% chance that they will get a brain tumor each year. So I live in a city with 48,000 people, and 0.003% of that is only about 1.4. So 1 person, in my whole city, of 48,000 will be diagnosed with a brain tumor this year? I find this very hard to believe, I've known at least 3 people in my life that have had brain tumors, including my mother who died of one a few years ago and my best friends mom. So something seems off here, any insight?
Yeah I see more sites reporting that its 21,000. This site below reports 40,000
http://www.revolutionhealth.com/conditions/cancer/brain-cancer/facts-statistics
Im sure the Cancer Society is probably more credible though. Alot of misinformation out there.
Yeah you're right about metastatic or secondary. I didnt take that into account.
Answer: Terrific knowledgeable answer by "Denisedd" below.
Of course no set of statistics is perfect, but U.S. stats should be fairly close.
As for insight, are you certain that your mom and the other 2 people you mention had "primary" brain malignancies?
Many more people in the U.S. - tens of thousands more - die with lung cancers, breast cancers, and other types of malignancies that have spread to the brain. These are not counted in the U.S. stats as primary brain cancers - because they are not.
By the way, the 2008 American Cancer Society statistics estimated 21,810 brain and other primary central nervous system malignancy diagnoses of various types - with 13,070 deaths, so your stats do not jive with the ACS.
Added note - The "many more" people mentioned in the answer above who are said to have been cured or "healed by natural means with the help of diet, naturopathic doctors, or homeopathic doctors" are not recorded in any statistics - so how do we have proof that this occurs? How do we know these people had biopsy proven central nervous system primary malignancies in the first place if they did not see a physician able to make a definitive diagnosis?
This is what is called anecdotal reporting - such as: "I knew a person with brain cancer who was cured with 'snake root' once." If someone has biopsy proof of a specific disease and a scientific study observing positive results or cures with "natural means," we would all like to see the statistical data presented in a peer review situation.
The history of medicine for over 2000 years has been filled with anecdotal reports authoritatively written by self promoters such as Galen and Benjamin Rush. Their infallible cures were not substantiated in scientific randomized trials. They advised such things as "Owl's toe" for malaria or mercuric chloride for everything. They claimed cures without a shred of statistical proof - and subsequent generations of physicians unfortunately took their word for it.
Scientific physicians - in the past 60 years or so - have demanded rigorous statistical proof in carefully designed trials to prove the efficacy of treatments. When necessary, we have looked at panaceas such as apricot pits and shark cartilage to dispel unfounded myths that raise false hopes in desperate people and lead to scams bilking these victims.
Hopefully, more and more people in this era will study, consider, and THINK rather than simply believing in nonsensical treatments that belong in the Middles Ages when there was no real scientific method and no alternative. It takes a great deal of work to study human biochemistry, immunology, pharmacology, and physiology at the molecular level. Many people find it easier to simply believe in "magic" or folk tales.
The first point that the dean of my medical school made to our class was that THINKING is HARD WORK - and FEW PEOPLE make the effort.
Please note that I am not blasting your thinking in asking this good question. I am referring to the answer suggesting that "many more people" with primary brain malignancies are cured with non-surgical, unscientific medicine - and these are unreported because they don't see real medical doctors. There are NO good statistics proving that assertion.
As Denise says below - registrars check all biopsy reports. If there is no recorded pathological diagnosis, the people "healed" with homeopathy do not have proven disease.
Question: Can stem cells help treat Giloma (Brain tumor)? So we just found out yesterday that my future SIL's mother has a brain tumor. My SIL is 7 months pregnant and I am trying to research whether or not her baby's cord blood could help treat her mother's Giloma (brain tumor).
If anyone could leave me some links focusing on the statistics of the effectiveness of stem cell treatment on brain cancer it would be greatly appreciated. Or ANY information will be helpful.
Answer: I really wanted to bank my daughter's cord blood and I did some research while I was pregnant. I found the best company to be "Cord Blood Registry" at http://www.cordblood.com/ I called them a couple times and asked questions and they were extremely helpful and very nice. (Of course they also wanted my business). Unfortunately I just couldn't afford the initial investment but I'll always regret not doing it. I look at as the best medical insurance policy on the market and I wish I could have done that for my daughter.
I know the cord blood can now help with 70 different diseases but I don't know which ones. I would suggest going right to the source and calling the company directly. Or perhaps you could just have your SIL's mother or family ask her oncologist. He/she should know.
I'm so sorry to hear about your new family member's illness. I hope all turns out well for you all. I hope the link helps. If not, there are other company's you could try. Goo luck!
Question: Observational or Experimental study? Statistics? In the study of cell phone use and the risk of brain cancer, the researchers matched each patient of 469 people who have brain cancer with a person of the same sex, age and race (everything else the same) who did not have brain cancer, then asked about their use of cell phones.
Is this observational or experimental?
Answer: Observational because they didn't actually do an experiment on them, they only observed what was already going on without altering anything.
Question: Statistics questions? Wording Bias: Comment on each of the following as a potential sample survey question. Is the question clear? I sit slanted toward a desired response?
a)"some cell phone users have developed brain cancer. Should all cell phones come witha warning label explaining the danger of using cell phones?"
b)"Do you agree that a national system of health insurance should be favored because it would provide health insurancee for everyone and would reduce adminstrative costs?"
c)"In view of escalating enviornmental degradation and incipient resource depletion, would you favor economic incentives for recycling of resource-intensive consumer goods?
The Regan-Carter Election Debate:
Some television stations take quick polls of public opinion by announcing a questin on the air and asking viewers to call one of two telephone numbers to register their opion as "yes" or "No." Telephone companies make available "900"numbers for htis purpose. Dialing a 900 number r
Answer: a) I put this statement with statements such as:
"Some people who breathe develop lung cancer"
well, cell phone use could be linked to brain cancer but at this point so many people use cell phones that it would not be possible to isolate the use of cell phones as primary factor in brain cancer
b) the problem with this statement is that it gives information and pushes the answerer in one direction. by saying no to this question you are saying that you disagree with the possible benefits but does not address any of disadvantaged of a national health insurance program. the question should only be "do you support or not support a national system of health insurance" and then allow for the answerer to explain.
c) similar to part b. the first part of the statement pushes the answerer to say yes. otherwise they are saying that they don't care about the environment... the actual question, support of economic incentives for recycling is a secondary issue.
for the tv question...

Question: please help on this statistics word problem? Comment on each of the following as a potential sample survey question. Is the question clear? is it slanted toward a desired response?
a) “Some cell phone users have developed brain cancer. Should all cell phones come with a warning label explaining the danger of using cell phones?”
b) “Do you agree that a national system of health insurance should be favored because it would provide health insurance for everyone and would reduce administrative costs?”
c) “In view of the negative externalities in parent labor force participation and pediatric evidence associating increased group size with morbidity of children in day care, do you support government subsides for day care programs?”
I am kind of confused here so please help for points?
Answer: A ) The first question points out that there is a potentiality for cell-phone users to develop a very nasty, incurable disease. Only then does it ask if you are in favour of a warning label. Who is going to say no after such an introductory statement ? Of course this is a biassed question.
B ) The wording of this question is essentially asking "are you in favour of universal and cheaper health insurance ?" Who but an idiot would vote against this?
C) This is saying in authoritative and medical language that day-care for children in large groups is bad for their health. Then it says are you in favour of day-care in large groups? So it is pushing people toward an answer of No.
All these questions are biassed. The straightforward question, without any pushing should be something like
A) Should cell-phones come with a warning label......
B ) Do you agree with the provision of national health insurance .......
C ) Do you support government subsidies for day care programs ...
Then people might say what their unbiassed opinion is.
---------------------------------------------
( P. S. This is not a mathematical question. You might get a more expert view in another section, like Sociology, or Psychology)
Question: please help with this word statistics? Comment on each of the following as a potential sample survey question. Is the question clear? is it slanted toward a desired response, why or why not?
a) “Some cell phone users have developed brain cancer.
Answer: a)
The question implies that some developed brain cancer after they started using cell phones. It also implies that cell phones are a cause to brain cancer.
This question should be backed up by some medical evidence that using cell phones cause cancer.
b)
The cost of insurance and benefits is more important than administrative costs of the government. If the administrative costs were reduced rather than the insurance costs (with proper benefits), it would be an advantage to the government, not the insured.
c)
There seems to be no bias because it gives two reasons to support government subsides for day care programs.
(1)Lack of parent labor force participation
(2)pediatric evidence associating increased group size with morbidity of children in daycare.
Question: afraid of cancer? I'm 20 years old.....had severe depression years ago and now i feel unhealthty.....with blurried vision ...headaches......dizziness.....fatigue.....and statistics say brain tumour comes from depression.....today i'm going to doctor....but like all the doctors i went...he will say im ok.....just cause im young......but i'm too afraid of a brain tumour.....then a surgery........then eplepsy........then all my life will be ruined. what do I do?
Answer: Where EXACTLY are these statistics? One in ten people, at any given time, can be suffering from depression. So why aren't there more people with brain tumours to back up your statistics?
Your symptoms could be caused by any number of things. Low blood pressure, you need glasses or another prescription for........how do you know what your doctor will say?
Besides, you know that even if you do have a tumour, your life isn't necessarily 'ruined'. Epilepsy doesn't necessarily follow and even if it does - there's medication to control it. Think positive. ps. I'm glad you are seeing doctor. Let us know how you get on?
Question: Can someone please answer my questions about cancer coming back? My mom had stage one breast cancer eleven years ago. Two or three lymph nodes were involved and she had both breasts removed and underwent chemotherapy. We thought we were out of the water and home free. But other women she has kept in touch with over the years, that went through chemo with her, have cancer coming back. One has already died because it spread to her brain, and the other recently found it was in her bones. These women were already on or past the nine year mark.
What is the statistic that my moms cancer will come back?
What is the chance that I will lose her to cancer.
Opps I ment stage two. Sorry everyone, but all .. well most (O.o) of your feedback has been a real help.
Answer: Population-wide statistics indicate historical outcomes for large groups of patients, but have no bearing on the outcome of an individual patient. So don't focus too much on statistics, when it is the ongoing health status of your Mom which is actually the best predictor of her own future.
While the long term survival rate for stage 1 breast cancer is very high, there will always be some patients who experience recurrence and a small number who eventually die. This is just the sad reality.
The odds are strongly in your mother's favor that she will not have a recurrence, so try not to worry so much.
Question: Where can I find negative Marijuana Statistics? My boyfriend used to be a hard time user and still claims that me (and the government blah blah blah) should be ok with it and legalise it because there has been ZERO evidence EVER of someone getting cancer or dying from the effects of it. He even guarantees that someone may get drunk and walk infront of a car and die, noone stoned would do that because it works differently (I have never used it so I am naive to the effects you may feel while under its influence). Although I have never touched the stuff myself I figure it must be illegal for some reason. Can anyone tell me a website that proves to my boyfriend that marijuana IS linked to brain cells dying, cancer or even lead to death.
Or, is he right in what he says?
Answer: Marijuana does not kill brain cells. The study that stated marijuana killed brain cells is discredited because the monkeys they studied on were essentially being suffocated in smoke. The reason their brain cells died was because they weren't receiving oxygen.
Marijuana has actually been proven to spur new brain cell growth rather than kill brain cells.
There has not been one single case of marijuana being the proven cause of any kind of cancer. However, the Rick Simpson documentary shows that concentrated amounts of THC were beneficial in clearly cancer.
http://www.phoenixtearsmovie.com
There has never been a case of a marijuana overdose, and marijuana is factually less toxic than potatoes and many other foods we consume on a daily basis. There are zero deaths per year from marijuana consumption.
That means that there are more death per year because of caffeine and aspirin than marijuana.
Behaviorally, a person who is drunk from alcohol is most definitely more of a danger to themselves or others. You are aware of yourself and where you are when you are stoned, in contrast, a drunk person can become so very intoxicated that they can't even walk and may behave dangerously out of character.
Question: Statistics: Normal as Approximation to Binomial? I just can't get this to come out right. The answer is 0.2709 according to the back of my book.
In a study of 420,095 cell phone users in Denmark, it was found that 135 developed cancer of the brain or nervous system. Assuming that the use of cell phones has no effect on developing such cancers, there is a 0.00034 probability of a person developing cancer of the brain or nervous system. We therefore expect about 143 cases of such cancer in a group of 420,095 randomly selected people. Estimate the probability of 135 or fewer cases of such cancer in 420,095 people.
I do not use a TI-83/84 calculator so please answer without using one.
0.2514 is the answer I'm getting too, but the book says 0.2709 is the answer which corresponds to a z score of -0.61...
Ah ha! Thanks, this was helpful in allowing me to figure it out. Because it is 135 or less I need to use 135.5 for x and the actual mean of 142.8 for np. Then it comes out to -0.61 as a z score.
Answer: n = 420,095
p = .00034
q = .99966
Z = (135 - 143) / sqrt (npq). Look up probability corresponding to Z.
Question: Why do people want marijuana legalized? I don't understand this at all. Who could want this stuff legalized? Marijuana smokers are 6 times more likely to get lung cancer than tobacco smokers, and marijuana is highly addictive (look at the statistics, more teens are in treatment for marijuana addiction that all other drugs combined). According to studies done by Dr. Gabriel G. Nahas, marijuana can cause irreversible brain damage and destroys brain cells. Why would anyone want this horrible narcotic to be legal?
Answer: first of all, weed is not addictive and when it says 6 times more likely...do you know how rare? blunts have no crap in it like cigs do... and i guess you dont go to parties or clubs at all, cause weed makes everything more different and fun. even though weed kills brain cells we are talking about 10 brains out of trillions... and i hope you know cells reproduce by dividing so no problem eh? i blaze since 8th grade and im a ap student in 10th grade, i wrestle on varsity in 140 weight class...im 2nd string full back and all my friends go to parties to have a fun time and sometimes blaze but not all the time. and just to let you know the teens who are in the treatment things are the loser ones that have nothing to do in their life besides staying inside and smoke 10 blunts a day... those are the kids no one likes...
Question: How many people would spend about 10 minutes to educate themselves? Because the attitude of people compells me to say all this.
I think reading this in 5-7 minutes would be better than listening to the news in a lifteime.Plz don't think I'm a very old person.Just 18.A university student studying English who just cannot sit back and hope.
My question is: what percentage of what I say is acceptable to you?
This article has three parts: 1.Cultural and general info 2.music and 3.political, so plz read it from the top to the bottom.
Hi.I'm Iranian and I live in Iran. When I chat with people from other countries, I understand that they have totally wrong ideas about Iran.I just wrote this article to correct you.
The first thing they accuse our government of, is that they don't let you be free.Actually, Iranians would be some of the most liberal people in the world (liberal meaning not obeying laws that they don't like).Thousands of millions of strict rules in other countries, don't even exist in Iran. Also, you should understand that what may seem so normal to you, may be a nightmare for us and vise versa. That's why you don't understand a few of Iran's laws.In Iran every single house has a sattelite. Sattelite channels had a serious influence on people, they wear very fashionable clothes.Maybe it's a kind of immitation, but still it's got an unique Iranian style. People wear fashionable scarves to make themselves more attractive and most part of their hair is out, also it's a part of our culture.Iran is one of the super-consumers of cosmics! People do whatever they wish to and some of the things they do, don't fit our culture at all, however it's normal in Iran. You really need to pay a visit to Iran and you'll be surprised seeing the difference between what you imagined before and how the real Iran is! It's wonderful. The Iran you know, is related to at least 30 years ago.At present, everything's so great if you don't take unemployment and air pollution into account. So many things have changed so far.I can't even compare Iran with 5 years ago, let alone comparing it with 30 years ago!!!! After all, nearly 65-70% of Iran's population is considered the new generation (The youth) and they've transformed everything.
Some people think women don't have any rights in Iran! What would you tell me if I tell you that women are now overtaking Iran? They're treated very well, most of the times they're the winners in most cases: They get into the best universities. They get the best jobs. They've got rights that have made it difficult for men to marry them, because husbands buy them expensive things and treat them very well, otherwise women will have the right to ask them a great amount of money which most husbands cannot afford. (so, they can simply sit in the corner of prison! lol). The only thing that women are not allowed to do in Iran is getting into public football stadiums and that's just because IN IRAN, such places are usually full of cheeky guys who would cheek girls.I don't think girls would go there, even if they're allowed to do so.As far as I know, not many girls in Iran are interested in football!
Another funny thing: Your footage about stoning the women who have committed adultery.Have you ever asked yourself they relate to how many years ago?Just for your information, those are from Afghanistan which was once ruled by those freaks (Taliban).I find it difficult to make you understand that Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan are SEPERATE COUNTRIES! and that we're Persian and some Turkish not Arab! And I find it even more difficult to make you understand that Iran is a normal country like any other countries in the world. There's nothing mysterious about it!(The media is very good at making scary titles: BEHIND THE CLOSED DOORS!!! IRAN UNDERCOVER!!! This would be enough to scare people away! Iranians are much more educated, intelligent and open-minded than what you think!!! I'm sure you don't know that there are lots and lots of Iranian geniouses and scientists that are all under 25.You don't hear about their discoveries and inventions on TV. A small example is this 17 year old boy who's invented 72 amazing inventions. You don't know that Iranian students and sportsmen are winning gold and silver medals in different compotitions in the world all the time such as robotics, biology, maths, physics, sports, anything! Why don't the media talk about them?Did you know that the countries having the highest number of scientists in the world are in this order? 1-India 2-Korea 3-Iran
A few weeks ago Iran uncovered the most effective anti-H.I.V medicine and now it's signing treaties with other countries to export it.I digged the news on the internet, but there was no single sign of that. What I found instead? "President Bush CLAIMS that bomb parts are imported from Iran into Iraq!" The media are injustice. They'd put CLAIMS on the headlines, but they would never talk about facts! Some interesting facts:
Iran is the pionier in medicine and genetics and Iranian surgens have found lots of new methods for treating spinal defects and many other diseases (mainly the treatment for different types of cancer) and the the best brain and heart surgens are Iranian surgens. The head of Mars Mission in NASA is Iranian. One of the best designer of sports cars working in Germany is Iranian. Some of the best 3D animators are Iranian.Iran is one of the best countries in counter-engineering.Holds the second place in building dams. The 4th highest tower (Milad tower) in the world is in Tehran (which you can visit in the second link). The champion weight-lifter is Iranian. The woman, and a song by one of the pop singers who/which won the nobel peace prize are Iranians. It'd be the only country that has all 4 seasons during the year simoltaneously. It means that while it's winter in one part of it, it may be summer / spring in another part! And as you all know, Iranian girls are famous for being terrific.Persian rug and Persian literature, many Persian poets and scientists that are so famous.Persian culture is now westernised and only a little has survived! According to statistics Tehran is the cheapest capital city in the world for foriegners with Dollars of course not for us! (Cos our rate is different: one Dollar=about 950 Tomans!) Who do you think is building Dubi?Arabs? No my friends, Iranian architectures, engineers and traders funding them, cos they don't think building the same things in Iran would be beneficial for them, Since the media scare tourists away from Iran. There are many other things. And also, Iran is a very independant country. It has nearly all the developed industries and technologies and doesn't need other countries to survive! That's why the unfair U.N sanctions don't bother us! The list is endless.
Some charactristics of Iranians would be: Proud, greedy, hard-working, intelligent, ambitious, not realistic, not so religious, not so generous, not punctual, impatient, well-dressed, formal, well-educated, warm and friendly and hospitable.
Some people think, Iran's a desert! Iran's a modern country with very beautiful nature and lots of historical places to visit. Please take a look at the following links and see if Iran looks like what you think or not! (Surely it doesn't!)

Some people think music is forbidden in Iran.Did you know that Iranian pop music has won the prize in France in 2005? All Iranian songs are current pop /Trance/ DJ music.I send them to my American and Canadian chat friends and they all admit that it's the best music they've ever heard. They specially love the beat.

It's now 2007 and people still think we are uneducated people living in deserts, riding camels and carrying around guns!!!!
See how the media are fooling people? None of the things you hear on the media about Iran are true.If you think I've been admiring Iran too much, that's because you'd do the same thing if you were looked down nearly everyday for some false reasons.
I think it's better to clarify some political issues as well:
Some of the Americans I chatted with, said in the U.S it's said that president Ahmadinejad hates the U.S and Israel and wants to nuke them!! The media are good at putting comments. It's easy to show a video or an image of our president or leader on the T.V screen or on the internet and say he says this, he says that.....I really don't get the point why our politicians defame themselves by talking about things that have got nothing to do with us.For example does verbal defence of Palestinians cause them to have a better life? The thing is that they occasionally make some statements that the media would misuse it agaisnt Iran. like picking up some specific sensitive phrases from among a long speech (without reffering to the main points and reasons for that speech) and putting so many bad comments on that.No sane person would take it serious.
First of all, Iranians don't hate anyone. If our government complains about some injustice going on in the world, it's not bad.Is it? We hate neither Jews nor Americans. They're both nice people. If their media are fooling them, it's not their fault. If I were in their shoes, I would hate Iran too regarding all the terrible lies they keep hearing about it nearly everyday.Although ordinary Iranians don't care about world affairs, I've got to say that for us Israel is not equal to Jews! Israel is a govt.Jews are faithful people! A few of them live here in our neighbourhood and they live just like the rest of Iranians. No difference. And two of Iran's parliment members are Jews. Who says we want to force the others to convert to Islam?Have you ever found a Muslem knocking at your door asking you to do so?That's so funny. Christians and Jews are both God believers and respectful to us.I wonder why the media like putting words in our mouth and raising hatred. In Iran, religion would be the least important thing. It means that where you come from and what your religion is, are not important to us at all.And I wonder why some Muslem countries think there's a problem between Shiites and Sunnies. It doesn't make sense in Iran.
I wonder Iran is a threat to whom? How is it possible for Iran to nuke somewhere while it doesn't have any nukes?!!!(The media have never been intelligent liars).Has Iran ever attacked any countries? There's no proof on that. That's even what nuclear agency says.Only Iran's oppositions are pulling Iran's leg. What we're doing is legal. What they ask us to do (ignoring our international rights) is illegal and nonsense.
Some say he said: Israel should be wiped off the map! But have they told you the rest of his speech and that why he's said this at all? If you know a little literature, you know that it's a passive sentence. He's never said that IRAN wants to wipe Israel off the map! And he wasn't talking about destroying Israel. He was talking about relocating Israel, so that they could live seperate from Palestinians and they both could live in peace. They've only told you this phrase not the rest of it and it's mistranslated deliberitely.Iran's always defended itself, but it's not an offensive country. While some countries which have nukes are clearly threatening Iran to nuke her! Good, isn't it?
Some say he's said: Holocaust is a myth! again this is a single phrase from among a long speech and there are totally logical reasons for saying so.If 6000000 Jews were killed, that's so terrible, but those 300000 Shiite Moslems killed by Saddam aren't important at all! Over 650000 Iraqi people are killed and it's not important! When Fox News simply says: America and Israel are capable of destroying and killing all Iran's 69000000 population within two weeks, it's OK and no one says they're threatening other countries to nuke them (I saw this with my own eyes on the Fox News website) Millions of people killed in Afghanistan, Hiroshima & Nakazaki and vietnam war are not considered human beings at all! Now I think you'd get the point why he's IRONICALLY said it's a mith. Moreover, don't you believe in freedom of speech/mind?
Obviousely, some countries are using Iran as a victim to put the blame (their own faults) on Iran. And which country is better than Iran to be a victim? They've made the whole world believe that Iran isn't a peaceful country and represent false image of Iranians by making insulting movies like "300" .
Let me predict their next propaganda against Iran: Now that they've let Iran into the negotiations in Iraq, if the level of peace goes up in Iraq, they'll say Iran's co-operated with us to imply that it was Iran's fault that extremists in Iraq were killing each other! And if the level of peace goes down, they'll say Iran didn't co-operate with us! In both cases Iran will be in charge! What a great victim! I wonder when people are going to understand that the media is a political game?! I know Americans don't like these either, but what can they do?The media are so biased.I hope someday the media would end all this instead of playing a negative role in the world.
Thanks.
Answer: Isn't this like, at least the fourth time you posted the exact same article and links. I appreciate your enthusiasm, but you could at least come up with new content.
Question: found out my father has stage 4 lung cancer that has spread to the? brain lymph noides and adrenial gland what alternitive medication would be helpfull and what can i do for him to help him fight this? Statistics show that 14% beat it and i came with truths that he most likely wont make it doctor says without treatment 6 months with medication 2 years and longer depeneding on how he responds to treatment i guess i just want some altenitive medication that may help him
Answer: I am a stage 4 lymphoma survivor. I did chemo and they wanted to do a bone marrow transplant, but I chose not because I was afraid the transplant would kill me. That was in 1990.
Anyhow, I used the Nursing Guide to Prescription Drugs. I looked up each chemo drug and it explained in very readable language, what the drug would leach from me. It also recommended a vitamin or mineral or food to counteract the effects. So on those days I would beef up my body with a particular vitamin matched to the chemo drug.
One of the drugs (oncovin) began to turn my hands and feet numb, so I tried acupuncture to reverse the numbness. It worked.
Since chemo, I searched for a homeopathic physician (that is a doctor with Board Certified as a internal medicine doctor who also practices homeopathy.)
I also made sure I exercised each and every day.
I've been cancer free since 1990, so it's either luck or it worked.
It's very difficult when faced with cancer to not want to try everything out there whether it's bathing in the waters of Lourdes or going to a Mexican clinic.
Question: How many people here want to know the "real" Iran not the "unreal" one portrayed on the news I believe that if you spend 10 minutes reading this essay, you will be better informed than if you listen to a lifetime's worth of Major Media news. This article has two parts:
1. Cultural and general info
2. Political info.
Note: I've explained everything.Any answers before reading the whole thing will prove to be wrong.Specially the political part.I've provided evidence for whatever I say. It's just the way it is.
****
Part 1: Cultural and general info
Hi. I'm a 19 year old Iranian who has spent his life in Iran.I study English. When I chat with people from other countries, I am shocked to see how totally wrong their ideas are about Iran. I wrote this article in an attempt to help correct those ideas.
The first thing the West accuses our government of is that we don't allow personal freedoms. Actually, Iranians disobey laws they don't like as much as anyone. There are only a few restrictions. It's cool over here. People here do whatever they wish to! Many strict rules in other countries don't even exist in Iran. Also, you should understand that what may seem so normal to you, may be a nightmare for us and vise versa. Some of Iran's laws are based on OUR culture. You look at our country from "your own point of view"! In Iran most houses have a sattelite dish. Sattelite television has a serious influence on our people, and Iranians wear very fashionable clothing. Maybe it is a kind of imitation, but we still have our own unique Iranian style. A visitor might wonder if this is a country or a fantasy pageant of beauty queens! Make-up and fashionable clothing are everywhere.I ignore a few fuddy-duddies though!
In my view, everything is great, if you ignore unemployment, drugs, inflation and air pollution. Also, you can't compare Iran today with the Iran you remember. The Shah and the Iatollah Khomini are both some 30 years in the past! 70% of Iran's population is a new generation (Under age 30) without the biases of the past and we've transformed everything.
Ever heard Iranian girls are terrific?I've collected some photos showing Iranian girls! Look! Poeple are like this!
http://www.salijoon.ir/bazigar/hedye%20tehrani/30nema4251159.JPG
http://www.30nema.com/images/gallery/30nema4252403.jpg
http://i10.tinypic.com/4clk3us.jpg
http://tinypic.com/2d0nfao.jpg Is that enough?!
Some people think women don't have any rights in Iran. But in my view, women are overrunning the place. They're very respectful, and they've been the winners in so many cases: Most of them get into the best universities because they're very smart. And they get the best jobs because of their high university degrees. They've got Islamic rights, and that has in some cases made it difficult for men to marry them, because husbands are supposed to buy them expensive things and treat them very well, otherwise women have the right to ask a great amount of money (called Mehr) according to the law, which most husbands cannot afford, so men will be imprisoned. The only thing that women are not allowed to do in Iran is getting into public football stadiums and that's because such places are full of cheeky guys. They do anything from taking part in rallies to singing pop songs.Anything! I've put a sample here.
Another funny thing: Your footage about stoning the women who have committed adultery. Have you ever asked yourselves how many years ago that footage related to? But in one case the thing that had happened was incest not adultery. Most of those footages relate to the early days just after Iran's revolution! Otherwise you'd get new footages at least once a month! What exactly makes you think women are treated differently? The way they are treated in Saudi Arabia? Try to think of the racism in your country too.I found a BOOK of the U.S problems and it got me dizzy! Iran has its own problems too. Each country has its own problems.
Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan are --------- SEPERATE COUNTRIES! --------- Even within Iran, 60% of us are Persian and 30% are Turkish! Iran is a normal country like any other in the world. The Media are very good at creating really scary stuff: "IRAN BEHIND THE CLOSED DOORS!!!" "IRAN UNDERCOVER!!!" Some of that garbage would be enough to scare ME away! But in truth, Iranians are far more open-minded than you have been led to believe.
There are lots of Iranians today who are geniuses and scientists, and are all under age 25. For instance a 17 year old boy has invented 72 amazing inventions. Every year a special scientific compeition is held here and students assemble to show off hundreds of inventions. Iranian students and sportsmen win gold and silver medals in different competitions in the world all the time, in robotics, biology, maths, physics, sports, anything! Why don't the Media talk about them? Please don't summarize our nation and culture with the single word "nuclear". Although we're proud of this achievement because we believe that having nuclear energy means that a country is developed.
A few months ago Iran uncovered the most effective anti-H.I.V medicine. I searched for news of that on the internet, but there was no single sign of it.Now, I found it among the English news: "The medicine is produced from herbs using nano technology" The link to read about it is: http://www.payvand.com/news/07/feb/1032.html
The Media are unjust. They never talk about facts!
Some interesting facts:
Iran is a pioneer in medicine and genetics, and Iranian surgeons have found lots of new methods for treating spinal defects, and many diseases (mainly the treatment for different types of cancer) and the best brain and heart surgeons are Iranian. The pioneer in heart transplants and artificiall hearts and so on and so! (I've put two websites below) The head of the Mars Mission in NASA is Iranian. One of the best designers of sports cars working in Germany is Iranian. Some of the best 3D animators are Iranian. Iran is one of the best countries in counter-engineering. Holds the second place in building dams and in loads of other things! It's one of the top countries in bio-technology and nano-technology. The 4th highest tower in the world (Milad tower) is in Tehran (visit it at this link from wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Milad.jpg ). 51 of the top 100 universities in the Mid-East are in Iran, and they're among the top universities of the world as well. The champion weight-lifter, a woman the nobel peace prize are Iranian. The 6th top movie director in the world is Iranian.(Abbas Kiarostami) http://arts.guardian.co.uk/fridayreview/story/0,12102,1084266,00.html
These are just small samples. If the media told you about Iran's achievemens everyday and didn't hide them, your news would be full of Iranian news!Iranian girls are famous for being terrific. We have Persian rugs and Persian literature, many Persian poets, artists and scientists that are world famous. Iranian culture is now westernized and only a little of the ancient culture has survived. According to statistics Tehran is the cheapest capital city in the world (one Dollar =about 950 Tomans) There are many other things. How many pages would you need to describe a country? Iran has nearly all the industries and technologies found in 'developed' countries. Oh, and we have four seasons! We get a lot of snow and there are skating rinks! lol The list is endless.
I'm gonna introduce Iran's international news website to you (Press TV) which was established recently. It's fully in English. In the "Sic / Tech" section you'll always see Iran's discoveries. The address is: http://www.presstv.ir/news.aspx Press TV news: Iranian scientists have registered more than 4800 inventions during the last Iranian calendar year of 1385 (April 21 2006-April 20, 2007). 4800 inventions in just one year!

The list of notable Iranian figures and pioneers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contemporary_Medicine_in_Iran

Enough evidence?
Some people think Iran is a desert! Well, it is, if you consider California a desert. We share the same latitude. Iran is a modern country with breathtakingly beautiful nature and lots of historic places to visit. Please take a look at the following links to see if Iran looks like what you think or not! Some people think music is forbidden in Iran. "Music of Iran and Iranian musicians have received countless awards in the course of history. Every year from 1977 to 2007.Evidence? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_of_Iran
I send Iranian music to my American and Canadian chat friends and they all say they're some of the best songs they've ever heard.
Here's a sample of the latest hits from two official Iranian music websites. You can just right click on the links below and choose "Save Target As" to download them. Iranian music is just modern pop and the best sort of it.

And so on and on!
It's now 2007 and most people still think we are uneducated people living in deserts and riding camels!
Part 2: Political info.
Let's clarify some political issues as well: Some of the Americans think that president Ahmadinejad hates the U.S and Israel and wants to nuke them!! The Media are good at putting lying comments out there. I really don't get the point why our politicians defame themselves by talking about things that have got nothing to do with us. The thing is that they occasionally make some statements that the media would make them controversial topics to interest its viewers! For example they pick up some specific phrases of a long speech (without refering to the main points and reasons for that speech) and put so many bad comments on that.
First of all, Iranians don't hate anyone. We hate neither Jews nor Americans. How would our guys dream of America, want to be like them as much as possible, and hate them at the same time?! The truth us that Iranians are the only people in the Mid-East that are pro-American! Being agaisnt the U.S policies is a different story! We live basically the same lives.Don't look at the way women dress in public places! You've got to see them in other places!I've got to say that for Iran, Israel is not equal with Jews! Israel is a gov't. Jews are faithful people! 20,000 Jews and lots of Christians live here equally with Iranians and two of Iran's parliment members are Jews. Who says we want to force others to convert to Islam? Have you ever found a Moslem knocking at your door asking you to do so?
Christians and Jews are both God-believers and respectful to us.
I wonder who Iran is really a threat to. Is it logical to say someone's guilty because we THINK / PREDICT that he's going to do something wrong? And they repeat the same "nuclear weapons" tosh over and over and brainwash people! Correction! It's "nuclear energy". Besides, how many "nuclear weapons" do they have themselves? Hundreds of thousands? Has Iran ever attacked any countries? No. Has it developed any nukes? No! That's what nuclear agency says. Only Iran's opponents are pulling Iran's leg and what they say is just based on political conflicts. What we're doing is legal. Iran is a peaceful country. Why? It's the regional super-power and if she wanted, she could easily invade the countries in our neibourhood just like what Saddam did to our country, but as you see Iran has peaceful relations with all of them.
Some people say he said: Israel should be wiped off the map! the thing is that he exactly said: "The Imam "Khomeyni" said this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time."They've only told you this phrase not the whole thing and it's mistranslated intentionally. Besides, they've been saying such things for a long time. It's their habit. Here's an article."Wiped off the map....The roumor of the century.Read how the media and the U.S newspapers have twisted it into a controvertioal topic. http://www.antiwar.com/orig/norouzi.php?articleid=11025 Now you see that you were wrong.Iran has always defended itself, but it's not an offensive country.
Some say he's said: "The Holocaust is a myth!" Again, this is a single phrase taken from a long speech and there are totally logical reasons for saying so. If 6,000,000 Jews were killed, that's terrible, but 300,000 Shiite Moslems killed by Saddam aren't important at all? Over 650,000 Iraqi people are killed and that's not important?! When Fox News simply says that America and Israel are capable of destroying and killing Iran's population of 69,000,000 within two weeks, it's OK and no one says they're threatening other countries to nuke them (I saw this with my own eyes on the Fox News website) Millions of people killed in Afghanistan, Hiroshima & Nagasaki and the Vietnam war are not considered human beings at all! Now I think you'd get the point why he's IRONICALLY said it's a myth. Moreover, don't you believe in freedom of speech/mind? Well, if you'd like to blame someone for that, hope in a time-machine and sue Hitler! lol
Some countries are using Iran as a scapegoat to put the blame (for their own faults) on.
This part is just for Americans:
Those of you who say why Iran says "Death to America":
1. 'America' to us means the U.S govt, not the people. How do you expect Iranians to mean "American people" when our media admires Americans for marching and holding up "no war" placards?! Also, I see a lot of "Let's nuke Iran"s on YA.Isn't that a kind of "Death to Iran"?
2. The new generation don't say such things and if some of them occasionally march in the streets that's because some of the stupid guys enjoy making noise and they mainly go out there to meet their girlfriends/boyfriends! Strange. Isn't it?
3. Such mottos are not just said in Iran and as you know whatever you hear is a response to the U.S govt's terrible actions which has made life for many people hell (You wouldn't deny that attacking countries is a mistake. Would you?)
4. U.S. companies assistance in developing Iraq's chemical weapons facilities during the Iran-Iraq war which killed over a million Iranians
5. USS Vincennes shooting down Iran Air Flight 655 with many civilian fatalities
6.U.S. Support for anti-Iranian terrorist organisations (i.e. the MKO);
7. Economic damage caused by U.S. sanctions and political pressure; U.S. UAV overflights over Iran violating Iranian airspace since 2003.
When you call Ahmadinejad a nutcase for what he's said, what do you call Bush for his war crimes?
To those who are upset with American hostages taken for 444 days:
1. Firstly, It's related to so many years ago and it's almost a part of history, and don't forget that when there's a revolution, there'd be chaos and people may do things that they should not, moreover they're all alive and healthy. Aren't they?
2.The U.S has arrested Iranian diplomats in Iraq and had tortured the one who was freed. Now you decide who has the right to be upset with whom. How do you believe in their lies about politics when they hide both the most and the least important things from you considering the fact that politics is the world of lies in its nature?!!!
If you like to insist on your theory of attacking Israel, I'll tell you our logical theory: "The moment that Iran attacks Israel, Iran will be wiped off the face of the earth by the U.S and its allies and Iran is far more logical than doing such a stupid thing" So, forget about it.I'm quite sure you know that all the events and lies in the world are a part of a pre-planned scenario by major world-powers (Iran as an important country has always been a part of their plans)And the first step is to brainwash people. They excactly know what will happen even 50 years later! I think Iraq is such a good example.Attacking it with the excuse of removing Saddam while they'd put Saddam there themselves and had supported him for years! They said they had W.M.Ds and you believed them. Now they say Iran (a member of N.P.T) has nukes / is developing nukes and you believe them wilhe the nuclear agency hasn't found any sign of illegal activities.Time to wake up!
Isn't it better for both countries to forget past conflicts and to have peaceful relations? Our two gov'ts are like 10 year old children playing a stupid, harsh, rhetorical game. They don't care about hurting people's feelings. They just try to make our two peoples enemies to achieve their own goals. We, as the people of these countries, MUST NOT allow these conflics into our hearts. Now, what do you think? I can't wait to see both nations in peace. It'd be marvelous!
Did you find my article informative? : )
Thanks for your time
Answer: Your article was very informative, thank you.
As you may know the media tend to exaggerate on everything(sensationalism sells).
Obviously I can only answer for myself but I believe it is common knowledge in the US.about Iran being a very civilized country, and the people of Iran being very educated.
There are exceptions to the rule, anywhere.
Wish you well
