Question: what are the chances of surviving cervical cancer? i am doing health and social coursework and have to find out the prognosis of surviving cervical cancer {help!}
Answer: At stage 1 the 5 year survival rate is 80% At stage 4 it is 5%. So you can see the stage makes a big difference. Half of the gynecological cancers in this country are uterine, followed by ovarian at 31% and cervical at 13%. Statistics in highly populated thrid world countries are very different than ours due to the lack of screening exams.
Question: Cervical Cancer Stage 3? Im 23 , and i have been recently diagnosed with cervical cancer stage 3, I had a LEEP procedure done to remove the abnormal cells and sent out to pathology.I wanted to know if any one out there that has had the same experience and if so i would like to know what the next steps are, and what are the prognosis usually in a situation like this.
Answer: Scary stuff. Been there done that in 2002. Always had regular PAP smear tests every two years that were normal. However began to feel unwell, tired and had changes to my periods. Saw my Dr and underwent a pelvic Ultrasound, This showed Fibroids in uterus. Was sent to a specialist who conducted examination including a PAP smear test. It had been 18 months since the previous one and much to my surprise atypical cells were detected. A colposcopy was done and CIN3 was diagnosed. Within one month I had a LeeP procedure was conducted. This was then followed with 3 monthly pap smear and colposcopy tests for 6 months, then 6 monthly follow ups for about 12 months. I now have yearly PAP tests with GP and since all has been clear.
CIN3 is a precursor to full blown cervical cancer and we were both lucky to have this detected early so condition could be treated.
Also changes to the cervix dont have to start at CIN1 and work through to CIN3. They can start at any stage.
Take care and i hope this has been of help to you.
