Kidney Cancer Prevention
Question: What can be done to promote awareness for Kidney Disease Prevention? Did you know that a lot of people have 1st and 2nd stage Kidney Disease and do NOT even KNOW it? It can be caused by high blood pressure which a LOT of people have or Diabetics can easily end up with Kidney Disease!!
There is so much in the media about Cancer and Aids but not a lot at all about Kidney Disease!
So in YOUR oppinion, how can more awareness be spread? What can be done to inform people that testing creatinine levels (not to be confused with Creatine which is completely different) is very important and knowing what your blood pressure is and eating right? Some people are even born with only 1 kidney and don't even KNOW it!
How much do YOU know about YOUR kidney??

To Andy O: I use Google all the time. This is more to see how aware OTHER people are than just looking for research on Google.
Take a look!

See?? I use Google lol
Answer: www.google.com has a great deal of information that you could use to find your answers , while yahoo answer is more likely to be better for people's opinions.. thanks.
Question: what can you do if you have kidney cancer? ( I don't have it)? What do you do for prevention?
Answer: It depends on what stage it is at. If it has not mestatisized, a nephrectomy can be done to remove the tumor. This can be done laproscopically or open surgery. Also, you could have the tumor ablated with RF ablation or cryo ablation if it's small enough. If it has mestastisized, you can get a bone marrow transplant if you have a matching donor. You can get Alpha Interferon and IL therapy. You can take any of 3 angio genesis inhibitors, possibly more, some are in trial, but 3 have been approved by the FDA. You can have the blood supply embolized.
For prevention, don't smoke, keep your weight from getting too high, don't be exposed to too much heavy metals. None of these is preventative, but will lower your risk.
Question: Can I take Acai and Cranberry supplements together? I'm 16 if it matters. I want to take cranberry for the prevention of cancer, heart disease, urinary infections, and kidney stone effect. Also, I wanted the Acai for the energy and weight loss. Should I take them both?
Answer: Hey there -- I think that would be just fine. I currently take cranberry supplements every day (for me it's to prevent urinary tract infections, which I'm prone to) along with acai berry supplements. My favorite acai brand is http://www.acai-balance.com
If you have any real concerns you should ask your doctor, but I'm confident that this combination is okay. I know that it's okay for me.
Good luck to you!
Question: Can beer be good for your Health? the following 'facts' are taken from http://www.ilovebeer.org/links.php
Are they true???
Moderate drinking can be good for you. Drinking 2 or 3 units of alcohol per day has been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease. This is true of all alcohol not just red wine.
Drinking a bottle of beer a day can reduce the risk of kidney stones by up to 40%
Hops have been shown to have cancer fighting, anti-inflammatory and antibiotic properties and can help in the prevention of osteoporosis.
Answer: a case a day will keep anyone away!
Question: recommend a prevention/remedy for heart attack/stroke and a heart specialist in arizona.? my short story.....
maternal family history....diabetes, cancers of many sorts(young siblings n old relatives), glaucoma, weak kidney, extreme ecxema, n a few other things.
paternal history...possible digestion problems bc some have acne/skin problems. dad finally died of a heart attack, his sisters/siblings/cousins died of the same thing.
they were all young, dad was only 42.
my sister is 47 n has had congenital heart disease for years. she is in a wheelchair, on oxygen, n got a defibrillator implant last year.
over the last few years i have had off and on high blood pressure. it was minor and i did not always need medication. i have had small symptoms of heart trouble for about 10 years. it never prevented me from doing anything and no doctor gave me any medications. about 10 years ago i noticed shortness of breath w the stair climbing, so i lost weight to accomodate. i have an extremely small frame so i went from what looked like average to skinny. that helped a lot. i did not associate the shortness of breath w anything else. there were bouts w stress and i lived in a house that poisoned me w various pollutions. the gase hot water heater was never properly hooked up and the vents were never properly cleaned. i breathed that for almost 15 years before i figured it out. i am sure that had something to do w my deterioration.
early last year i had strange things like small tightness in the jaw joint from time to time and the throat closing like a suffication/choking. i had to concentrate to squeeze down air. i never knew how to quite explain that but the doctors dismissed it. once i was eating and suddenly could not swallow no matter how hard i concentrated.
last year i went to a heart specialist w pain in my left arm. the office was horrible. they depended solely on a stress test but they could nt get the wires hooked up right. plus some girl was in training and did not know what she was doing. the supervisor came in to help but she was no better. when the visit was over i was upset because they told me nothing was wrong. just come back next year. i tried to convince them otherwise but i did not do a good job. i did not think to go to another specialist. months went by. eventually i walked down my hallway and suddenly out of the blue felt nauseous then faint. i did not faint, but since i did not know what it was i was puzzled with the episode.
about june i started to have serious shortness of breath and problems w high blood pressure. my doctor left the country and i did not find a replacement. i had daily headaches n it seems that i had them so bad it could have been a small stroke. maybe i am paranoid, but something did go wrong. the doctors have no idea what i describe to them. i am gettting upset just thinking about it but no one took this seriously so i trusted them and thought i was in better shape than i really was.
with horrific stress, divorce, job problems, financial difficulty (the usual stress killers), etc. i find that i have symptoms that i have never encountered before. pressure/light tightness from head to toe on the left side. turned to burning on the left side. flushed cheeks. dull tingling/numbness of the lower face/tongue/lips, dizziness and uncontrolled hbp. the numbers range from the low 100's to 160+. before it was far over that. when all this started the numbers were only about 125 and i thought that was horrible. it changes from minute to minute even with a stronger medication. the dull pain in my arm moved up to near my armpit then it moved to the left side of my upper chest. i try to keep it as low as possible by drinking hot tea or soup. it drops a few points (ie: from 160 to 140) but i can not seem to keep it under 140. excercise does not seem to help. my heart pounds excessively and has done so for about 4 months. it does not matter if the pressure rate is down or not.
all i take is hbp medicine and vitamins one time each day. i saw a new heart specialist who is just having me wait for testing. while i wait, i made an appointment w a 3rd heart specialist. in the meantime i asked my existing doctor (2nd) what can be done n i was told to go the ER. no thanks. the bill used to be only 50.00 for ER but now the visits are now close to 1k with insurance. the health care system i am in told me that the doctors don't contract with them anymore. after insurance, i still have a large bill.
so here i am asking you what i can do to keep my hbp under control and to prevent a heart attack and stroke. i am about 50 years old, female, over 5feet 7inches tall, small/skinny frame and i could not take any more medical/financial trauma. i never smoked/drank or did drugs but i find myself taking tylenol every day for the headaches. i never like junk food. as a baby my favorite foods were vegetables. i dont eat a perfect diet becasue of the high food prices. my kitchen has poultry, canned leafy greens, canned beans, canned tuna, canned beets, rice, dried
Answer: Honestly it sounds like you are making yourself sick stressing your health issues. You really need to lighten your stress load! Try a small glass of red wine nightly. If you are against wine try a glass of welches sparkling red grape juice. It is relaxing and great for the heart. My husband has been able to go off of HB medicine thanks to the one glass of red wine a night thing.

Question: Voting Palin for PRESIDENT? John McCain is 72 years old.
(The average lifespan for an American male is 73).
According to his own three hour "release" of THOUSANDS of pages of medical documents he's already been diagnosed THREE TIMES with cancer (including every type of skin cancer there is: basal, squamous, and malignant melanoma).
He's ALSO been dignosed with: degenerative arthritis, vertigo, allergies, cataracts, high cholesterol, AND high blood pressure.
AND is taking six different medications for the treatment of his: sleep disorder, allergies, bad kidneys, AND prevention of blood clots (which cause strokes).
These are just what could be found during the 3 hour "release" of his medical history. Does anyone else you know even have THOUSANDS of pages of medical documents???
Do we really want Palin for PRESIDENT?
P.S. McCain's father (nearest MALE relative) died at age 70.
Answer: this question is ridiculous! did you watch the NRC? his mom is like 96 and is still going strong. if he is anything like his mom, he could do 2 terms in presidency.
Question: What is the problem with healthcare? For the longest time in my life no one cared, Obama is a socialist, but besides the fact, seriously what is the problem, to see if there is one I will list the top 10 causes of death by the CDC and see if medical treatment is necessary. In all cases of Emergency by law the Hospitals MUST take you, even they take illegal immigrants. No one gets denied to the ER, so any ways here are the top 10 killers in America according to the CDC.

* Heart disease: 631,636

* Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 124,583
* Accidents (unintentional injuries): 121,599
* Diabetes: 72,449

* Influenza and Pneumonia: 56,326
* Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 45,344
* Septicemia: 34,234
1. Heart Disease - is my favorite since the causes are related to poor diet, lack of exercise, and stress. You don't need health care to treat your self unless you need a prescription to exercise.
2. Cancer has a problem since that is a vague term, what kind of cancer, really if it's anything related to smoking, being over weight, are caused by the individual. The other problem is modern medicine today doesn't even have a true cure. Does it really matter how many times you want to go through Chemotherapy till you die? You got leukemia which is cancer of the blood, That's the only one I can picture needing to go to the hospital for, considering you need to get your blood checked, unfortunately that group is such a minority in the big spectrum of cancer it's not an issue. Not to mention cancer it's self can be spotted by annual check ups, a doctor visit doesn't cost much, you're acting like you are going through an MRI per visit.
3. Stroke - is the same concept as a heart attack, just a stroke is the lack of blood flow to the brain. So the same concept of proper nutrition, exercise, and stress management occurs. No need for a doctor.
4. Chronic Lower Respiratory Disease - 80% of it is caused by smoking or second hand smoke. Someone tell me if you need health insurance to prevent stupidity. The cure is oxygen replacement and to stop smoking. Please tell me how expensive that is. What happens is if you can't use your lungs efficiently you become dependent on using an oxygen tank. I can't think of how expensive it truly must be to refill an oxygen tank. Man this is hilarious on how "Expensive it is"
5. Accidents - Do you really need health insurance for this?
6. Diabetes - again is vague, there are 3 types of diabetes, Type 1 will always be insulin dependent, type 2 is insulin dependent due to having a poor diet and ruining their blood sugar by bad choices, and type 3 is caused when a female is pregnant, which more so goes away. Type 2 Diabetics is the biggest in this catagory, again why am I repeating myself, it's the individuals fault, except for type 1, since type 1 are genetically that way. Type 2 isn't genetic, Type 1 can see a doctor for free for all I care it's such a small number compared to the type 2. Type 2 is done by poor choices of diet and lack of exercise. I repeat myself alot.
7. Alzheimer's disease - There is no cure, what good is it if you have health insurance any ways? So you can be pumped full of drugs and be slowly dying in a painless way. There is no cure like cancer, no true cure. There are little treatments that still don't change the out come. It doesn't matter regardless.
8. Influenza and Pneumonia - If you read up on this, it suggests to get vaccinated for this. Again with the prevention factor individuals won't consider. The main treatment for influenza is to rest, drink plenty of fluids, and avoid exertion. Fever and aches are sometimes treated with acetaminophen or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs, such as aspirin or ibuprofen).
Does that even sound expensive to drink fluids and rest then swallow an over the counter drug like aspirin?
9. Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis - Finally one that really requires hospital treatment, this is the failure of the kidney, of course you need a hospital for this. This one will hurt if you don't have health insurance, I can finally agree that the individual uninsured here is screwed.
10. Septicemia (also septicæmia [sep⋅ti⋅cæ⋅mi⋅a][3], or erroneously Septasemia and Septisema) is a related but deprecated (formerly sanctioned medical) term referring to the presence of pathogenic organisms in the blood-stream, leading to sepsis.[4] The term has not been sharply defined. It has been inconsistently used in the past by medical professionals, for example as a synonym of bacteremia. In the lame terms, due to unsanitary conditions or place of alot of bacteria can this be consumed. The therapy of sepsis rests on antibiotics, surgical drainage of infected fluid collections, fluid replacement and appropriate support for organ dysfunction. Anti
Uninsured doctor visits cost on average.
Family practice: $95 to $265
Specialist: $115 to $325
Antibiotics cost on average $65 to 125 dollars a week.
Wow alot of my information got sliced off.
Chester why do you need health insurance for preventive care when it suggests you eat right, exercise, and manage your stress? How the hell do you not comprehend that, does a doctor need to write you a prescription to run 2 miles?
PARKERD: What kind of person sits there dying of things they lacked to manage. You realize the top 10 killers of America are manageable, You're taking away the individual responsibility of people and assuming it's not their fault. We can be a fascist country and mandate everyone eats a certain way, exercises a certain way, but then it would conflict with our freedom. People are freely choosing to kill them selves with the poor choices they make. It's not lack of insurance, it's lack of self respect.
eelfins: I am advocating for prevention because the causes of these diseases could be prevented, cancer has many preventions, most people that have cancer don't get it randomly like they're struck by lightning. So why do you need to treat someone with health insurance like the number 1 killer, which can be prevented by proper nutrition, exercise, and stress management. Is Yahoo Answers holding an idiot marathon? You don't need hospital treatment for illnesses that can be prevented. Same reason why I don't need someone to tell me to cross the street, when I can prevent getting hit by looking both ways.
Cross the road to enlightenment please, you're blaming lack of insurance on the individuals lack of prevention. If these illnesses where caused by random lucky I'd say otherwise.
YA! the anti-conservative site: Can I rip your pants off and shove your genitalia in my face, since you're the one decent enough to make a standard statement. Of course Medicare and Mediciaid ruined the private sector of health care. You can't have the government give free health care options and expect a private insurance company to compete fairly. It forms a monopoly and drives away the private competition since the government can't lose since it has unlimited funds with taxpayers, only way the government can lose is if it goes bankrupt. Oh wait we are 11 trillion dollars in debt. I hope to god someone wakes up and stops advocating for more liabilities for this nation.
Alan S: those 45,000 people that die yearly and don't have health insurance you so claim. How do you know their cause of death is directly related to cause of death. How do you know what they died from? If someone gets hit by a car and dies and doesn't have health insurance they would be a part of your statistic. But really it wouldn't be relevant. I would need to know the causes of death. I listed the top 10 causes of death in America by the federal site. If you notice most of them can be prevented if people took care of them self. Maybe I'll rip my ears off and attach them to your skull so hopefully you can hear what I am saying. I am disgusted by how you allow people to be uneducated and voluntarily kill them self and advocate for health care being cheaper. Why not advocate people to make healthier life style choices. Make them a non-heart attack statistic, what good is health care when you make poor choices and die from a heart attack. Preventative measures are the top priority.
Answer: The problem is that alot of people either do not pay, or are on government sponsored medicare or Medicaid. This has led to a loss in ability for hospitals to pay for better staff, better equipment, top rated doctors. Many hospitals are going bankrupt due to high numbers of illegals, and low reimbursement for Medicaid or Medicare.
Question: URGENT!!!!!!!! can someone please help me with what else i can put in my paper???? sorry its a little long =/? i dont want anyone to write my paper for me...dont worry...but i need some ideas on some more things to put into it- i still need about a page...please help! sorry its a little long...thanks in advance!
According to The Centers for Disease and Control Prevention or The CDC, each year there is an estimated amount of 438,000 Americans who die as a result of smoking or even just second-hand smoke. In addition, for each American who dies, there are 20 Americans living with an illness that has been caused by smoking or the exposure to second-hand smoke. There is an exceeding cost of $167 billion dollars a year that is paid for smoking-related medical expenses. This amount shows just how many health and medical issues smokers have to deal with from the time they start smoking until death.
There are tremendous amounts of health issues smokers have to deal with, such as cancer, heart disease and stroke, and respiratory health. It is astounding the amounts of different types of cancer that can be caused by these “cancer sticks”. According to the CDC, the types of cancer that are caused are cancer of the lip, oral cavity, pharynx, esophagus, larynx or voice box, lungs, uterine cervix, urinary bladder, and kidneys.
The leading cause of death in the United States is coronary heart disease and smokers are up to 4 times more likely to develop this disease than non-smokers are. Cigarette smoke also doubles a person’s chance of having a stroke. Not only does this happen to smokers, but it is just as bad to those who breathe in second-hand smoke. Also according to the CDC, second-hand smoke causes heart disease and lung cancer. It actually increases the risk of heart disease by 25 to 30 percent and increases the risk of lung cancer by 20 to 30 percent. These statistics are only for those who have been exposed to second-hand smoke.
Just think about this for a minute, think about children in a car with parents who smoke. Those children are going to be at a very high risk for lung cancer and heart disease. They are, for the most part, always sick with a cold. My older sister, sarah, smokes and she has two children, searah and katriese. Whenever I see those girls, they always have stuffy noses and are constantly coughing up a storm. If I were sarah, I would feel horrible putting my children in that situation. I would also try to think about how the cigarettes are affecting my life and how it is shortening by every puff taken.
its an opinion editorial so im supposed to have some personal stuff...
