Kidney Cancer Treatment
Question: what is best treatment for kidney cancer that has spread to liver? Hi my mum was diagnosed with kidney cancer in Dec 2007 and had her right kidney removed Jan 08, it was a stage 3 tumor and though they said it was very advanced they did not remove the lymph-nodes as they thought they were ok.
In Nov 08 her ct scan was clear and in March 09 they scan showed a spot on her liver which was 1.5cm, she had a MRI and they referred her back to the oncologist who told us the cancer had spread.
At present she is awaiting to see the surgeon in L'pool regarding having the left half of her liver removed, which we have been told is major op.
My mum is not sure if she wants the op, for a few reasons 1 because she feels removing half the liver will not cure the cancer and as they feel its probably spread through the blood or lymph-nodes and she feels it will only be matter of time before it reappears. 2 because she has been told its a minimum of a 3 month recovery.
Is it true that the cancer is likely to reappear even if the current spot is removed?
And does anyone know about radiofrequeny treatment as she is very keen to try that as compared to major sugery it only takes about a wks recovery.
Which has the best results, and if she had surery how long would the cancer stay away? Are we talking it could stay away years amd years, as the oncologest said kidney cancer is an aggesive cancer.
Answer: I'm sorry to hear about your mum's cancer.
If the oncologist has told you that it has likely spread beyond the liver then it is probable that it will come back later. Radiation therapy only works when you know where the cancer is. It may get rid of the cancer in the liver, as surgery will, but it won't prevent another spreading.
If your mother's fears are well founded about further metastasis then I can see her reasoning for wanting the least invasive procedure possible.
Question: Using mercury rods as a treatment for kidney cancer? ? A co-worker told me her father is having experimental treaments from Stanford where mercury rods are implanted in his arm, which have put him in remission. He was doing worse on chemo and radiation. I thought mercury was extremely toxic! Has anyone ever heard of this? She's a little kooky so I wanted to check it out. Thanks!
Answer: A google search turned up nothing on this. Mercury in the arms to treat a kidney cancer makes little sense to me. If he is on it experimentally, he will have a copy of the protocol for the treatment with a consent form. Ask to look at it. I can't say it might not be possible, however- just do some research.
Blessings
Question: alternative treatment kidney cancer?
Answer: american cancer socity has a section where it describes the role of ayurveda an an alternative treatment in the cure of cancer. ayurveda has treatments prescibed for cancer which date back thousands of years these treatments are time tested and proven.
we should devote more energy to the ancient wisdom provided to us for many disease cures, instead of developing poisonous medicines like chemotherapy and radiation.
ayurveda can be developed as an effective alternative treatment for cancer.
Question: Kidney Cancer? What are the Causes of Kidney Cancer? What happens if the cancer has already spread throught the kidney and onto the second one? What is the treatment?
I asked because after my Mother died we found out she had kidney cancer
Answer: Why do you ask hope nobody you know has it. Not sure what causes it, its like any other cancer a mystery. My Mum was diagnosed with kidney cancer last may. At first thought they where going to remove the kidney. That was before they did a ct scan and found it had spread to her liver and lung. It was VERY aggressive. in less than 6 weeks one of the 3 cm tumors in Mums liver had grown to OVER 12cm. There was NOTHING they could do. They tried a drug called Sutent but it was useless the cancer had spread to far by this point. Mum pasted away sept 7 after only a four month battle aged 60. The worst thing about it was there where NO symptoms at all and mum lead a very healthy lifestyle never smoked or drank alcohol a day in her life. It was a heartbreaking shock
Question: let me know which is good hospital in india for treatment of cancer spread in kidney, spinal cord ,advanced ?
Answer: All details are on their home page
Question: looking for cancer of the kidney and treatment?
Answer: Depends on how far advanced the cancer is in the kidney. Is transplantation an option for you? Ask your nephro doc (kidney doctor) about UNOS and see if he is able to locate a cross match for you. I know it may seem like a huge feat, but you would not believe the number of successful kidney transplants that have been done in cases such as with cancer of the kidney (providing it has not yet metastisized to other organs or regions and providing that you are healthy enough to undergo this type of option). I wish you the best of luck and my prayers are with you! Keep that chin up and learn all you can from your doctor about this.
(If you're not already seeing a nephrologist, that would definitely be the first step.)
Question: What kind of chemo treatments are available for kidney cancer?
Answer: Honestly, its better you consult a specialist. I really want to help but I don't think I can give better answers than specialist do. Sorry.
good luck

Question: Can Kidney Cancer kill you? My friend has Kidney cancer and all treatment has failed, Will it kill them, if so around how long would they have, and what are some signs they show when they are about to pass away?
Answer: It is always hard to give information to someone when you don't know all their symptoms or medical history. Kidney cancer patients usually only have a 50 - 60 % survival rate after 5 years but it depends on the progression of the tumor. The treatment usually involves surgery, radiation & chemo although sometimes not all are done. If your friend is able to get up, walk around & eat, he is doing well. As the tumor progresses he will not be able to do these things anymore. He will probably lose his appetite & therefore lose weight & become weak. He will then become bedridden.Hopefully ( if he no longer gets treatments) he will be referred to Hospice. They will make sure he has the proper medications for pain & have nurses aide & nursing visits. He will not be able to eat anymore & possibly go into a coma. This is normal for all cancer patients and usually when he no longer take anything by mouth, he will go into the final terminal phase which normally lasts 1- 2 weeks. It is always hard ro say how long someone has for people are all individuals. The best thing you can do is to be close to your friend, visit with him as often as you can & even if he does not respond to you, keep talking & always assume he can hear you. Hope this helps. Also remember to encourage the family too to be there for him. God bless.
Question: Is chemotherapy used only for cancer treatment? My father in law is in hospital poorly and has had bone marrow tests, kidney biopsy and has been told he has an infection in his blood. He is to start receiving chemotherapy and has just started intraveneous steroids. We are told not to worry it is not cancer but I assumed chemo was only used for cancer, can anyone else help? Kathy.
Answer: No it has other uses. Chemotherapy will suppress the immune system so the medications needed can eradicate the infection properly and have the full effect.
