Kidney Cancer Types
Question: I need help writing a conclusion for my research paper on kidney cancer? I'm not sure how to start the conslusion for my research paper. This is the introduction if it helps.
Cells are the foundation of the human body. [4]. Organs and tissues consist of many cells. [4]. Cancer occurs when there is a malfunction of these cells. [4]. Usually cells will divide in a logical and controlled method. [4]. There are times when they may begin to divide uncontrollably. [4]. This results in a lump, also known as a tumor. [4]. There are two different types of tumors. [4]. A begin tumor is when the cells do not extend to other parts of the body, this kind of tumor is not cancerous. [4]. A malignant tumor, in contrast is cancerous. [4]. It has cells that have the ability to reach outside of the original area. [4]. Kidney cancer is identified as a malignant tumor. [4]. The most common type of kidney cancer is renal cell carcinoma. [5]. However there are other types of kidney cancers. One of them most common in children is Wilms tumor. [5].
Just ignore the numbers, those are for my citations.
Thanks :)

Question: My shepard has kidney cancer and I don't no what to do? I have a 5 yr.old German Shepard [female]who has kidney cancer, any of the big ticket options are out,we seem to have caught it in it's early stages is there any type of diet changes or anti biotics we can give her to prolong the inevitable?Any sugs.A.S.A.P.would be appreciated.
Answer: Treating dog cancer has advanced, but the basic fact that your dog needs a boosted immune system to fight cancer has not. Holistic pet supplements can help boost your pet's immune system which helps his body fight against the cancer. A dog cancer diet can offer your dog the fighting chance he deserves.
A holistic dog cancer diet that is natural and targeted to give your dog the most nutrition can be the secret to returning your dog to health. Don't think that regular dog food is the best thing for your dog who is suffering from cancer. Most don't offer enough nutrition to be beneficial to a healthy dog not to speak of one that is fighting against a life threatening disease.
Cancer develops, because your dog's immune system has weakened and was unable to fight cancer cells as they developed. If undergoing chemotherapy, your dog's immune system is diminished further. As a result, dogs with cancer require an integrated treatment program including a highly nutritional diet and anticancer supplements that augment traditional treatment.
A dog with cancer is building a lot of new tissue, and adequate proteins and cell membrane compounds omega 3 fish oil are required to do this. When the adequate amounts of the correct proteins and fats are not present in the diet, the body will rob it from other places, leading at best to muscle wasting, but more likely complications with the functions of the kidneys and liver.
The first rule for feeding a dog with cancer is to STAY AWAY FROM GRAINS! Dogs did not evolve as grain eaters. Most of our commercial dog foods are based upon rice, wheat or corn. But if we look at dogs in nature, we find they never graze in the wheat field or rice paddies. Dogs have evolved for the past 10 million years as primarily meat eaters.Feel free to add canned sardines (best), cottage cheese, eggs and yogurt (plain). High fat content is good. Some vets advocate a raw diet, while some say it should be cooked. More important than cooked or raw is the amount of animal-based protein and fats. Keep in mind, dogs are primarily carnivores. They do best on the diet they evolved to eat.
Certain fatty acids called Omega 3 fish oil are required in fighting cancer. Fish oil is a good source of these specific fatty acids. We HIGHLY recommend fish oil be added to any cancer dogs diet. It is easy to get a dog to take their fish oil. If you open the softgel, you will find it is stinky and fishy. It's like candy for dogs. They love it. Just snip open the capsule and squeeze some out so the dog can smell it the first time, and after that you should have no problem with the dog taking the capsules.
One 1000 mg softgel capsule per 20 lbs body weight per day is a good dose for dogs. (60 lbs dog gets 3 capsules per day). Some people like to use flax seed oil, and that is okay in theory, but often times dogs will not readily eat flax oil so it needs to be disguised in a carrier. This is a good indication it is not the best choice. It is better to stick with fish oil. Try grating carrot in your dogs dinner, if she will take em.
Other Dietary Supplements:
Biosilymarin: This helps prevent liver damage. It can help treat hepatitis and prevent injury from other drugs.
Shark Cartilage: This has anti-angiogenic properties which reduce blood vessels in tumors. You can use 1000-2000 mg of shark cartilage if recommended by your vet or oncologist
K-9 Immunity should be used at a dose of 1 capsule per 10 lbs per day to enhance immune function and cancer recognition.
I'm sorry to hear that about your Shepherd. Good luck, I hope she fights and wins... Good luck!
Question: which type of kidney cancer has the highest cure rate? transitional cell or renal cell?
Answer: The cure rate would be how the cancerous tumors have metastasized to lymph glands and to distant sites,or if has spread by invading the renal vein and even the vena cava.Surgery would still be an option, removal of the kidney and surrounding lymph nodes.Kidney cancer is usually fast growing, and spreads easily to the lungs and other distant sites, that has a poor prognosis because radiation wouldn't be feasible.Chemotherapy is an option along with interluekin 2,along with increasing the immune system.Several new options using combinations of chemo with interleukin 2 have recently been approved. Take care. SW RNP
Question: Still nothing can be done for many types of cancer? The public thinks science has cured cancer.
This is not true.
If you get pancreatic cancer most are dead
in 6 mo.s .
Same with kidney and multiple myeloma.
Stage 4 cancer and you are hopeless.
This is a matter of life and death.
Being told you have cancer is a nightmare like
you can not image.
Chemo is horriable.
Get up at daylight and sit there all day with
a big niddle in your arm.
Then it wears out your body.
A new dose every 30 days.
Take an MRI and the doctor says it has done nothing.
Radiation and chemo can give you cancer.
You have no idea what living with
constant fear for your life does to a person.
Nothing is worse than being told you are going to
die and the doctor can do nothing.

Question: Renal Cell Carcinoma (Kidney Cancer); Please share your experience or knowledge.? My mother in law has renal cell carcinoma. I am just interested in others who have either experienced this type of cancer or know someone who has. If you're willing to share your experience, I would really appreciate it. :)
She is maybe 10lbs overweight, never smoked, rarely drinks, exercises and eats pretty healthy. FYI.
Answer: I was diagnose with RCC in June of 2000. I was diagnosed with metastatic RCC in October of 2001. I have been fighting ever since. For many who are stage 1, 85% are cured by radical nephrectomy, either open or laproscopic sugery. For metastatic disease, there are many modalities of treatment. Bone Marrow transplant if a suitable donor can be found (sister or brother), Alpha Interferon and Interleukin II, RF ablation, Embolization, Cyberknife, Angiogenesis inhibitors, are all therapies I have been on or tried to be on at one point or another. They all have their own list of side effects and they are different for different people. I have not yet exhausted all the treatment types available. I still work full time and while I am slowed down a little, I appreciate what I have more and take things less for granted.

Question: My grandfather (67years old) was diagnosed with kidney cancer a few months ago.... ? They took out his kidney and the tumore and some of the surrounding tissue. They then declared him cancer free. However we noticed that he was not gaining strngth or getting any better so we went back to the hospital. The doctors did a bone scan and saw that it had spread to his bones. (pelvic, shoulder and spine) They also saw that it had spread a little to his lungs. They are giving him calcium infusions to help with pain and they are starting him on treatment to help maintain his cancer. I was just wondering if anyone has any knowledge on this type of cancer. How long we can expect to have him here with us etc. Thanks so much!
Answer: Kidney cancer (renal cell carcinoma), in the metastatic setting is unfortunately uncurable and has an overall poor prognosis. But with newer therapies, the median survival (meaning the amount of time at least 50% of the patients will live) is about 1.5 to 2 years. Some folks have more aggressive forms and live much less, some much longer. Good luck.
Question: Cancer on right kidney? Hello,
i was just told that i have an lesion on my right kidney an that it could be a cyst or cancer. My Dr told me that he can not do a biospy because this type of cancer that kidneys have spread real fast doing this procedure if there was an error. So he wants to take the kidney out an cut the lesion off ( Still will have part of my kidney. The lesion is about an half an inch. I'm wondering why i would have to go through all this pain an it could be a cyst. I plan to go for a second opinion. any advice would be helpful at this stressful time. Thank you for your time.
Missy
PS. He is a (UROL Specialist)
Thanks everyone for sending me your replies. I am looking on these sites that some of you sent to me.
God bless each an everyone of you.
Once again THANKS!!!!!!!
Answer: A second opinion is the right way to go. And a third opinion if you don't like the first two. Also ask about other treatment options.
http://www.kidneycancerinstitute.com/kidney-cyst.html
There are lots of websites that deal with this. It might help to educate yourself before your second dr visit.
Good luck. I hope it all works out for you.
Question: If someone has Kidney Cancer...? Could I donate a kidney to help them? Yes blood types are compatible, and all; but I'm not familiar with 'kidney cancer' (Their words. It's a friend of mine's husband with it, and I'm wondering)
I guess it would mainly depend if it's spread between both.
if not, could I just donate plattelettes to him for dialysis? I'm not completely sure about any of it.
Any info would be appreciated.
Answer: You should contact a licensed oncologist. Let him or her explain what is involved with this in each and every way. This is a very serious matter and should be weighed in that particular 'vein of thought.' Then pray on this subject. What shall we then say to these things? If GOD be for us, WHO can be against us? - Romans 8:31 The Lord daily loadeth us with BENEFITS, even the GOD of our salvation. Selah - Psalm 68:19. Peace!!!
Question: Gift idea for cancer survivor.? My brother in law has been a firefighter for 15 years. 2 months ago at the age of 34 he was diagnosed with kidney cancer ( a type of cancer recognized to be a result of the occupation). He just had the kidney removed, and so far, it looks like it hasnt spread. The fire department, for which he is the Deputy Cheif, wants to get him a nice gift to show their support. They have asked my husband and I for ideas, but I cant think of anything. Anybody have any good ideas?
Answer: Buy him something that he likes, just as you would for his birthday or Christmas.
Just so you know . . . your brother-in-law does not meet the clinical definition of cancer survivor as yet, though he will hopefully be one eventually. Cancer survivors are defined as being disease free 5 years after their surgery, chemo, and/or radiation treatments are concluded.
Best wishes for his healthy return to an active life.
Question: Cancer on lymphnodes and kidney that is neither lymphoma or renal cancer? A doctor found malignant tumors on my father's kidney and lymphnodes in scans and later took tissue samples. The biopsy results came back today and it turns out that he has neither renal cancer nor lymphoma and they are taking more samples to try to figure it out. What other types of cancer could this be? He has NO outward symptoms besides back pains (that's why he went in for scans... he thought it was a pinched nerve). I know that we will find out from the professionals in the next few weeks, but the waiting until then is wretched!
Answer: My guess is if the cancer was found in the kidneys but not a kidney or lymphoma, it may be another cancer that the cells have spread to these areas or for some reasons developed in these areas.
There are alot of good treatments out there. Your best bet is to wait to hear from the doctor. Pre-worry is many times unneccesary worry you never needed to have. Patience is the best policy. The waiting is hard, but don't wear yourself out with worry. Nothing you read here may ever apply to your father.......
My daughter had very slim survival chances. I was told she wouldnt survive the year. She was 4 at diagnosis. She is currently "15". No matter what your told or the statistics you see for it, never give up. There are many, many miracles left in this world! I live with one! I seen many more with the same ending stories. STAY POSSITVE!
BTW My daughters tumors were in both kidneys, (more than one) and in several lymph noids. She didn't have either fo those cancers either. She had Bi-Lateral Wilms. That would be an odd one for you father though as it is a childs cancer. I beleive the oldest case of it is 16? Its usually discoved in children under age 2. My daughter was even discoverd late int he game. It is believed she was born with it. Hers is the genetic type of Wilms.
GOD BLESS!
Question: How do we get the world to better fund and better recognize the various forms of childhood cancer? My son, now 4, was 3 1/2 when diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer called a Wilms Tumor (kidney tumor). While there is money being put toward it's research more needs to be added. Stages 4 and 5 of this type of cancer can be very hard to fight. New drugs need to be developed for these more aggressive cases. Also, the survival rate, if you relapse, is not what it should be. Longterm survival rates, with no relapse, can be very good. I believe that more attention needs to be given to all forms of childhood cancer, not just leukemia.
For the record, my son is nearly 6 months off treatment and so far is doing just fine! His next check up is at the end of July.
Answer: Since Wilms, as you say, is a rare form of childhood cancer, the money--and overall, childhood cancer research is well funded--is honestly better spent on cancers that affect more children. While I do understand your desire to see more attention paid to your son's illness, the research must first be done on more common cancers.
Lest you think I am unsympathetic, I lost my own youngest 2 years ago to complications from very aggressive chemo when he was 5, 10 years prior to his death. (Don't let that scare you, though, treatment has come a long way in 12 years!) He was fortunate to have the ten years, though, as his cancer, like your son's, was rare and not well understood, hence the very aggressive treatment.
Nonetheless, I still understand the need to work on the more common cancers first. It is not only leukemias that are now being turned into treatable illnesses, though, more and more solid tumors of many types have become survivable each year.
Give that boy a big hug for me, and you two look forward to your next 60 or 70 years together, if *you* last that long.
Question: Is there a correllation between kidney stones, gallstones, and any type of cancer? A little background. I'm 20, female, healthy and active. I have had kidney stones since I was 18, and I currently have a 17mm gallstone in my gallbladder (first time). I've had moderate to severe localized abdominal pain. I had an ultrasound about 2 weeks ago and it said I have a gallstone and that my liver looked "okay" (what my dr. said.). My pain: my back, obviously my gallbladder and kidneys, and pain occasionally in my loins. I also had some blood work done, and it said that my urine had a little blood (my period did not start until 2 days later) and that there was bacteria present. I've had Urinary Tract Infections before, so I know that that wasn't it. Please help.
Answer: There can be. They are usually familial. Called MEN syndromes. Also you may wish to have your DR. Make sure your calcium levels are normal and also ask what kind of kidney stones they were? Hope this helped.
Question: Brain cancer and kidney stones? My mother died at the age of 49 from a brain tumor. My sister has told me the brain surgeon who worked with my mother said her type of tumor is very common in her female off spring -- and my sister also said that those prone to kidney stones are at a much higher risk of brain cancer. I am 47 and continually have kidney stones (up to 10 a year at times) I began getting kidney stones almost 20 years ago. I also tend to get 'cysts' or benign growths in my body that have to be surgically removed. How frightened/concerned should I be? As an aside -- I never know when my sister is tellling me the truth --
Answer: I am an ER nurse and kidney stones are a common ailment among my patients. I have Never heard the correlation between kidney stones and brain tumours. Check out MedWeb online...they have a lot of info about kidney stones. Obviously, a lot of time has passed since your mom died so probably her physician is not available to ask...but, you should make an appt. to discuss these concerns with your personal physician. Also, neurosurgery is an evolving field. What your mom's doctor may have thought to be fact back then may have been proved wrong over the years. Talk to your own doctor. Since you have had so many kidney stones I'm sure you've been seeing a urologist. He/she would know.
Question: what should I know about this type of cancer? A guy I know and love has Lymphoid cancer with sepsus and kidney failure. Does anybody know anything about this?
Answer: Which type of Lymphoid malignancy does he have and what is the stage of the disease?

Question: How are cancer screenings done? My dad's mother died of kidney cancer. My dad's father died of throat/skin cancer. My father has lung cancer & is in the hospital waiting to be put on hospice. Everyone is telling me that I need to start being screened for cancer, and I totally agree with them seeing as though cancer obviously runs in my family. I'm not really sure how to go about getting this done. Do I contact my family doctor & will he point me in the right direction? Or is there a special doctor I need to contact? And how are these screenings done? Will I need to get several screenings for the different types of cancer? Or will one test screen for everything?
Answer: Less than 10% of all cancers are hereditary and none of the cancers you listed are related, so it is very unlikely cancer runs in your family.
We only have screening exams for a handful of cancers and there is a separate exam for each one. Which ones you need depends on your age and gender. Your primary care physician will tell you which ones you need and will direct you to the correct specialist.
