Liver Cancer Research
Question: Why should liver cancer research and treatment be funded?
Answer: Hi H Logic
We shouldnt be financing any cancer research with drugs, surgery, or chemo involved. THere are plenty of other options to help assist people overcoming disease. Here is a good article on CANCER is BIG BUSINESS.
"The National Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society have misled and confused the public and Congress by repeated false claims that we are winning the war against cancer -- claims made to create public and Congressional support for massive increases in budgetary appropriations." Dr. Epstein MD
For the first time, the American public will find out the truth behind the much-acclaimed "War Against Cancer" in a thoroughly documented expose of the policies and priorities of the cancer establishment -- the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the American Cancer Society (ACS). "THE POLITICS OF CANCER Revisited"challenges misleading claims that we have "turned the tide against cancer" and shows how the establishment is largely responsible for losing the winnable war against cancer. With equal accuracy and vigor, the book provides vital information -- long ignored or trivialized by the cancer establishment -- on a wide range of avoidable causes of cancer and on how readers and their families can protect themselves against cancer.

Question: Research: Liver Cancer? Can anyone tell me of the detailed personal effects of liver cancer on them?
Answer: I can tell you my mums experience with this desease. She firstly started with colon cancer and then spread to her liver. My mum always used to eat quite well but when she started chemo her appetite went completely. From the beginning she knew that her desease was terminal. She quickly started losing weight and eventually her abdomen started swelling due to her liver getting enlarged. Also she was always very sleepy and quite weak. She took vitamins and also she was prescribed some vitamin milkshakes as she was not eating properly. This type of cancer is usually terminal as normally it is a secondary cancer, this means that there is cancer in another place of the body. My mum was given 6 months to live but my mum survived a year and 5 months as her will to live was so strong. Sadly my mum lost her battle to cancer on the 27 May 2006.
Question: My dad was diagnosed with liver cancer...need advice? My dad was diagnosed with liver cancer. He already has diabetes and severe liver cirrhosis. He is 63 years old. We have seen a variety of cancer specialists. They all pretty much say the same thing, my dad is in a really tough position - where they can't help him. Anything they could do would kill him. Right now he is home on hospice and I stay there a lot to help take care of him. His energy levels are depleting quickly and I don't know what to do. He can barely get out of bed most the time, uses a wheel chair when he does, and gets tired just talking. What should I do? Is there anything I can do to help get him some energy back? Should I continue to pursue cancer research programs for him as a last resort? Can alternative medicine be taken seriously in his condition and how? Are these all signs he is going to die sooner than later? I am scared and I do not know if I should just except that he is dying or aggressively search for answers despite what the doctors are saying. Any advice?
Answer: well, i certainly sympathize with you. i lost an aunt that was very close to me last december due to inoperable liver cancer, and i spent a lot of time taking care of her and being with her. you probably don't want to hear this, and it is very hard, but if the docs say there is not much they can do, and hospice (my wife has been a hospice nurse also) is coming in, then you should try and accept the inevitable, as hard as that will be. at this point, there really isn't any treatment that will make a lot of difference, and i would guess that you wouldn't want your father subjected to any more than he can endure at this point. i know, it is scary, and his energy levels are going to diminish as time goes by. talk with the hospice nurse, if you have a good one, they can be a big comfort, not only to your father, but to you and your family as well, that's what they are there for. make sure the nurse keeps you informed, so you know what to expect, and what you can do for him. if she, or you, feels he is in pain, have the doc prescribe something for him. be there for him, and let him know you love him, as i'm sure you do, no matter how hard it is on you. even though he is ill, cherish the moments you and him will have. i'm sorry that i can't offer more help than this, and will keep you in my prayers.
Question: Comitris for liver cancer? My mother has primary liver cancer, I am researching some alternatives to her Nexavar treatment. Have anyone heared about or used Comitris ? It is shark cartilage extract . Please tell me is it really good? can it help?
Answer: I have never heard of this but I tried to search for info and could only find sites and companies that were selling it. Which tells me it is not proven, there may not be any legit research and may not have any effect on the cancer.
Best I can tell you is keep seraching for info and talk to the doc.
Question: How can I raise money for a cause? I am running two half marathons and want to get patrons to sponsor me and I am hoping to send the money for colon and liver cancer research, will I need to get a lisence to do this, or is it okay to just go door to door to ask people?
Answer: Certainly check with city or local government first.
Question: my father was just told he is teminally ill with liver cancer? I have done a little research but still do no know much about what is going on. He went to the hospital by ambulance on aug 11th. He was all bloated up and in extreme pain so he dialed 911. The first thing they did was drain 2 liters of fluid off of his abdomen and then did several cat scans, ultrasound and various test. They came into today and said that he has a mass in his livers and nodules and that he has liver cancer and it is terminal and at most he has a year. He is over an hour away and i have went to the hospital several times but was unable to be their today to speak with the docters. His mind still seems to be clear but he is in extreme pain and wont eat much. I dont even know where to start with taking care of him. He is an addict ( crack cocain and alcholol) and gets a small check from the va that goes to pay for a small apartment in crack head central, Does anyone know how long you have once they start having to drain fluid (they are doing it again in the morning and said he would have to go to the va about once a week to have it done). And does anyone have any advice on how to take car of him?
Answer: EAT WELL.....DON'T DRINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Question: Stage IV Breast Cancer....Met. to liver? Hello Everyone, I have been researching a lot about breast cancer today because I have it.
This is what I have
Stage iV Met. Breast Cancer
4 infected nodes
2 tumors.....1) 3cm 2)1cm
Cancer cells on LIver but not a tumor
HER2/pos.
I am on my first round of CMF chemotherapy, and I take Herceptin every three weeks.
Everything I find on the internet isabout having 12-24 months to live. My onocologist has never said anything about my life being that short. I know there is a chance that I won't beat this, espeically if it spreads anywhere else......it was caughter earlier then one thinks, the spread anyway, cause I had a misscarriage and they said the higher hormones when I was pregnant is when it started to spread......
Any information or any websites where there is info on surviours would be great. Thanks.
Answer: There are statistics and there are individuals. You're one of the individuals and the numbers you find are not rules you have to live by, they are what other people have experienced.
Perhaps your oncologist thinks your situation is better than that of the people in those studies you have read.
Have a look at the Herceptin news.
Question: What caused my husband's cancer?-Plastics in microwave oven? My husband died on metastatic-to-the-liver malignancy (cancer stage 4) twenty days later after he was diagnosed. Because it was too quick, we didn’t even know what caused his cancer. He was just 42 years old, very healthy, no smoking, no drinking, exercised regularly.
He was a scientist. Every night after dinner, he took a nap between 8-10:00pm, and got up to work on his research paper until 2:00 am, he did it almost every night. So people said he stayed up too late and he was always very stressful, which caused his cancer. I thought so too until yesterday.
Yesterday, when I talked to my friend, I realized I did something very wrong when I heat food in microwave oven. I always wrap food like pizza or plain bread (no fat at all) in saran wrap, sandwich bag or even freezer storage bag and put in microwave oven for 30 seconds or so at least three times a week and I never thought maybe it causes cancer! !! But most of those food were just plain bread (no fat or anything else except flour, yeast, a little bit sugar and baking soda)
Last night I didn’t get any sleep because I thought there is a very strong possibility that I killed my husband because of those stupid plastic stuff. I really don’t know what to do. If it’s true, I don’t even know how I can live peacefully for the rest of my life. I don’t know how to keep peaceful while I still need to raise my 5-year-old son.
So, what caused my husband’s cancer? Can anybody give me a clue? Does anybody have the same experience? Even your answer is that what I did was wrong is fine with me. I just need to know the answer.
My husband got his PhD in cancer and his post-doctor research was cancer as well back to almost 12 years ago. But since then, there was no any cancer research involved.
Now I know that heating food in plastic is so wrong, but is it really the cause of my husband’s cancer? I started to use those plastic stuff in microwave oven almost four years ago, and since most of those food are for his lunch, he ate those wrapped food at least as twice more than I had.
Maybe he got cancer from his previous work somehow?
Please help me find it out. If you know a scientist or a doctor or a researcher who really knows these things please let me know.
By the way, Doctor said the primary malignancy is pancratic, gallbaladder or gastrointestinal malignancies.
know.
Thanks to you all. You gave me not only the answer of my question, but also the direction of my life. I feel much relief now.
Answer: It is difficult to know what effect the plastic had on the food, but the microwave energy alters the food in a negative way. I had lunch with the man who developed the first microwaves when he was working for Hoffman Electronics. He does NOT have a microwave in his house. EMF (electromagnetic frequencies) encode organic matter. It causes "embeds" that affect the way nutrients are up regulated to cells. Proteins are especially vulnerable to these problems.
I threw away my microwave and do not eat any food that has been microwaved based on what I now know how it alters our food. I believe you can say that it was contributory, but not the reason for the cancer directly. 99% of ALL Cancer is from infection(s) in the body. This is a controversial statement and you will find many who disagree, but we now know that there are many bacteria and parasites that do NOT show up on typical lab tests and are causing many so called autoimmune diseases, etc. Biofilms protect these and other bacteria that are causing many cancers.
Medical science has proven NOT to be good at dealing with cancer. Instead of looking for the "root causes," it is typical for these guys to go after the cancer itself, ignoring the "root cause," infection. Bad dental work, toxic colon, toxic organs that is caused by bad diet, chemical exposures, electromagetic fields, etc. are a major contributor to creating the infections that cause this problem.
I would NOT beat myself up wondering about this because there are many things that could have caused the problem. I'm sorry to hear about your loss and feel bad for you. Don't blame yourself, blame the food and agricultural industries first, and then drug companies that ignore things that do not bring them high profits and focus on cures that are NOT solving the cancer problems.
EDIT: "Beau Gus" --- Sorry to tell you sir, but I have years of research and experience in this issue and it is you who have NO scientific basis for your opinion. You have obviously been "ENDOCTRINATED" by people or companies that have put their personal agenda's ahead of health and profit has driven the industry now for years. All you have to do is look at the statistics in a way that is NOT being manipulated by the agendas that are so prevalent in the so called professional communities today. You definitely need to free yourself from the lies you believe. I noticed that you have an opinion with NO facts listed. Where are your facts?
good luck to you
Question: is it true, alcohal is a cancer cause for women? Ladies, a glass of wine a day may increase your chances of developing cancer.
According to Cancer Research UK, a drink a day causes 7,000 cancer cases - primarily breast cancer - in the United Kingdom each year.
The risk increases with consumption, the information pulled on a million women implies. Overall, alcohol causes 13% of breast, liver, rectum, mouth and throat cancers. They guess that 5,000 breast cancer cases in the UK can be accredited to alcohol consumption.
The study reviewed women who had a low to moderate intake of alcohol: three drinks a day or less. In the seven-year study, available in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, a quarter reported consuming no alcohol.
About 70,000 of the women diagnosed with cancer had a pattern connected to alcohol consumption. Having one drink a day can increase the chance of contracting cancer by 6% in women.
Lead author Dr Naomi Allen from the University of Oxford, says that "the findings of this report show quite strongly that even low levels of drinking that were regarded to be safe do increase cancer risk.”
"About 5% of all cancers in the UK are due to drinking something in the order of one alcoholic drink a day."
She noted that there is bewilderment about the amount that people should drink. Red wine is supposedly good for the heart.
"It is up to individual people to make their own decision. All of us to some extent have to weigh up the risks and take some responsibility for our health," said Allen.
A Department of Health spokesman said: "We keep our guidance on sensible drinking under review. We currently advise on a lower risk drinking limit and that drinking above this level could be harmful.”
"There is no completely safe level of drinking but this lower level reflects the known risks including breast cancer, which is partly why there is a lower drinking limit for women,” they added.
"We look forward to examining this research in more detail."
Dr Sarah Cant of Breakthrough Breast Cancer said: "We already know that drinking alcohol can increase your risk of breast cancer.”
"This study suggests that for women over 50 even drinking moderate amounts of any type of alcohol can have many health consequences, including a greater chance of developing breast cancer. Around 80% of breast cancer cases are diagnosed in women aged over 50, so limiting how much you drink is one step you can take to try to reduce your risk of developing the disease,” Cant said.

Answer: Well obviously, since theres an article about it.
Question: liver lesion and blood tests? my mom had a blood test done a few months back and the results showed something wrong with her liver. my mom has had arthritis since her 20s and has had numerous joint replacement surgeries. she is on steady pain medication and so they thought it was all the medication taking its toll.
fast forward. she was having an attack that sounded like it might be her gall bladder and so she went in to have an ultrasound. while they did in fact find gall stones they also found a lesion on her liver.
she is going back in tomorrow for a more thorough cat scan on her liver and i am worried. most of the research i have done shows that benign lesions on the liver are common and usually nothing to worry about, however, these people also had normal blood tests.
my question is if anyone out there with medical knowledge can let me know if her blood test showed damage to her liver does this increase the chances that it is cancerous?
i know there is no way for anyone to tell me "your mom is fine" or "your mom has liver cancer"
but any personal stories or medical advice would be appriciated.
i am just scared. my mom's mom was diagnosed with breast cancer at the same age my mom is now. she lost her battle at 59. i have also lost both of my dad's parents to cancer so i do not take it lightly.
i'm not ready to even think about losing my mom.
Answer: First let me say I am sorry to hear about your mother going through a rough patch right now. Ok so they found a lesion on your mothers liver that does not necessarily mean that it is cancer.
I myself had an ultrasound done on my abdomen a few years ago due to random shooting pains I would get every now and then. While my bladder was normal they found a lump/lesion on my kidney. Granted I had normal blood work numbers (creatine levels were normal) but it really worried me none the less. I had a CT scan performed on my abdomen and they fount it just to be a cyst (dromedary hump) which is a normal variant.
I am not saying that absolutely nothing is wrong with your mother, but it could be an illness less threatening than cancer. Do not work yourself up until your mother has already received her results. I wish you and your mother the best of luck.
Question: introduction research paper..help pls.? im doing a research paper for my school req. my title is THE HARMFUL EFFECTS OF EXCESSIVE LIQUOR INTAKE TO THE LIVER
is my introduction correct?
Liquor is an alcoholic beverage that is capable of damaging the liver. Liver is the largest gland of the body and one of its most complex organs. The major functions are the production of bile by hepatic cells; the secretion of glucose, proteins, vitamins, fats and most of the other compounds used by the body.
Excessive liquor intake is one of the leading preventable causes of death worldwide. It affects our liver and may lead to liver diseases such as hepatitis, cirrhosis and liver cancer.
This study is being proposed to assess the harmful effects of drinking liquor to the liver; its causes and treatments and how it affects the liver when liquor is ingested in our body system.
Answer: Hi, Xeno !
My very best guess is that what you have is one introductory paragraph and I would just change it a bit, perhaps like this -
Liquor is an alcoholic beverage that is capable of damaging the liver, which is the largest gland of the body and one of its most complex organs. Its major functions are the production of bile by hepatic cells and the secretion of glucose, proteins, vitamins, fats and most of the other compounds used by the body. Excessive liquor intake is one of the leading causes of preventable death worldwide, affecting our livers and leading to liver diseases such as hepatitis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. This study is being conducted in an attempt to assess the harmful effects of excessive drinking of liquor on the liver, the problems that it creates and treatments required when the liver is affected by liquor which is ingested into our body systems.
Question: for people in Michigan - cashing in soda cans...? I will be moving back to MI shortly and I was wondering about something...how many cans can you take in to a store to cash in at one time....if it's for a worthy cause as opposed to personal use..can you cash in a few more? I realize this sounds stupid but just last week my aunt died of liver cancer..she lived in michigan most of her life in a little town called Three Oaks...I've decided to start a fundraising project that I want to take as many soda cans as I can and cash them in( I know it won't be a lot) and at the end of the fundraising period donate that money to cancer research.
Answer: Most places allow you to take up to $25 at a time in. However, some places (like most Meijers) will allow you to bring in more at a certain time if it is a fundraiser. Call the grocery store and ask to speak to a manager to set up a date and time. Good luck!
Question: Why is flue pollution added to our drinking water? The flue gas scrub water from fertilizer plants are added directly into municipal water supply systems under the guise of adding fluoride. The toxic chemical waste water would cost about $5,000.00 per truck load to dispose of safely, but in the US, it is sold to municipalities and diluted with our drinking water. Most European countries do not add "fluoride" and other flue contaminants to their drinking water.
The US has been through this propaganda war before with lead in gasoline and the dangers of asbestos and tobacco consumption.
Don't you think that Colgate should be worried about future litigation because of its funding of biased pro fluoride research?
The addition of fluoride to drinking water is considered a success story at the federal government. However, rates of HCC liver cancer tripled between 1975 and 2005. It increased from 1.6 to 4.9 cases per 100,000 persons. This cancer is rare, but it is easy to cause this cancer by adding fluoride to the water of laboratory rats. Neurological effects have been found in rats at low levels of only 5 parts per million. Drinking water is at about 1 part per million fluoride.
How can the government collude with industry to make its population drink industrial waste products instead of disposing of them safely?
My sister is dying from this rare cancer, and I believe it is due to her exposure to fluoride and mercury as a dental assistant over a 30 year career.
Why do we allow flue pollution in our drinking water?
Who said anything about power plants? Flue waste water from fertilizer plants ends up in our drinking water along with lead and fluoride. Aluminum manufacturing, and uranium enrichment also produce fluoride. You appear to be a bit narrow minded.
Source: "The Fluoride Deception"
What's your source? Bigotry?
Answer: isn't it obvious it s working for pharmaceutical companies benefit..more sick and more depended to medicine is more merrier
Question: Ban on Stem Cell Research Funding Lifted. Break out the Champagne? Obama today lifted the 8 year ban on federal funding for stem-cell research by executive order. Given the headlines I thought this would be a good time to resurface the (friendly) debate.
I read the book by Ian Wilmut and Keith Campbell almost 10 years ago- about Dolly the sheep, about biomedical research, and about it's promises. Here is my argument supporting stem cell research.
Do you know anyone with one or more of the following?
Parkinsons, Alzheimer's diseases, spinal cord injury, stroke, burns, heart disease, diabetes, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, leukemia, lymphoma, liver disease, cancer, multiple sclerosis, brain disease, blindness, deafness, HIV, or aids?
Studies show these can all be treated or even cured using stem cell treatment. Recently, there are reports of a low-cost procedure to -cure- heart attacks using stem cells (see link below).
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-415156/Stem-cell-cure-heart-attacks.html
What's more important? The survival of an embryonic cell or the survival of the boy in the article below? His fatal disease was -cured- using stem cells.
http://articles.latimes.com/2008/jun/07/science/sci-stem7
Some individuals say killing embryonic cells is equivalent to murder- but by that logic don't I commit mass murder every time I sneeze, or scratch my arm, as both actions kill millions of cells?
Shane- read the title of my question- i am not misinformed. You just are'nt reading the question
Answer: I'm breaking out the champagne for A LOT of things he's done this short week. Good for him. People who are against stem cell research are more commonly misinformed on what it is and don't understand the science of it. I hope we get some good results from this research soon because it's been a LONG time coming.
And yes bush didn't ban the research but he banned federal funding which is how a lot of companies and researchers get their money. So it did put a HUGE damper in being able to research and having pharmacy companies even wanting to try. Again some people don't know what they are talking about.
Anyway, Hooray Obama!
Question: Where can lung cancer spread to? Does it spread to the bones or liver, kidneys, what??? I can't find any research on it and i could really use the info. My aunt has lung cancer and I really want to find out more about it. Please help!
Answer: Lung cancer can spread anywhere, but the most common places are lymph nodes, liver, lung, bone, brain and adrenal glands. If the tumor has spread to the lymph nodes but none of the other locations, there still are potentially curative treatments. Unfortunately, once it's spread beyong the lymph nodes it's usually considered incurable. However, with improving drugs for chemotherapy hopefully survival rates will continue to improve.
I hope your aunt will be OK, and hopefully this information can help you support her during this difficult time.
Question: Does anyone know of any alternative remedies for severe atopic eczema? My friend has this condition mainly on the face and neck.
Her doctor wants her to take the immunosuppresant - Azathioprine but after doing some research and finding out what the possible side effects are such as liver failure, kidney failure, cancer etc she has refused this medication.
Her doctor has now told her that there is nothing else he can do for her.
She has been extreamly distraught today over her doctor's prognosis.
Can anyone suggest any other alternatives?
She has already tried Chinese herbal remedies and acupuncture.
If anyone else suffers from this condition, can you please tell me how you cope with it because she is at her wits end and says that she can't take anymore.
Thank you
She avoids dairy products and only drinks soya milk.
Answer: sorry to hear about this. my eldest son also suffers like you say but his body is fully covered. (he is registered disabled because of this)
we have been on the cyclosporin immunesupressent since nov06 and recently came off it. he didnt react to it as he should of or as the docs said he would do.(we had to go for weekly check ups at hospital while on the immunesuppresent)
am afraid to say we have tried all kinds of alternative treatment but not have found any that helps as my lad suffers from alot of allergies we are limited what we can try.
everyone reacts differently to different treatments including cream etc... so what might work for one wont work for the other.
has she been tested for allergies?.....dairy allergy plays a big part in eczema it is very common and can make eczema worse, plus other allergies.
it is a difficult thing to live with as it impaires way off life.
there is no easy route with this or any quick fix treatment, sorry i havnt been much help but i hope she finds something that works soon.
we also have come to the end of the road as treatment is concerend because the immunesuppresent didnt work.
