Lung Cancer Center
Question: Lung Cancer? Does anyone know what the best lung cancer treatment hospital / specialist / center is in the world? Are doctors and hospitals rated on their performance? Is there a site that grades different specialties?
Answer: http://www.cancercenter.com/
Question: what are some signs about lung cancer towards the end? well, my best friend had breast cancer 2 years ago. now they told her she had stage 4 lung cancer. it's in both lungs large tumors a small.she looks good and feels good. she's going to issel's cancer center in ca. very expensive. a natural cures center. she has the money it's not a problem. she leaves for ca. sunday for four weeks. i'll miss her alot. she's my running buddy. what i want to know is what should i expect later on down the road? her dr. gave her a year to live. with chemo 2 yrs. she had such a terrible time with chemo she doesn't want to have it again. all she has is a small cough once in a while. thank you very much. she has no family here. her stepmother and niece live in southern il. both have health problems. thanks boop
Answer: I am going to be very honest with you... I lost my mom a few years back to cancer due to cigarettes and it was a very hard time for not only me but my father as well....We were fortunate {if you can call it that} because her cancer went straight up into her spinal column and found her brain...She passed on three weeks later not having to go through the extreme pain associated with the disease
I could recount for you all of the symptoms and her rapid deterioration but I prefer not to
I believe very strongly in trying to remember my mother for her life she had and the life that she gave to so many others ... She was my stepmom but in her eyes I was her child and in return I tried everything I could to make her proud
When she needed me I was there... The job that I had working construction took a backseat- and when they told me I could not go I left anyway
two hundred bucks and a bus ticket home {my truck was in a shop at that time and I left that behind as well}
I was home for the whole year being there for her for all those times she had been there for me- and the final three weeks we {my father and I} never left her side in the terminal ward at the hospital {my father had to work, but since I was without a job I could stay with her at all times-- and I did without a moment's hesitation}
Those times were the hardest and will always be a part of me-- not only in mind but heart ...her suffering was my pain {and worse that there was nothing that I could do but watch}
You do not want to know the final days or what will happen to this person that you care for...
remember her life and that life that she shared with you
cherish those moments -

Question: cancer centers in Germany (for lung cancers)? Hello guys, I was looking around for international major Cancer Centers, and I know the USA and Germany are the leaders in this field, I know the Anderson M.D in Texas is the best in the US, but I have no idea about Germany so I would appreciate it if someone informed me on where to go in germany.
many thanks in advance.
Plz anyone?
Answer: I know a University Clinic in Munich which is an excellent Clinic.
It also has an Oncology Department. They do research on various types of cancer. (Not exactly sure on Lung cancer, but you can check it) .
I am a patient there for Lymphoma.
It´s a famous Clinic and It is called:
Ludvig-Maximilians-Universität München,
Klinikum Grosshadern.
Question: Dad was just diagnosed with lung cancer...? My dad just got home from getting a biopsy done tonight and he has lung cancer. The doctor said that it is in the early stages and they are going to be removing part of his lung. It is only in his left lung not the right. He quit smoking 2 and 1/2 months ago. I dont know if it is small cell or non small cell cancer. He is going to be treated at Dana Farber Cancer Center in Boston. I was wondering what are the survival rates for this?
Answer: By early stages you mean...no metastasis correct?
If small cell w/ metastasis = very poor prognosis (~5% in 5 years survive)
All others have average prognosis (~60% survive in 5 years).
Question: Mother-in-law diagnosed with lung cancer with brain mets.!!!! Told only 9 months to live!!!? Yes, I am a nurse but I am at a loss on this one. We just lost my mother, April 9th, 2006, when I was pregnant for our now 5 month old little girl to the same dreaded disease. We have gone 5.5 hours one way to Sloan Kettering Cancer Center just to be told there is nothing we can do except treat her symptoms as they approach. She has 23 spots on her lungs and 7 in her brain. She is still functioning normally with headaches all the time. I feel awful because I asked a question about her earlier (see my profile) and now find out that the way she is acting may not be her fault. She is a wonderfully nice person and deserves every chance we can give her. We are on our way to Syracuse on the 25th. I have started taking our daughter to daycare so I can overtake her job doing the complete body shop office work and I make it my job to make appointments for her and to go with her so she understands. See she has only a 8th grade education. Has anyone heard of treatment for this?
Answer: my husband has also been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and was told he might have only 6 to 9 months to live. it`s been one year now since his diagnoses and he is still playing tennis every day! his cancer spread from one lung to the other and primary tumor is 6,5cm. two chemotherapys failed he is now on a drug call Tarceva which seems to keep cancer from getting worse. one thing i have to tell you is at the beginning of the diagnoses he was feeling much worse than he does a year on. since then he cut out all sugar(cancer feeds on sugar), all dairy products drinks carrot and apples juice every day, drinks green tea, eats lots of vegetables(especially cabbage and brocolie which really benefits lung cancer), exersises every day even if its just 15 min(tumors don`t like oxygen). doctors are telling him he must be doing something right as he is in best condition for stage four cancer patient they have ever seen. another very important thing is to be positive. it has been proven that people who are positive live much longer. the best treatment for lung cancer is Tarceva it works even better for women then men but its not easy to get it on NHS.
good luck!
Question: My mother was just diagnosed with an aggressive type of lung cancer; baby brother is in Iraq. Can he come home? He just joined up this summer. My mother doesn't want us to tell him, because he is over there and it might just worry him; also he has not been in long and she doesn't want to cause him any trouble. Has anyone else experienced this, and what will the military do?
My brother is much younger than us and the only boy; to my mother, he is he center of the universe. I'm not sure what to do.
Nazgul; she has small cell also.
Answer: Call the Red Cross. They are the go between of family and the military. Someone there could give you some good advice. He will not get in trouble. His mother is gravely ill, and he is the only son. He may be able to come home on leave, or the Red Cross will keep him apprised of her condition. Ask them what you should do. I know you don't want to worry him, tell them that and see what they say.
Question: Cancer Treatment Center in Philly, PA? I am refering to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Philadelphia PA. Has anyone been there or know someone who has? If so, what did you think of it? Would you recomend it? Father in law has stage 3 lung cancer, metastised to liver, now the liver is growing, I don't feel very confident in the care he is currantly getting in our small town. In three months time liver has grown from 2cm to 6cm, his doctor is now giving him more chemo, but has given him 3 months to live. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Answer: I have not heard anything about these facilities other than the heavy advertising they do on television.
You should check to see if they are accredited or approved as a cancer center. Most cancer centers should have accredition or standards program in place.
How to locate Approved Cancer Programs
http://web.facs.org/cpm/default.htm
Accredited National Cancer Center Facilities by name or state:
http://cancercenters.cancer.gov/cancer_centers/cancer-centers-names.html
There is also a Joint Commission that investigates patient safety and quality standards for each facility.
Quality Check

Good luck.
Added: I asked a young lady who has the same type of rare sarcoma that my son has about the Cancer Treatment Center and she said that they would not accept her as a patient because of the rareness of her disease.
She does not recommend them.
Question: Small Cell Lung Cancer? My Aunt Cathy has small cell lung cancer and went through treatment for it. She was in remission briefly but it has come back. There is a cancer treatment center says that there is a chance that she may live, but she needs to raise alot of money. I am trying to spread the word but I can't seem to find any good forums in which to do so. Does anyone know of a good place or two?
Also, her MySpace is: www.myspace.com/fighting4life2008
Answer: If it is Cancer Treatment Center of America then be aware that they are a for profit hospital and they want well insured patients that need extensive treatment. This does not mean CTCA is your aunt's best choice of a hospital, just the one with the most advertising.
Small cell lung cancer is a very aggressive cancer and acts just as you have described. The prognosis is poor once chemotherapy begins to fail. She has two choices, neither of which are probably what you want to hear. She can stay near her home and get any additional treatment that will prolong life without causing your aunt too much discomfort and at the same time be preparing to get hospice involved - or - plan on going to a major comprehensive cancer hospital (as designated by the NCI) and get further treatment there. These hospitals would take Medicare coverage as payment. She might be a candidate for clinical trials but most likely their results will not be much better than what is available locally assuming she lives in a city with a large hospital. Her choices aren't good but if it was me I would rather be close to home and near my family rather than away from home and stuck for long periods of time in a strange hospital or hotel. I guess some of her decision depends on where she lives, how far she would have to travel and how much desire she has to keep trying additional treatments that might be very uncomfortable. Either way she goes, she will be in my thoughts.

http://www.hospicenet.org/html/preparing_for.html
I went to her MySpace page and read her history. I'm afraid it was much as I suspected. It is unfortunate that CTCA would try to give false hope to a lady at a time when she was so vulnerable and desparately grasping for hope. Small cell lung cancer is not particularly rare and CTCA has no secret treatment regimen. CTCA facilities are often quite small when compared with the facilities of a major NCI hospital like the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center at Northwestern which is located fairly close to your aunt. CTCA makes their money with their aggressive advertising campaigns and not with any secret cures they have available. Sure they can give good quality treatment but it is no better or different than the care available at many other high quality hospitals. There are many other hospitals, larger hospitals, that are actually doing very high quality cutting edge research into treating SCLC. These are not hospitals run for profit.
If your aunt wants further treatment then she should inquire about treatment or the clinical trials available at Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center rather than enriching people that are selling her false hope. A quick search using your aunt's zipcode showed 14 NCI clinical trials for SCLC very close to your aunt and 31 when you widened the search area. This was a very preliminary search so I am sure there are many other clinical trials available if you searched all of her available opportunities. Here is one of several places that I would contact for checking out various options.
University of Chicago Cancer Research Center

good luck to your aunt, her family and yourself
Question: Stage four hip and lung cancer.? hi, my grandma has Stage 4 lung cancer and hip cancer.
She has had lung cancer before in 2000 i think. She had 3/4 of her left lung removed. The cancer has returned. It returned around the middle of october. The cancer is only on the 25 percent of her left lung.
The hip cancer was more progressed than we thought because we did not catch it at first because we thought it was arthritis. She had started radiation and one day she stood up and her hip collapsed. she fell down and broke her hip and shoulder.
Right now the cancer in her hip has spread to her pelvic. Sometimes she talks kinda crazy. She doesn't know what she is saying. Right know she is uncontrollably twitching. (not bad mostly in her feet and arms) She is bed bound. Today we were told that we would not be doing kimo. That it would not effect the cancer. She has a appointment with cancer treatment center of america. She has not started kimo but has had i believe 16 radiation treatments on her hip.
Please tell me if there are ANY treatments availble or ANY places we could go.
she is 64 or 65
she is on quite a few meds but at this point she is taking to pain pills every two hours
(the docter is okay with it)
Answer: I agree with Aseem. Lung cancer most frequently spreads to brain and bone, and it's very hard to watch.
I'm a hospice nurse, just FYI. I do not like the dermal pain patches at all, especially for cancer patients. Pain can change rapidly, and the medication dose on these patches takes a long time to "catch up". There are better medication choices, in my opinion. Talk frankly about this with her doctor.
May her journey be comfortable, and yours too-- as you walk her to the gate of her next experience. We all pray for the best outcome possible in situations like yours.
Question: i had stage 3b smallcell lung cancer.it is now gone.can i proove i had it? was told i had smallcell squamous carsanoma in 02 and i would not live 6 months.15 months later was told by cancer treatment centers of america the toumor is gone.the first hospital chemo and radiated me and told me they were out of treatment options.i woundered if there is a way to proove for sure if i had it or didnot have this cancer.
Answer: You would need to get a hold of your medical records. Call the medical records dept of the hosp you were treated at. They may not release certain doc or surgeon notes, but will release all your tests results.
If you really had cancer, it will show in the test reports, though you may have to get the advice of someone in the medical field to interpet the results.
Also be aware you have to pay for your med records.
Question: Have you known someone that has survived Stage 3A non small cell lung cancer? My mom has adenocarcinoma non small cell, she had her left lobe removed with the tumor and the lympth nodes removed and one was found in the center of her chest to be involved with the cancer. She is recovering very nicely from the surgery and will start her chemo and radiation at the end of the month. I would love to know if anyone has had this or similar stage three cancer and survived longer than the three years that is the norm?
Answer: Baby girl they caught your mothers cancer early she has a good chance of recovery ....my fathers cancer was in the end stages and he passed I loved him very much and I miss him allot to ....Look at this web sight www.webmd.com and you can get allot of info from here.....Ill pray for you and your mom ...good luck.....
Question: My dad is a dr. and his friend is dying of brain and lung cancer? the man has about 5 days to live, refuses to eat or drink (hard to say since he can't speak), and is being pumped with morphine for the pain. my mother says that he should try to send him to the best cancer center, but he says that he might not have a chance. my dad has saved hundreds and hundreds of lives, has made people cancer-free, and given hope to thousands.... don't you think it would be right for him to try his best and to try and save one of his dearest friends? he has a total air head wife who is responsible for him, and she doesn't give two shits about him....
Answer: It sounds like he's past the point and should just be kept comfortable. Cancer does kill people even with the best care on the planet. If someone says that he's only got 5 days left, his organs are not doing their job and are probably too damaged to heal.
This is going to be hard on your Dad. If he could do something, he would. I'm sure he knows that pain relief is probably the only choice right now.
Don't be too hard on the wife. You don't know what she is going through right now and things are about to get really hard for her.
PS
If I'm dying, I hope I have someone like you and your Dad on my side.
Question: How 2 find good, reputable oncologist for friend just diagnosed with lung cancer? My friend just was diagnosed with an inoperable tumor in her lung. Her (1st opinion) doctor did a biopsy and says surgery is not an option even before doing the cat-scan that's still scheduled.
Her concern is trying to find a real reputable physician locally (Eugene, OR) that could see her right away and she can hear a second opinion.
Oregon Health Science Center is about 150 miles from Eugene and that would not be feisable, especially now.
So, I would like to find an oncologist she can see for a second opinion and I think she will also need that person to "lean" on, being she is very introverted to say the least.
I am doing the only thing I know that just might make what's left of her life a little easier.
thanks
Answer: She might want to consider a second opinion consult at OHSC and then have treatment in Eugene. Some important but time-limited procedures like surgery might be done better at the big center while chemotherapy and radiation could be done locally.
I apologize that I don't know the docs in Eugene or Portland since I practice in the East... but grew up in Keizer.
Aloha
Question: HELP!!!...looking for an excellent cancer center for a second opinion!!!? a very good friend of mine has been diagnosed with cancer in his lung...(along with another unrelated complication)...his family is talking about getting a second opinion...do you know of or have had good experience with a cancer center near the midwest (indiana)...of course hospitals anywhere in the us would also be good to know of as well...any help would be appreciated!!! thank you!!!
Answer: In the US the best cancer centers have been designated by the National Cancer Institute . . there are excellent centers in each state . . these cancer centers are among the best in the world and offer research as well as the newest treatment options. The designated comprehensive cancer centers share their research with each other. You can find a list of the comprehensive cancer centers at the NCI website:
http://cancercenters.cancer.gov/cancer_centers/cancer-centers-list.html
Some of the centers include Dana Farber in Boston, Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York, MD Anderson in Texas, etc
There is a comprehensive cancer center at the Indiana University:

Question: My Mom has Lung cancer, and I have some Serious Questions:? My Mom has had Cancer of the Lungs for about 2 years.
She's had Low-Power Keimo Therapy, High-Power Keimo Therapy, and she Just had 3 Weeks (With 5 days a Week) of Radiation Therapy.
She has 1 tumor in each of her Lungs. One of them is Blocking her Breathing on her Right side, and the Other on the Left Lung is not.
She just had her CAT-Scan done last week, and it shows that the Tumors have actually gotten larger!
She is in an Ordinary Hospital, and I feel that they are Taking Advantage of her, and not Helping her like they should!
Are there any Caner Treatment Center's in the Indianapolis Area?!?
She has gotten sick, too. She has broken-out with a Rash, and her Feet have just Recently swelled-up.
What is Happening here?!? Her Last Keimo Therapy was in February, and her last Radiation Therapy was just over a week ago.
She just got sick this weekend, and has had trouble keeping Food down.
What else on a Treatment Level can be Done?!?
Daniela, you have the Best Answer so Far!!
I don't know who has given you 4 negatives on your Vote Status, but I think they must be realy stupid!
Natural Cures are WAY Better than what a Burocracy-Hospital could possibly do for anyone!
Do you know Why I have Asked this Question?!?
It's becuase I don't Trust the Way that this Hospital is Treating my Mom!!
I mean, they come in, and say 'HI', but I can Read their Facial Expressions!
And they are ALL on an Agenda, just like ANY Work place that puts it's Agenda First!
Here is my Thoughts:
I think that the Hospital has taken Advantage of my Mom, just Because she has Lung Cancer.
There Mission isn't to Do everything to Get Rid of her Cancer. I think their Mission is to Capitalize the Most by continueing inaffective Treatments!!
She is Only getting Sick over this Radiation Treatment, and I'm about ready to Get On those Nerse's about How she is Being Treated for Cancer!!
And they don't even give us the Reason shes sick!
The Way my Mom is being Treated, is the Same Damn way some Asshole Mechanics diagnose an Engine problem!!
They start out First, by telling you it 'Probably needs this'.
Then they say 'Ok, that didn't work! We need to do This!'
Then, after wasted money on Mal-Repairs, they want to actually FIX the Problem the Right way, only if you pay them a Rediculous amount of money to take care of it!!
I feel like they're Hearts are Trash, because they care ALOT more about there Money, than actually doing the Right Thing for the Customer/ Patient!!!!
I bet that if my Mom quit drinking Coffie, started Eating and Drinking right, She could stay out of that Hospital, and Probably get Rid of her Cancer Completely!!
Answer: Have you spoken to her oncologist?
You are not giving any information to be able to answer you. What kind of cancer does she have? Is it one primary or two? What is the stage? Where the tumors ever removed? Cancer Treatment Centers of America is a for profit chain of hospitals that do not treat cancer differently than anywhere else. If you want her treated at a hospital designated as a cancer hospital you can check on the National Cancer Institute’s website.
Question: Have you read this testimony of ? Healed of Lung Cancer:Linda Lombardi? Linda Lombardi was healed of a spirit of Cancer when the brethren in our meeting rebuked it although she was not present. She related to us how that later that same night what looked like smoke came out of her nose and she knew she was healed. Here is her testimony. Please note that she had faith to be healed.
Dave,
My name is Linda Lombardi. I am writing to you as a request from a prayer group member to share how Jesus healed me from a potential deadly lung nodule. I want to tell you how Jesus touched my life.
Jesus healed me. These words are true beliefs that Jesus Christ heals those who ask and have faith. The beginning of my testimony started a day in January 2001. My doctor's office called to tell me I had an inconsistency on my chest x-ray and I needed to go to the hospital for another x-ray. The second x-ay was not any better than the first. A CT scan was ordered. The suspicious spot was a 10 cm nodule in the upper right lobe. That night after numerous Internet searches, I was devastated to learn most nodules are malignant. My father died of lung cancer in 1998 and I am very familiar with the disease. At this point I started to do a lot of praying. Even though I knew Jesus heard my prayer, I did not have peace yet.
The first of February, my doctor sent me to a pulmonary specialist. The first thing Dr. Wagner told me that I was not to worry. The surgeon would remove my lobe and I would not have to under go chemo or radiation. He started to ask questions about health, lifestyle, etc. The more we talked, he decided to wait and repeat the CT scan in two months,
At this point, I told Dr. Wagner that God would heal me. He did not say anything, but I am sure he thought I was deluded. I am a very quiet and reserved person. I usually do not share information of this nature with many people, however, the Holy Spirit prompted me to tell Dr. Wagner how Jesus would heal my lung.
I saw Bob in March and told him my predicament and as we talked, I asked his group to pray for my healing. I believed Jesus would heal me. This was a Tuesday. I did not see Bob during the week, but I KNOW his prayer group prayed for me on Saturday night. A peace that is beyond all understanding came over me Saturday night. During the middle of the night I saw an evil spirit leave my lungs and I KNEW I was healed.
As April arrived, it was time to repeat the CT scan. The doctor at the Imaging Center observed the entire scan. He reported the nodule was starting to calcify and in his opinion, the nodule is benign. Tears and praise flowed, as Jesus had healed me.
Dr. Wagner told me I was one lucky lady. I reminded him that Jesus would heal me. He did not acknowledge anything yet, but he knows that this healing was a miracle.
The whole point of this testimony is to witness to you that Jesus hears our prayers, He knows our pain, and honors His commitment to us when we believe Him and the works of His hands. I hope these words encourage and support you.
Your sister in Christ.
Linda
Linda then was encouraged to ask us to believe for her son who needed salvation, which we did, and he was saved the next day. Even though Terry was saved he was under powerful drugs because of a mental breakdown. He had been in a mental institution for four years. He came to our meeting and we suggested deliverance which he was agreeable to. We cast out several demons and he immediately felt a heavy weight lift from his shoulders. At that time we told him that he no longer needed the drugs because he was healed and delivered. He dropped all medication at that time and within days he was normal, functioning well, reading his bible and growing in God. At that time he had a flashback that brought a memory back which he had suppressed. He had been molested by a Catholic priest when he was a child and was threatened to not report it. This began demonic possession that brought him to a humbled estate so that he realized his need of a Savior. God works all things together for good. If this had not happened his success at business could have driven him far from any desire or need of God.
Dave
