Lung Cancer Information
Question: Need information on Lung Cancer for a school project. Best answer gets 10 points.? Where can I find info on Lung Cancer besides Wikipedia. Please give links only. The link with the most information on Lung Cancer will win the prize of 10 points!
Answer: What is cancer of the lung?
Cancer of the lung, like all cancers, results from an abnormality in the body's basic unit of life, the cell. Normally, the body maintains a system of checks and balances on cell growth so that cells divide to produce new cells only when needed. Disruption of this system of checks and balances on cell growth results in an uncontrolled division and proliferation of cells that eventually forms a mass known as a tumor.
Question: stage 4 lung cancer? information please....? my grandma has stage 4 lung cancer.
She had brain cancer to but they got all the cancer out of her brain
the operation was 2 days ago and it was successful now she has lung cancer stage four. it either spread from the lung to the brain or the brain to the lung but i think it was from the lung to the brain
the thing is stage four is the worst but today we asked the doctor if she is gonna die ..his response shocked us he said no tyour gonnab e fine tomorrow where gonna find out if the cancer the spread bc they found other spots but they said ti could juss be scars or plaque from smoking
does anyone know whats going on ?
Answer: Your grandma did not have brain cancer. She has stage for lung cancer that spread to her brain that is what stage 4 means. However, the rest of your question is a little confusing, as they already know it spread as it was found in her brain.
I’m not sure why the doctor told you she would be fine; maybe he was referring to surgical complications. Where you speaking to the oncologist or the surgeon? Be sure to get all of your information from the oncologist. Maybe your grandma doesn’t want the doctors to tell you how bad her condition is. They have to follow her wishes.
I was close to my grandma too. She died in 1995. I still miss her so much and I am WAY older than you. So I understand what you are going through and I don’t want to be mean, but if you are worried enough to come here and ask questions you need to know the truth. Stage 4 lung cancer is not curable. Doctors do everything they can to extend the patient’s life as much as possible, but they cannot save them. I’m so sorry.

Question: My mother has lung cancer, I need information.? My mother is 40 years old, is over weight, and has just had an upper right lobectomy. It has spread to the upper left lobe of her lung. The results are a low grade B cell lymphoma of BALT type cancer. I want someone who actually knows through research and knows a few websites for me to look at. If you find the prognosis and treatment for this please tell. If you have any other question about the case just ask and I'll tell you. I'm sitting here waiting for help. Thank you.
Answer: "The marginal zone of the B follicle represents a well-defined compartment of the B-cell area, a distinct cellular composition from that of the follicle center (follicular b-cells), from which it also differs in its functional role in the immune response."
B-cell stage: Mature (peripheral) neoplasms
Incidence: Marginal Zone NHL is a relatively uncommon type of b-cell lymphoma, comprising approximately 2-4% of all cases. There are about 61,000 new cases of NHL diagnosed annually. Therefore we calculate that there are approximately 1,000 to 2,300 new cases of marginal zone NHL diagnosed annually.
MZL/MALT are often infection-associated, antigen-driven:
"H. pylori, C. jejuni, B. burgdorferi, C. psittaci, and hepatitis C virus (HCV), which have been associated with gastric lymphoma, immunoproliferative small intestinal disease, cutaneous lymphoma, ocular lymphoma, and spleen lymphoma, respectively."

Question: Information About Lung Cancer? What are some Lung Cancer screening tests?
&
What are some Lung Cancer diagnostic tests?
Answer: A screening test is designed to screen a large number of people that may or may not be affected with cancer. Although there are good screening tests for certain cancers such as breast cancer (mammograms) and cervical cancer (pap smears), there are no proven screening tests for lung cancer in the general population, but there are studies looking at screening high-risk people. There are 2 screening tests that may prove to be useful in patients at a high risk of developing lung cancer, such as smokers or ex-smokers. This is still an area of research. The 2 tests are a chest xray and a CT scan of the chest every 6-12 months.
Diagnostic tests are designed to further investigate an abnormality once something is found. For example, if a spot is found on a chest x ray or a CT scan of the chest, this needs further work up using diagnostic tests. These tests can include further imaging studies such as PET scans or MRI scans, and often include biopsies, broncoscopies, and/or sputum samples.

Question: Nutritional information for friend with stage 3b lung cancer? My friend was diagnosed with stage 3b lung cancer. The Doctors are in the process of determining what treatment would work best, this treatment should start in 2 weeks. I wanted to know if there are specific foods that can keep her strong prior to starting treatment, and then for recovery. Thx!
Answer: Hi there,
We are going through this same thing right now with Mesothelioma. I highly recommend the book 'Beating Cancer with Nutrition" by Patrick Quillin. My dad started chemo and despite his onc. not agreing we decided to pursue nutritional support on top of the chemo. Even if it is only for the quality of life it is well worth it.
There are also many products/therapies out there worthy of research, eg. Ukrain, detoxification, oxygen therapy, etc
Also - for nutrition the easiest thing that your friend can start right away is juicing....raw vegetables....they have the highest levels of vitamins in the most natural ways. Juice every morning and mix with a little protein. Stay away from all non-essential fats and all sugars. Start detoxing as much as possible. A one day/week lemon/maple syrup/cayenne fast with a laxative tea or sea salt laxative work wonders in this area. (see here -> and here ->
Also, most important is the decision whether to undergo chemo/radio treatment or bypass altogether. My dad deteriorates on the second or third day after chemo and gets progressively worse from there - yet we go for an IV treatment (hoping the onc. is not reading this) and he has much more energy levels and appetite the following day.
Eating is probably the most important thing (nutritious eating) while undergoing treatment, sadly the treatment takes the appetite away. You have to force yourself to eat. Next in importance is supplementation - have him visit an alternative doc and do testing for body imbalances and micro, macronutrients --- go along with the supplements (my dad adds these in the morning to his juice and then just swallows the night pills).
Good luck
D,

Question: Is there a cure for lung cancer through alternative medicine? They just found a lump behind my breast bone in the lymph node, I'm waiting for petscan. Looking for any and all information connected with lung cancer cures and the statistics on the area where it is. What are my chances? All information will be greatly appreciated.
Answer: There are no known cures for lung cancer, sorry!
Question: How do you treat small cell lung cancer? My uncle was diagnosed a few weeks ago and the doctors told him it was supposedly the easiest to treat and that he had at least 5 years left to live. They also told him the cancer was inoperable and started him quickly on chemo. He's not taking any oral medicine. The information I have found on the internet says small cell is the hardest to treat and has the worst prognosis. Can anyone give me some information about small cell lung cancer and how to treat it?
Answer: Choosing a treatment plan
If you have small cell lung cancer, the main treatment will most likely be chemotherapy, either alone or with radiation. Very rarely, surgery might be done if it is limited stage cancer.
After the cancer is found and staged, your doctor will talk to you about treatment choices. Give yourself time to take in the information you have learned. The most important things to think about include the stage and type of cancer, your overall health, the likely side effects of the treatment, and the chance of curing the cancer or helping you live longer. Age alone should not keep you from having treatment.

Question: Lung Cancer? My mother in-law had breast cancer in 03 she under went the surgery and chemo treatments and was cancer free, so she thought she requested a PET scan as she works at the Cleveland Clinic and knows that they are very good at finding cancer cells. Her scan came back with finding a small cell in her lung; she had breast cancer in the right breast very aggressive type and now a spot in her left Lung she does not smoke. Now we wait and see if this is a new cancer cell or if this is metastasized from her breast cancer. Everything I have read only give a 5yr mark for life she has had no symptoms of lung cancer and this was very unexpected to find. Does anyone have and information on this type of cancer?
Answer: when i found out i had breast cancer i under went pet scans, ct scans, mri's, lung xrays, bone scans, the whole nine yards before any chemo was given. they did find 3 spots on my right lung and 2 on my left lung. then a biopsy was ordered to see if these spots were cancerous. fortunately it was just scar tissue from some type of infection. my cancer was found in my right breast also and very aggressive in the 3rd stage. chemo was given first and then surgery with reconstructive surgery (tram) and then radiation. Now I'm on tamoxifen for the next five years. They have my cancer in control and its not spreading. hopefully its just scar tissue that your mother in law is dealing with. my mother also had spots on her lungs but doesn't have any cancer, just scar tissue. Good luck, give her all the support you can she will need it and will appreciate all your help.
Question: Does anyone know of any Lung Cancer awareness events in Edmonton, Alberta Canada throughout the year? ? I would like to participate in something regarding lung cancer awareness this Spring or Summer in memory of my Father who just passed away this Christmas. I can't find any kind of information besides Breast Cancer Awareness... Lung Cancer is the number one killing cancer and the least (Research) funded.
Answer: I'm sorry to hear about your father. How nice that you want to do something positive in his memory.
I couldn't find anything for the Lung Association, but Cancer Society offices across Canada hold Relay For Life events every summer to honour cancer survivors and remember those who have succumbed to all types of cancer.
The links below contain (1) more information about the Relay and (2) dates and locations for Relay for Life events in Alberta.
I hope this is helpful.
Question: My Father has Lung Cancer with a metastasized Brain Tumor. Any information would be very helpful.? He has been battling the lung tumor for about 2 years. Recently it has grown to 8 cm. He is currently going through Chemo to try and shrink it down. We just found out he has a 2.6 cm tumor in his upper lobe portion of the brain. He will receive 15 consecutive radiation treatments for this. First question, is 2.6 cm tumor of the brain considered large? Second, has anyone had a similar experience? What should we expect? Please, don't "sugar coat" your answers. I want the straight truth, even if it’s not good news. Thank you.
Answer: At this point it sounds like Palliative Care. (end if life care) All they can probably do is try to make him and your family as comfortable as things can be and as things progress. All you can expect is progression of these diseases.Im not sure if that is considered large but probably a good size and its not good at all that it is in his brain. Cancer is a terrible thing and is very sad and difficult to deal with. Just try to be happy with the time you will have
