Answer: I can not stress enough that if a person thinks they have a major medical issue to make an appointment with their doctor immediately. Time is of the essence. Many medical problems can be cured if treated early. Time is your biggest enemy. In your case a dentist is not the doctor to consult on this matter. Make an appointment with a EENT physician very soon. If the EENT doc needs to he will get you a consult with a oncologist who specializes in oral cancers.
Question: Anybody know anything about Oral Cancer? I just found out recently that my grandma has stage 4 Oral Cancer.....is there anyone out there who has been through this with someone in their life that can give me some advice or a heads up on what to expect?
Answer: Mouth cancer refers to cancer that develops in any of the parts that make up the mouth. Mouth cancer can occur on the lips, gums, tongue, inside lining of the cheeks, and the roof and floor of the mouth.
Cancer that occurs on the inside of the mouth is sometimes called oral cancer or oral cavity cancer. Mouth cancer is one of several types of cancer grouped in a category called head and neck cancers. Mouth cancer and other head and neck cancers are often treated similarly.
In any cancer Stage 4 is a very advanced stage Stage 4 means - Any of the following may be true: The cancer has spread to tissues around the lip and oral cavity. The lymph nodes in the area may or may not contain cancer. The cancer is any size and has spread to more than one lymph node on the same side of the neck as the cancer, to lymph nodes on one or both sides of the neck, or to any lymph node that measures more than 6 centimeters (over 2 inches). The cancer has spread to other parts of the body.
Oral cancer is treatable and curable as long as the cancer is within the oral cavity or the lymph nodes of the neck. Once the cancer spreads to other parts of the body such as the lungs or lymph nodes of the chest, this no longer is a curable situation. Biopsy of the cancer has never been shown to cause spread to other parts of the body.
The prognosis (chance of recovery) for people with mouth cancer depends on where the cancer is in the lip or mouth. It also depends on whether the cancer is just in the lip or mouth or has spread to other tissues. The general health of the person with mouth cancer also is a factor. Oral cancer can be life-threatening if not diagnosed and treated early. -
Question: Cat diagnosed with oral cancer, how long can I expect to have left with him? I recently found out that my 10 year old cat was diagnosed with cancer. It was to the stage where he was drooling and bleeding out of his mouth. The vet removed the cancerous tissue, but said they couldn't give me a estimate of how long. So I was wondering if any one could please tell me how much time they think I have left. Anything will help.
Answer: I think that the oral cancer in cats is one of the cruelest and most heartbreaking. My rescue cat Alexander died from it ten months after his diagnosis a year ago. He was treated by a homeopathic veterinarian and his quality of life was excellent throughout and though the tumor grew slowly he did not lose weight nor lose his ability to eat well. He never had a bloody or odoriferous discharge from his mouth. In the last three weeks the tumor "took off" and the vet said it would break his jaw and cause him a lot of suffering so, sadly, I made the choice to euthanize him. He was 17 and I only had him for a year. A wonderful year - he was a great gentleman and a terrific cat.
I don't think anyone can tell you how long, not even your vet. Just treasure your time with him and face the reality of his end for whatever time there will be.
Question: can teens get oral cancer? im 14 years old and i discovered a really tiny bumb or sore on the tip of my tongue its sorta the same color as my tongue i never smoked or drank alchohal or chewed tobacco so can it b a early stage of oral cancer? or do i just need to brush better
Answer: I have had these "bumps" on my tongue before. They are not symptoms of oral cancer. Actually, these sores are like zits, only they are like dead taste buds. This just changes how things taste to you, your taste buds are rearranging. Usually, oral cancer is on the inside of your lips. Also, if you don't do any drugs, you shouldn't have oral cancer. You can still get oral cancer if you do drugs like chew, dip, or alcohol. You can ask your doctor if you are so worried, that would be the safest thing to do. He (or she) can tell you what the symptoms are.
These bumps will hurt for a little while, but eventually (with good brushing) these sores will go away. You can also use salt water, or hydrogen peroxide and swish for 1 minute. I hope this helps!
Question: Someone I know has Oral HPV, my question is can contract it by sharing drinks? I know someone who has ORAL HPV and is in the beginning stages of being treated for oral cancer. Can you contract ORAL HPV by sharing drinks or food?
Answer: Yes. Don't share drinks. My friend got oral hpv from sharing drinks.
You can see who have STD in your local area at pozcupid .com
Question: Needs billing code for "Oral Cancer examination"? VELscope- Oral cancer screening device is used by a dentist to detect this cancer at a very early stage before it becomes aperant to naked eyes under routine white ligth.
Answer: This exam is included in the comprehensive oral exam and periodic oral exam, since the OCE is done routinely at each of the visits.........
Maybe the procedure would be listed under the pathology codes (D0472-D0502)? Not sure, though.
Question: what are the beginning stages of cancer? is bleeding after you poop and muscle ceamps some of them?because i wen to the dentist and in the x ray a weird white spot showed up on my gum so i have to go to an oral surgen to make sure its not cancer or anything bad im scared because cancer runs in my family!!!
Answer: Did your dentist say he thought that this was something that you should worry about? As for the beginning signs of cancer, I would not think that the symptoms that you are having would have anything to do with what is going on in your mouth. My mom had 2 different kinds of cancer so I cant say for sure. Sorry dear. Hoope everything works out for you.
Question: what are the last days of Oral Cancer like? my grandma was recently diagnosed with Oral Cancer and it is already in stage 4. I am wondering what to expect in the final few days of her life....in other words, are there any sudden changes or added symptoms i should expect to see? Also, due to the pain and the mucous build up in her throat she cannot eat solid food and i have been feeding her soups, yogurt and baby food. I am wondering if anyone has any ideas for other things i can cook for her that she can eat? she needs very soft, almost soup-like food. Any other advice regarding Oral Cancer would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!
Answer: My bil's final day was so horrible, he gave himself a lethal injection of morphine.
Question: oral cavity cancer (tonsillar)? I need some diet reccomandation for pre-operative and post-operative early stage cancer diet tips of tonisillar carcinoma. Thanks.
Answer: You need to talk to your ENT about a referral to the hospital's dietitian. Ask him for a referral to the speech pathologist, too, as you may end up with swallowing problems.
Question: does oral chemotherapy help for primary stage four liver cancer?
Answer: Sorafenib, or Nexavar, is the only drug approved for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) (liver cancer), that actually increases survival. It is an oral drug that is pretty well tolerated.
Its improvement in survival is modest, at only 3 months on average (1/2 did better, 1/2 did worse basically). It was the first agent ever to actually show a survival advantage however, so it is a good start.
In my opinion, it is worth trying, as my experience has been patients tolerate it well. All of this of course implies one can get the drug- it is incredibly expensive.
