Ovarian Cancer Information
Question: Can anyone suggest any websites which contains 'easy to understand' information on Ovarian Cancer? thanks for your time. =]
Answer: check out this site, they got all the info on Ovarian Cancer
http://cancer-symptoms-and-treatments.bl…
Question: People with Ovarian Cancer Information Please!! thank you!? Hello, I'm a 21 year old woman, and I have been experiencing some concerning symptoms. They are:
-Pain during Intercourse (Not even really all the time..Not constant)
-Painful urination (Got tested and have a bladder ifection, but Ive had many before and these symptoms are different.)
-Nausea (sometimes throughout the day)
-Fatigue
-Loss of Appetite
-Strange pain in pelvic area..(a dull ache)
-Gas (like a lot! haha..it kind of hurts to pass gas..cause I'm constipated)
Basically just a general malaise...
But the problem is, my doctor knows I have Anxiety Disorder, and this is what I hate! When you come to them, with a serious problem, and serious concern..(Not that Anxiety isn't, it is!) he doesn't take it seriously. and ends up bringing the topic back to my Anxiety. It really makes me mad, but I never end up getting upset...I always try to agree with him, and take his advice. He's going to give me a pap test, but I have to wait 2 weeks before then, and that worrys me cause I just want it figured out now. Or as soon as possible.
I didn't want to talk about this, but I guess I should mention why he wants to wait 2 weeks. I had an termination pregnancy (Please don't judge I'm not here, to read how it's wrong and I shouldn't have done it, I did it for my own personal reasons.) around 4 weeks ago, and he has to wait a full 6 or more weeks to get a correct reading for the pap test apparently. So anyways, I'd like to know what you think, and if you've had any experiences, I'm pretty concerned right now. I think I'm worrying myself a little more then I should.
What are your thoughts please.

Answer: How many times do you have to ask this question?
A pap smear tells you nothing about the ovaries so I don’t know what this has to do with the problems you are having. You are supposed to wait 6 weeks to have intercourse after terminating a pregnancy so that may be the reason for pain. Overall there is nothing to indicate ovarian cancer
Question: Ovarian Cancer gene information? What gene(s) provides Ovarian Cancer?
What chromosome is this gene located on?
What cells express this gene?
What proteins are expressed by each gene?
Exactly what does the protein do or how does it work to cause Ovarian Cancer (or what doesn't the protein do)?
Thanks!
Now i just need to know what proteins are expressed by the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes? (I need names)
And how these proteins work?
Thanks!!
Answer: BRCA1 (breast cancer 1, early onset) is a human gene, some mutations of which are associated with a significant increase in the risk of breast cancer, as well as other cancers.BRCA1 belongs to a class of genes known as tumor suppressors, which maintains genomic integrity to prevent uncontrolled proliferation. The multifactorial BRCA1 protein product is involved in DNA damage repair, ubiquitination, transcriptional regulation as well as other functions.
Question: When ovarian cancer recurs, what kind(s) of cancer is it most likely to be? I can find very little information about recurrent ovarian cancer, and, as a two-year survivor of Stage IIIC OVCA, I'm concerned about how a recurrence can be detected and what I and my MDs should be looking for.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: Ovarian carcinoma has somewhat of a tendency to reccur. Do you know specifically what kind of carcinoma you were diagnosed with or were you just told that it was cancerous? I'd be glad to help youwith any questions you have but i would need a little more info. There aren't any symptoms that doctors can determine are definetly from ovarian cancer. The usual thing to watch out for is symptoms that you have that seem to get progressively worse. Some of the symptoms that could mean your cancer is returning are Abdominal pressure, fullness, swelling or bloating, frequent urination, low back pain, unexplained weight loss or weight gain, and a loss of appetite. Let me know if you have other questions
Question: Some information about Ovarian cancer? My grandma died of it 6 years ago and i think maybe it would help if i knew more about it.. like, what happens? how do you get it?

Question: im looking for information reguarding any type of ovarian cancer run / marathon in houston tx?
Answer: If you want to run a longer than a 5k and still support your charity you can set up a donation website. Go to this site and it is pretty easy to set up.
http://fundraising.marathonguide.com/
Then email all your family and friends and tell them you are running a marathon to raise money for your cause. Recently a friend of mine did this for a friend of ours who was a young healthy mother and died way to young. She raised over twenty thousand because her story was so heart wrenching and everyone would donate and send it on. Houston’s marathon is usually early January so you missed it for this year, but you could always train for a fall marathon in another city. Here is a list of upcoming marathons.
http://www.marathonguide.com/races/races…
This is probably the foundation you are wanting in Houston.

Question: What does it mean to have type 3 ovarian cancer? today my best friends mom was diagnosed with type 3 ovarian cancer and starts chemo treatments in 3 to 4 weeks. i dont really know anything about this disease or how serious it is. i dont know what type 3 means either...
i tried looking for information online but everything was much too scientific, so if you could help me out thatd be great!
Answer: Do you mean stage 3? There is no such thing as type 3. The stage of ovarian cancer is determined by how much it has spread. The stage is useful in determining outcome and the appropriate treatment. Stage 3 ovarian cancer, the cancer has spread outside of the ovary, into the abdominal (peritoneal) cavity and out of the pelvis. If a patient has superficial liver involvement then they are also stage 3. In comparison, stage 1 is when the cancer is only in the ovary and stage 4 is when there is distant spread of the cancer. Estimated 5 year survival for a patient with stage 3 ovarian cancer is about 35-46%. The treatment for this stage is surgical removal and debulking + chemotherapy. I hope this helps answer your question, but if not please let me know.
Question: What is the difference in ovarian cancer and PCOS? I have been diagnosed with PCOS, but I still don't know all of the details, but when I was looking on google for some information I noticed that the ribbons for pcos awareness are the same color as the ones for ovarian cancer. Are the two linked? Does PCOS lead to ovarian cancer?
Answer: They aren't sure at this time. PCOS does cause the cysts on your ovaries but they haven't had any studies show that it is linked with ovarian cancer. Sometimes they just run out of colors so they will use the same color for more than 1 illness. I went to a website that had 5 things listed for some of the colors and none of them were linked. I will say the OBGYN that diagnosed me with PCOS was honest with me and told me that they are studying the link with Ovarian, Uterine and Breast Cancers because of the hormone risks and the cysts on the ovaries and the irregular periods but that no link has been found yet. They have found that having the Cysts surgically removed which they use to do often, increases the risks of ovarian cancer. Another thing PCOS puts you at higher risk for is heart problems and diabetes according to studies done.
Question: ovarian cancer or cyst? 23/F. I have been having discomfort in my right lower abdomen for months now. It is a dull aching pain that sometimes extends to the thigh of my right leg. Occasionaly it will turn to a more moderate pain lasting for only a few seconds. I have also found myself urinating more frequently & on some days feeling a little nauseous. I am a virgin, still have regular periods, have had no vaginal bleeding other then the times when I am mestrating, and was on birth control for a few months about a year ago due to having fibrocystic breast disease. I am concerned that this may be a cyst or worst yet maybe even ovarian cancer. Any information you could give or personal experiences would be great. PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME TO GO TO A DOCTOR - I AM GOING!
Answer: Its probably a cyst. Usually ovarian cancer doesn't have any symptoms until later.
Question: Is anyone familiar with the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer? I have been experiencing pelvic pain, pressure, and cramping in addtion to lower back pain for the past few weeks. It feels similar to the uncomfort I feel during menstruation. I am only 29 years old but seem to be experiencing several of the symptoms listed for this particular cancer. I would appreciate any information you may have on the subject. Thanks.
Answer: Hi. I am an OB/GYN. It is rare to have Ovarian Cancer at your age, but possible. Some of the symptoms associated with Ovarian Cancer can be a lot of things. What I strongly suggest is a visit to your Gynecologist. He/She will be able to order blood tests, and if needed an Ultra-Sound. I would not worry too much, but it is always better to be safe. Ovarian Cancer is usually Post-Menopausal, and does not show symptoms until later. Get checked. Good Luck.

Answer: You may have ovarian cyst. I know you had an ultrasound over a year ago, but you should get another. Also, the pain during intercourse may be from endometriosis. Please talk to your gyno and don't let him dismiss your systems. You may want to get a second opinion. Best of Luck!
Question: Why is the CA-125 blood test to check for ovarian cancer not part of a woman's yearly checkup? My sister-n-law has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She had a pap smear about 2 years ago. Maybe if the CA-125 blood test was part of the normal check-up woman could be diagnosed sooner. And why isn't there more information given to women to tell them that a pap smear does not test for ovarian cancer just cervical cancer.
Answer: The CA-125 test is not designed to be a screening test to detect ovarian cancer. I wish we had one. This test is strictly to monitor a patient. It is not a confirmation test either. Diagnostic is strictly on histology/ pathology samples.
The are also a good percentage of Ovarian cancers that do not produce that specific tumor marker.
I am sorry to say this, but right now there is nothing better to screen than a thin- pap test.
I am 20+ year in the medical technology field

Answer: Who is at risk for ovarian cancer?
The exact causes of ovarian cancer are not known. However, studies show that the following factors may increase the chance of developing this disease:
*Family history. First-degree relatives (mother, daughter, sister) of a woman who has had ovarian cancer are at increased risk of developing this type of cancer themselves. The likelihood is especially high if two or more first-degree relatives have had the disease. The risk is somewhat less, but still above average, if other relatives (grandmother, aunt, cousin) have had ovarian cancer. A family history of breast or colon cancer is also associated with an increased risk of developing ovarian cancer.
*Age. The likelihood of developing ovarian cancer increases as a woman gets older. Most ovarian cancers occur in women over the age of 50, with the highest risk in women over 60.
*Childbearing. Women who have never had children are more likely to develop ovarian cancer than women who have had children. In fact, the more children a woman has had, the less likely she is to develop ovarian cancer.
*Personal history. Women who have had breast or colon cancer may have a greater chance of developing ovarian cancer than women who have not had breast or colon cancer.
Recognizing ovarian cancer symptoms-
Ovarian cancer often shows no obvious signs or symptoms until late in its development. Signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer may include:
-General abdominal discomfort and/or pain (gas, indigestion, pressure, swelling, bloating, cramps)
-Nausea, diarrhea, constipation, or frequent urination
-Loss of appetite
-Feeling of fullness even after a light meal
-Weight gain or loss with no known reason
-Abnormal bleeding from the vagina
Question: Is a tv ultrasound, xray, and a regular ultrasound a good way to detect ovarian tumors/cancer? Hi I am 20 years old and Im doing a cancer project for my health class. I decided to choose ovarian cancer because it does run in my family and I would like to be aware of the signs. From my research I have read that a tv ultrasound, xray, MRI, or CT scan are all good ways to check for tumors. Is that true? I know an MRI or a CT scan will have a better chance to pick up a mass, but what about a tv ultrasound?? Any other information about ovarian cancer?? Thanks for the help!!
Answer: Well, if you are doing this for your health class than you should know less than 10% of all cancers are hereditary. If this cancer runs in your family you must have multiple young family members with ovarian and/or breast cancer. You should include this information and mention how rare it is and include information on genetic testing.
TV ultrasound is the best choice for looking at the ovaries. Cancer is often picked up on regular ultrasound or CT, but they would not be used to specifically look at the ovaries. MRI is NOT routinely used in these cases. A CT would be necessary to help determine the extent of the disease.
Question: If somebody has ovarian cancer do they get, pain in the lower back, cramps, blood in their urine and spotting? and when they eat do they get indigestion like chest pain, and gas from up stairs, and irregular periods, and bloating? I need to know for private information which I will not discuss on here. I just need to know if they are the sypmtoms that I heard about today? Thank you. and if you have ovarian cancer or knows someone wiht it what did they have? And what is the survival rate? Thanks
Answer: Those symptoms could mean various things, but blood in the urine is seriously not good and merits a doctor visit SOON.
