Ovarian Cancer Research
Question: my wife and i want to have a benefit for ovarian cancer and have no idea where to start any ideas would be nic my wife has stage three-a ovarian cancer and has just came out of remission after four and a half years, sara just had her first round of chemo friday.sara want's to hold a benefit concert and donate the proceeds to the Gilda Radnor ovarian cancer research foundation. We have alot of very good musicians in and around the Jamestown N.Y. area we would like to do it around April of next year, But we have no idea what permits and things like this we need to have.
Answer: I work for a charity. A key thing to planning is to have as low as expense as possible. If you are just doing a concert (that is, no meals), you'll most likely have these expenses: printing/mailing invitations, advertising expense, performers' fees, venue rental. If the performers are into the cause, maybe they'll waive their fees, especially if they are local musicians. Sometimes you can make trades (X # of tickets in return for free printing). In everything you publish, make sure you reference where the proceeds will go. If you aren't doing a raffle, you shouldn't need any permits - unless you're thinking of holding the concert in a park rather than a concert hall. Also, a local school or church might be willing to provide the space for the concert.
Question: Can you help me locate online some good research articles on ovarian cancer and the chances for survival?
BMac: The whole idea of Yahoo Answers is to share information. Along with doing my own research on any number of subjects, I find that participants of Yahoo Answers are always more than willing to share information on subjects that they themselves have researched or about which they have personal experience. I am only too happy to share my many areas of expertise with others just as you have shared information with me for which I thank you. Chastising people who are requesting answers is neither helpful or the intent of this website.
Answer: I have gotten a lot of info from the mayo clinic website...I am a Ovarain cancer survivor, I was stage 3 c , It was a year since my surgery
Question: in-depth research on ovarian cancer...? ok so, i have to do a little project in my health class

B. important facts relating to ovarian cancer
C. Prevention strategies
D. methods of treating ovarian cancer -
1. conventional methods
2. naturopathic methods (whatever that is...)
so yea a little help would be nice! =]
Answer: Do you want someone to read the book for you as well? Perhaps also write up a cheat sheet, so you will have a chance of passing the test, and then get your degree?
What will happen when someone enters your office and says "I have cancer, how am I going to survive ovarian cancer" Tell them after you get back to reading your second year college book, you will have an answer? Their life will be in your hands. If you can not handle this, and want to spend your time on vacation, well drop out of school, so you will not let anyone die from your lack of knowledge on the subject that you are (or someone else is) spending a lot of money for you to learn.
By the way, if you have been selling your old college books, all I can ask is why? You learned much information from them, and while in 5 years they will be a little out of date, they will still provide the basic research that you will need. I would save them for at least 10 years, so you can use them to quickly look up information, and refresh your memory. 25 years from now, you can look at the information and say "Back in 2006, they actually still used toxic chemotherapy to kill cancer, when we all know now that was so toxic to the healthy cells."
I have an old 1955 almanac, and it describes Asbestos in the most endearing terms, how it saves many lives per year in fire safety equipment, and how HEPA air filters are made out of asbestos to prevent radioactive elements from passing through the fine weave asbestos filters.
I have a feeling in 2025 we will be embracing Chemotherapy as much as we love spraying our ceilings with asbestos today. Both are very toxic, and cancer is so easy to kill with high PH therapy.
Google 'Dr. Otto Warburg', he discovered it is easy to kill cancer, and even won a Nobel Prize for that research.
But remember that the test that you take will be based on what was written in your textbooks, even if the textbook is from 5 years ago, and has much outdated research in it. The "Correct answer" will be what the author based his book on.
It looks like you have a lot of reading to do.
Question: Are there any research done on ovarian cancer patients and intravenous pain medication?
Answer: Try mangosteen. It has pain relief properties and also has been used by cancer patients because of the xanthones in mangosteen. go to wwwpubmed.com type cancer then xanthones
Question: chickens/ovarian cancer? I have to do a presentation in animal physiology about chickens and why they're a good animal to use in ovarian cancer research. Any information (other than the relatively obvious) would be appreciated and helpful!
Answer: chickens can produce 1 egg a day, which means ovaries that never rest. There are no other animals like that. Everything else reproduces when they are in heat... once a month, once a year... Fish lay 100's of eggs at a time, but again, they only do it once a year or twice...
With a chicken, you would be able to look at the ovaries of aging chickens and see what kinds of problems they have or the shape they are in after laying so many eggs in a certain period of time. It would be a controlled observation. Good luck
How does that sound?
Question: ovarian cancer ? im doing a research paper for my biology project.
i have to write a one page story on the day in the life of someone with ovarian cancer. could someone help me out by giving me facts and or articles about what people have to go through with ovarian cancer.
thanks a lot all help is really appreciated.
Answer: My mother has had ovarian cancer twice. Surgery (more radical the second time) and chemo both times. It tends to be a later-stage diagnosis because the symptoms are so nondescript and common to many other diseases (fatigue, swelling, bloating, etc) that it is not caught on those complaints. It also is a common diagnosis in women who have had the uterus removed and who never go back for pelvics after that. The first time required about a week in the hospital and months of recovery followed by a brutal regimen of chemotherapy (six months). The recurrence was caught not by a test (although the CA125 was up slightly) but on a digital rectal exam. Another surgery with two feet of the colon removed and a rebuilt anus followed and then six more months of chemo. The cancer tends to come back in the abdominal/thorax area rather than in the brain or other tissue. It, too, has little symptom on recurrence. The second surgery required nine days in ICU before she could come home...a LONG time if you're the patient, and almost as long if you're the family. It is a roller coaster of emotions- fear, anxiety, did they get it all, what is the prognosis, how will she/we deal with the chemo, loss of hair, fatigue that is killer...and the list goes on and on. One day that sticks out in my mind most is the rediagnosis day. The shock even though you expect that shoe to drop...just not today, God. Getting the ball rolling on blood work, CT/PET scans, xrays, presurgical paperwork. It moved in a blur and, God bless them, the staff at Sacred Heart Hospital went above and beyond the call to help. They escorted us to prevent us getting lost in that byzantine maze, called ahead to let another dept know we were coming, got papers ready to sign, kept up with what was done and what was still needed, and all without a complaint. They are truly saints! If there is anything I can help with or questions I can answer, email me. I will be glad to help you. May you never deal with this horrible disease. And, if you do, may you be as blessed as we have in care and results. My mother is still alive today thanks to conscientious doctors and excellent care.
Question: Cysts On My Ovaries? I'm to scared to go to the doctor cuz Ovarian Cancer runs in our family? Imagine going threw puberty dealing with normaly body changes as well as growing a full beard. As I struggled with trying to figure out why I have a beard or why I have chest hair, my family just told me don't worry about it nothing is wrong. After years of asking questions and tearful research I find out that Ovarian Cancer runs in our family, and my aunt even has it. Knowing this my family never took me to a doctor. I had all the symptom of both Polycystic Ovaries and Ovarian cancer,(excessive hair, no longer getting periods, obesity etc). This cause my situation to get worse and now that Im old enuff I'm finally taking my health into my own hand. Why would my family let me search aimlessly for the answers they already know and put my health in jeopardy instead of just telling me what runs in the family. Now my self-esteem is s low cuz I have hair growing on my chest, breast and all over my face.Am I wrong for being angry at my family?
Answer: Calm down, take a deep breath. I am not going to tell you you are wrong for being angry at your family, but I am going to tell you they did not 'give' you this.
As for them 'knowing' are you sure? Are you 100% positive they KNEW that you had PCOS or cancer? I doubt they would have let you search for a cause instead of getting a cure for cancer, and as for PCOS, it wasn't really the first thought until the last 15 years or so.
Rather than worry about what they 'did' to you I would worry about getting a dx immediatly, especially since you have the cysts, acne, hirsutism and IR (obesity) that comes with PCOS.
It can be treated, it can be managed, and you can live a fairly normal life. From what you describe it sounds more like PCOS than cancer. Since you have done much research, as you state, I am not going to go into the other things it could be, it sounds like you might have ruled them out on your own
Follow the links below for one of my favorite PCOS forums. You are not alone!!!
Make and appt with your OB/GYN and take control. Forgive those in your family who may have wronged your through ignorance.
Question: Ovarian Cancer questions PLEASE HELP!? So for my job we have health fairs where we go and get blood work done. This was a few weeks back and I just got the test results back last wed. and on the CA-125 test it said my level was high its supposed to be under 21 I think it said and mine was 29. So I am worried I have Ovarian Cancer.
I researched symptoms more and for the past year or year and a half I have had horrible bloating, gas and stomach issues.
My bowel movements are not regular, they dont happen often
and I go pee alot.
I have never had these issues before in my entire life.
I didn't think too much into them and just thought I had IBS or something. I have a gyno appointment next week I just needed some advice on what other people thought.
Or maybe some one has been through the same thing I have and they ended up with Ovarian cancer.
Or who have had the same level of numbers on their CA-125 test.
Any advice will help. Thank you.
Answer: a friend of mine has ova c her Ca test goes up and down. I would really suggest you keep that gyne appt. It may not be anything but can't hurt to check it out.
Good Luck Hon
Question: What are the symptoms of ovarian cancer? I am 20 years old ..i'm going for an ultrasound soon ..i got blood work done and everything mostly came back normal, free testosterone was high ..i did some research and i'm worried i could possibly have a tumor ...my periods have completely stopped, with occasional unusual brown discharge, i feel bloated all the time, my bowels have changed and i am constantly constipated ..has anyone experienced this?
Answer: its unlikely you have ovarian cancer at your age
if your periods stopped and your free testosterone is high, you may have polycystic ovarian syndrome. Especially if you are overweight, but it can also happen to non-overweight people
If it is polycystic ovarian syndrome, don't worry because that's not a cancer. You will likely need to go on birth control pills
Question: What is the difference in prognosis by doing 4 instead of 6 quimo's in ovarian cancer? Can you point to research/studies on this subject?
Answer: I doubt that anyone has done a study comparing four cycles of chemotherapy to six cycles for ovarian carcinoma. If you have a complete response after optimal debulking surgery and four cycles of chemotherapy - especially if you have a good serum test marker such as the CA 125 falling to normal - you might stop after four cycles and see what the "test of time" shows. But in the medical / legal climate today in the USA - if the ovarian cancer came back - the doctor would probably be sued for stopping short of six cycles. People in the U.S. frequently look for someone to blame when things do not turn out well. The standard is six cycles, but patients may elect to stop short of this.

Question: PCOS - Do I have an increased risk to ovarian cancer? I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2006 and have done a lot research into it just to try and get my head around it - but one thing I’ve never come across is the risk to cancer.
I am wondering if this would mean I am at greater risk of ovarian cancer due to PCOS? Is there any facts?
Answer: U arent at any greater risk of getting ovarian cancer, but having PCOS means u would need to get checked out a lot more than other women, to check the cysts arent anything sinister. But Dont worry, just make sure u are aware and comfortable with the symptoms u get with the PCOS so if u start to get any other symptoms that u arent aware of, then u know that u need to get it checked out.
Question: What are the actual systems of ovarian and cervical cancer? I seem to have all of the symptoms that I have researched: fullness in stomach, pain in pelvic during intercourse, persistent gas and back pain. I'm a slim woman yet I look as if I'm 4 months pregnant. Could it be gynecological cancer?
Answer: Unfortunately, it could be a gynecological cancer, such as ovarian cancer, but there are other things it could be as well because these are vague symptoms.
You really need to get to your gynecologist as soon as possible for an exam, possibly a transvaginal ultrasound and blood tests. As the others say, it's really not something you want to wait around and find out what people say here, because we can't possibly make a diagnosis for you. And if it is any type of cancer you want to get a diagnosis as early as possible.
I know it's scary to find out but you may also find out there is a benign process going on, and that would be a relief.
Question: What are the best hospitals in CA for ovarian cancer treatment? Best surgeons? my grandma might be diagnosed with it, and im trying to research the best hospitals/sugeons in the southern california area...
Answer: city of hope national hospital is the best!!!! I had chemo, radiation n surgery there 4 a cancer the doc's @ usc thought would kill me n 2 months. Question: Question about ovarian cancer.? I do worry a lot about my health and well i cant help it, i asked a question about my urine infection yesterday but i was doing some research and i came across ovarian cancer.
Ive had health complaints on and off for the past year. I have had pain in my abdomen before and even went for an ultrasound on it.
I have swollen lymph nodes in my neck and have been for an ultrasound for that.
I have been told i have a urine infection but only a slight one, i dont have pain when urinating or smelly cloudy wee, just pain in my side and legs.
My question is, when i went for an ultrasound on my stomach many many months ago would it have shown if i had ovarian cancer.
I know i worry about my health alot but i wouldnt feel this way if there wasnt something wrong.
Answer: When anyone starts worrying about their health, the imagination can run riot. If I have a health problem, I live with it for about two weeks and it usually goes away. If it does not I would visit the doctor.
One a day St John's Wort works like magic if you are constantly worrying or if you are depressed.
Question: Cancer and electric blankets? Ovarian cancer; can electric blankets be a large cause?
My sister would like to purchase one for my neice and she is concerned because she once read that electric blankets can cause ovarian cancer.
I researched it quite a bit but my conclusion is inconlusive.
To me i think it sounds silly. And if it was true their should be a warning on it. Because i highly doubt if many people know.
If you are able to answer providing a website/document link would be great.
Thank you so much.
Answer: The idea there is that an electric blanket gives off an electromagnetic field, and that's what some folks wants you to be concerned about, which is ludicrous. People that believe that usually also think that living under power lines is "dangerous" (it isn't*), but ironically are also likely to think that magnetic bracelets are GOOD for rheumatism!
Your own heart gives off an electrical field, as do the Sun, the Earth, and anything conductive in the Universe.
If you have electricity in your house, the whole house is generating a field that you live in. The blanket isn't going to change it that much.
Question: Ovarian Cancer... Cyst? I'm scared.? Im 22. I was diagnosed with HPV 2 years ago. A colposcopy was done, there were some cell changes found but it wasn't anything to worry about according to the doctor. I was supposed to come in 6 months later but I was too terrified to go.
Last November, my stomach was hurting me to the point that I couldn't move -- I thought I was just having a gas bubbles in my stomach or something. After 2 days of pain and pills I started bleeding, I thought it was a late period.
Since January, my period has been missing every other month. None in Jan, then it came Feb, March then it was missing July & August then it came Sept and I'm on it now.
I noticed that I have bloating, and I cannot eat like I used to -- I get full very quickly. After doing research, I saw I matched for symptoms of Ovarian Cancer. I called my OBGYN and they said the next appt is in January.
I don't really know what to do. My mother said I should wait. I rarely have pains now, its every once and a while but I'm just lost and very scared. Please offer assistance .
Answer: Those symptoms can match more than ovarian cancer. Although the internet is wonderful, when we self diagnose more often than not you are over diagnosing yourself.
Could by cysts or hormone changes. When I had ovarian cysts, when they were at it's worst, I had no appetite, bloating and could not move I was in so much pain.. I was on all fours on the floor crying... (sounds dramatic but no position was good...) later found out i had ruptured which is why it hurt so badly.
Don't freak yourself out over what you read on the internet. If you think it's more severe and can not wait until January call and pitch a fit, call another ob/gyn or go to the ER during a severe episode. You can also go to your pcp to start any testing, it doesn't have to be your ob/gyn.
good luck.
