Ovarian Cancer Stages
Question: How long do the four stages of ovarian cancer take? how long will stage I take to turn into stage II and stage II to turn into stage III and stage III to turn into stage IV? And finally how long will it take if it kills you for you to die with and without treatment?
Answer: There is no specific time span determining when one stage progresses to the next. Ovarian cancer is staged based on how invasive it's become. In other words, progression depends on whether it's moved beyond the ovaries, into the abdomen but not the lymph glands, or beyond the abdomen into lymph system and elsewhere.
Unfortunately, since ovarian cancer is a "silent killer" - meaning it does not have symptoms in early, easily addressed stages - it's usually not caught until it has progressed.
Look up: "ovarian cancer stages prognosis" for specifics. (I'd insert links but my iPhone doesn't copy and paste... Grr.)
As someone getting chemo for stage IIIc ovarian - which wasdiscoveted only 6 1/2 weeks ago - let me just assure you the progression is rapid, and the later the stage (there are only 4), the more frightening and debilitating it gets.
Question: Any one know if there is financial assistance for Ovarian Cancer? My mother has been diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer Stage 3B and is need of financial assistance paying her medical bills. Anyone know what she should do besides divorce my father after 32 years of marriage.
She is already getting assistance through Harris County with the Gold Card. And I have approached her doctors with the money issue and they keep telling me to either talk to billing or organizations.
Answer: Talk to her doctor he/she will know of any assistance programs if there are any. If not then she needs to talk to him/her about working with her on her bill. That she is willing to pay but does not have all that money at this time. Many doctors are willing to take payments over a period of time. Some will even take less money in some cases.
Question: What are stages of ovarian cancer and all their symptoms?

Kindly purchase the audio cassette of Surrah “AL-REHMAN” recited by Qari Abdul Basit, listen the cassette 3 times in a day (morning, afternoon, evening) before you start listening, close your eyes, feel your self in front of GOD and then hear it with greater concentration. When the recitation is finished, kindly take a half glass of water again close your eyes and say “ALLAH” 3 times in your heart and then drink the water with closed eyes. So you have to drink water 3 times each after listening the recitation. You have to do it repeatedly for 7 days, “SHIFA” is from the almighty ALLAH. “SHIFA MIN-JANIB-ALLAH”. if you can not buy Cassette then download from web site www.alrehman.com Thanks
Question: When is your oncologist able to determine the stage of your ovarian cancer? During the last 6 months I have had several sessions of chemotherapy to treat ovarian cancer. Three weeks ago, I had surgery: removal of ovaries and omentum. My post operative appt. is in a couple of weeks. What questions should I ask my doctor regarding "stage" of cancer? What exactly does "stage" mean and what are its implications? Thanks for any help you can give me.
Answer: Your doctors have known your stage for months if they started out with multiple cycles of combination chemotherapy before surgery. They probably knew the stage after the initial evaluation six months ago from CT scans through the chest, abdomen, and pelvis.
ASK
1. What was the stage of my ovarian cancer when treatments began?
2. What were the findings of the pathologist at the recent surgery? Was there residual malignancy in the specimens removed - the ovaries, the omentum? Could a copy of the pathology report be provided?
3. What did the surgeon see in the abdomen at the time of surgery? Could a copy of the operative report be provided for the patient and family?
4. Are there any blood test tumor markers that can be followed in my case such as the CA125? Has this been elevated? What is it now?
I realize cancer medicine is practiced differently in various places. I tried to supply all of this information to my patients as they were going through treatments. Maybe it has been provided, and you have been in too much shock to understand it. In any case, these are the questions I would want answered if you were my family member.
Best of luck to you.
Question: How do I tell my children i have stage 4 ovarian cancer? I have a daughter, 12 and son 11. I have just found out i have stage 4 ovarian cancer and may have 3-5 years left. i am the working mom, and their dad is the stay at home dad (our agreement since adopting them when they were babies). how do i tell them i have cancer, will have surgery and chemo and how do i keep them from researching ovarian c on the internet? how much do i tell them?
Answer: Hi Lisa,
I have some advices for you although they are a bit different from what you asked for.
First, you don't have to accept that this cancer will kill you in 3 to 5 years. If that is really what you believe that is probably what will happen.
I don't know if you believe in God, but if so, have faith the he can heal you. If you don't believe in God, then have faith that you can heal yourself! If you don't think that this is possible then I can give you a little kick start. Just take the time to look at this website here : http://tinyurl.com/6pt26p

Question: Do you know of anyone diagnosed/treated for ovarian cancer stage 3c and still in good health after 5 years? My wife is 47 yrs old, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, stage 3c, in early 2002, underwent surgery and was treated with chemotherapy. But she has had three recurrences since then and currently is in poor health with a lot of pain and discomfort. I would like to get opinion and/or advise from people who have had this problem, preferably those who were diagnosed at stage 3c, got treated, did not have any recurrence and currently in good health. This will help me to know how they managed the problem and how they have remained free of recurrence and in good health now.
Answer: I was diagnosed with a stage four ovarian cancer 2 years ago when I was 17. I was supposed to only have 6 rounds of chemo, but I had the option of two more rounds, which I did. I also had a surgery which took 5 hours. I havent had any reoccurences. It hasnt been five years, but I have had been cancer free. I would just go with any additional treatments that the oncologists offer. I hope everything goes well with your wife. If she needs anyone to talk to she can email me, because I have been through it all.
Question: what are survival chances for a woman with ovarian cancer stage IIIC, after total hysterectomy and 2 years of? citostatics/chemo(gemzar+carbo)with low trombocites'level and diabet, over weight, and only 43 years old?my friend is in such a situation and the doc stopped the chemo cos the blood tests was worst about trombo, but the CA 125 was 11.Excuse my spelling and thanks
Answer: If the doctor has stopped treatment then that means they have given up on your friend. I am sad to hear she is going through this. If she has been battling this long then she is a fighter. Keep on being a friend to her.
Here is some information that may prove valuable to her. I am a FIRM believer in mangosteen juice and the 21 day cancer challenge. I have had several family members do it and the cancer has remissed. Have her take a look and see if this is for her. at least she knows there is another option out there!
Let me know if I can be of any assistance
You are both in my prayers
Question: What is the chances of surviving 3rd Stage Ovarian Cancer? The 39 years old,Lady's ,ovaries and other organs are taken out successfully and she is undergoing chemo therapy now. What are her chances of surviving and what is the average life span in such cases?
Answer: I'm so sorry to hear this. Its difficult to know her survival rate. There are substages within each stage. In stage 3, the cancer the cancer may or may not have spread to the lymph nodes. That can give a very different outcome & survival rate. Her survival rate will also depend upon how she responds to the chemo. Her survival rate will also depend upon whether or not the cancer returns after treatment. Survival rates have been improving and 39 years is young, so she will tolerate treatment better & may heal better than an older woman.
Question: Ovarian cancer? My 89 year old mother has stage three ovarian cancer. I have requested no intervention except for pallative pain relief. Her other major systems, heart, blood pressure, kidneys are still functioning fine. She is very thin and wants to die. She has had it about two months. How long will she live?
Answer: I am so sorry about your mother, I lost my mother a year ago after a 3 year battle with ovarian cancer, so I know what you are going through. It is really hard to say how long your mother will survive with this, as you know, ovarian cancer is extremely hard to diagnose and treat because by the time it is detected, it is advanced. It tends to spread to other parts of the body. Treasure the time she has left with you and give it to God.
Question: I need answers ASAP. If someone has ovarian cancer and is in the end stages of the disease? and suffers from cramping in the stomache and irrelular periods, and lower back pain that is always there etc, how long how they got? What is the prognoses. I need SERIOUS answers please ASAP. Thank you very much.
Answer: Ovarian cancer is cancer of the ovaries, the eggreleasing and hormone-producing organs of the female reproductive tract. Cancerous, or malignant, cells divide and multiply in an abnormal fashion.
The ovaries are small, almond-shaped organs, located in the pelvic region, one on either side of the uterus. When a woman is in her childbearing years, the ovaries alternate to produce and release an egg each month during the menstrual cycle. The released egg is picked up by the adjacent fallopian tube, and continues down toward the uterus. The ovaries also produce and secrete the female hormones estrogen and progesterone, which regulate the menstrual cycle and pregnancy, as well as support the development of the secondary female sexual characteristics (breasts, body shape, and body hair). During pregnancy and when women take certain medications, such as oral contraceptives, the ovaries are given a rest from their usual monthly duties.
The symptoms stated by you - cramping pain in the stomach and irregular periods, and lower back pain - are not necessarily cancer symptoms and these symptoms can occur in Menopause patients also. I am sure already the patient is under the care of an Oncologist and he will take care and give the required treatments. He would also answer your doubts. With the details given by you it is difficult to tell anything on this forum.
Prognosis for ovarian cancer is very dependent on the stage at which it is first diagnosed. While stage I cancer may have a 95% success rate, stages III and IV may have a survival rate of 17-30% at five years post-diagnosis. Early detection remains an elusive, yet hopeful, goal of research. Also, clinical trials are addressing new drug and treatment combinations to prolong survival in women with more advanced disease. Learning one's family history may assist in early detection, and genetic studies may clarify who is at greater risk for the disease.-
Question: What is the survival rate for someone with stage 4 ovarian cancer which has spread to the brain, she is 84? my gran has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, which has spread to liver, lung and brain, she is not been given any treatment and is being kept comfortable. Could anyone advise on what we can expect, i really don't want her to suffer.
Answer: I am so sorry. It is so difficult to watch and wait while someone you love goes through this.
Each case is different, so no one can say for sure "how long". My sister made it 6 weeks after the cancer was found to have spread to her brain. She slept a lot and didn't eat much. At first, when she was awake she was quite alert, but toward the end, she was out of it most of the time.
The medication that my sister was given for pain must have been quite effective, because she didn't complain of discomfort nor were there any indications that she was in any distress. She finally simply went to sleep and didn't wake up.
God bless you and your family...
Question: how long does stage II or stage III ovarian cancer take to become stage IV? A rough time estimate would be appreciated. I already know how the stages work and the treatments. Thank you.
Answer: Aggressiveness depends on the grade. Also stage 2 and 3 ovarian cancers are 4 categories each, so obviously it will not take as long for a stage 2 as it would for a 2C. There ar no guidelines that I am aware of that tells us a timeline from one stage to the next.
Question: How long do you have to wait between rouns of chemo when you have ovarian cancer? My mom was just diagnosed with stage IIIC ovarian cancer and she is having her first round of intravenous chemo radiation tomorrow and I was wondering how long she would have to wait for the next round. I cant be with her to ask these questions but two of my other sister's are there with her.
Answer: Hello:
Very hard question because the doctor will have to go by how
your mom is doing. If her cell count goes to low than they
have to wait and with others it can be on a schedule so
that is why it is a hard question.
But call your sisters and have one of them write down all of
your moms questions on paper than go in with her and take
notes. Trust me you want someone to take notes and bring
your questions with you.
I hope this helps.
I get my chemo usually on either a 4 week or 5 week schedule.
I hand my questions to the doctor when I get in the room.
He reads them than we talk about each question. I have
found this method works best and saves him time and
helps me with all my questions or concerns.
Best of luck and be supportive of her chemo is not easy but
is needed. Keep telling her she is needed.
Question: Relative goes in to a specialist on monday for stage diagnosis of ovarian cancer she is 83 yrs old? my close relative who is 83 years old found out she has ovarian cancer, but on monday will go into a specialist to find out the stage she is in... she has been having diarrhea for the past 2 weeks and has become weak and very thin...i was thinking she maybe at a stage 3? (sounds like it has spread?) any other persons out there that might think what stage she is at?
Answer: You are asking those who answer your question (and a vast majority of the would-be contributors here aren't even qualified to answer this question) to speculate about a matter that can only be determined after the appropriate tests have been done. Everything that can be done to assess and treat her malignancy and to keep her comfortable will be done. In the meantime, she has time to prepare in the event the news is bad. The mother of my attorney was told she had ovarian cancer, and she resigned herself to the inevitable. I told her that she would be a lot more comfortable later on if she were to take steps to get her cancer diagnosed and treated rather than to suffer the miseries and shortened life span that would inevitable come if she did nothing. She heeded my advice, and it turned out that her cancer was limited to the involved ovary! She was one of the very lucky ones. I can only hope that your relative will be just as fortunate.
