Pancreas Cancer Treatment
Question: what are the treatments for pancreas cancer? a friend just got diag with it and they are going to remove it with surgey , she did not say it was life threating surgey but i want to know what surgey prod do they have for this .i know all cancer is serious . now some facts i know she said it has not spread anywhere , and the will just remove that spot .
Answer: Yes all cancers are serious, but some are more serious than others. Pancreatic cancer is one the deadliest cancers there are. There are a few procedures for surgically removing it none of which are particularly life threading, especially compared to the disease. The most common is called the Whipple procedure. After surgery is completed the doctor’s will know the extent of her disease and will discuss treatment options.
I don’t want to scare or upset you, but perhaps it is best you that you start to understand the seriousness of your friend’s condition now, rather than her to explaining it to you herself. The biggest problem she is facing is not the surgery. Her prognosis is not good. A stage 1 (localized) pancreatic cancer has a 5 year survival rate of about 16% and only about 8% are diagnosed at this stage. People with advanced disease survive 6-9 months. I hope she is one of the lucky ones.
Question: can any one please tell me some informational web site for pancreas cancer treatments?
Answer: http://www.cancer.gov/cancerinfo/pdq/tre…
http://www.cancer.gov/cancerinfo/pdq/tre…
http://www.cancer.gov/clinicaltrials
the websites listed are excellent starting points.
Question: How did Patrick Swayze overcome Cancer of the Pancreas and be making movies within a month or two? Isnt that the most deadly form of cancer, what treatment would he have had for such a quick recovery?

Question: who has been caregiver to islets cancer patient of the pancreas? Some one I Know is debating on weather to take the chemo treatment or just let islet cancer take its course. Already in the liver. 77 years old
Answer: "Whether" of not to take chemotherapy. That would not be my first choice.
Surgery and other options are available. Here's a good site :
http://www.surgery.usc.edu/divisions/tum…
There are only ~2500 cases of this per year in the U.S.
No one has a huge amount of experience with these.

Question: pancreas disorders, tomors, cancer, enlargment, ect...? I am looking for people who have had Pancreas disorders such as tumors, cancer, enlargement, or any other disorder. I would like to know what your symptoms were, diagnosis, and treatments were. I have read up on web sites but I know diseases effect different people differently also. Some do not have all the same symptoms.
Thank you
Answer: My ex-husband had all the treatment. He had alot of stomach pain and vomiting alot.He 1st went to the doctors and they told him he had to have his gallbladder removed, but still was sick.6 months later they finally confirmed, pancreas cancer in such a short time he was at stage 4 but they did the removal and also took part of his spleen.went through all the chemo and radiation which did not help and only to find out it was now in the nodes.seven of the nine removed was cancerous,he went to cancer treatment center of America and was told their is nothing they can do for him.The thing is ,he had it when they removed the gallbladder and never caught it and the doctors give him 6 months to 1 year.He passed away on January 18th at the age of 40. A before and after pic .I want you to see how it affects you so quick. We all miss him so much.
Question: My brother-in-law has cancer of the pancreas. What should I do ? He is already on the fourth stage, according to the doctors.
When he first discovered he had cancer of the pancreas, he was advised to go for organic food treatment, instead of chemotherapy.
After 8 months of organic food diet , the latest checkup showed that the cancer had spread and he is now at the fourth stage of the disease.
He is now very discouraged and have lost the will the live.
He told my wife he wants the Lord to take him home soon as the pain is unbearable .
He suffers extreme pain on his back every night at about 3am till the next morning. I can understand how difficult it is for him.
Apart from encouraging him and being with him, what else can I do to help in practical ways ?
Do you know of anyone who has recovered from cancer at the fourth stage ?
Answer: I'm SO sorry for your situation. And I have one suggestion, but no happy news. My own husband died at age 55 of pancreatic cancer this February 22 2006 at 8:14 am. Once diagnosed it is in it's advanced stage and the harsh, direct truth is there is no long life for your brother in law. I do energy healing. I don't do it for pay. I just found out I could do it and studied up on the internet. and I just do it. Pancreatic cancer is the most painful type. BUT for 5 out of his 8 months (241 days, the average, he lived exactly 241 days) he HAD NO PAIN, HE did not need the oxycontin, oxycodone etc. he was a non believer until it worked on him. Simply put, clap your hands together, rub them like they are cold, put them palm side up. ask God (if you believe in god, ask the universal wisdom if you don't ) to help you, guide you, and bring healing energy from the universe through your hands to create healing and pain relief. Put one hand on his tummy, one on his back and imagine golden light , beams, a haze, whatever works for you, passing back and forth. His wife/partner can do it too. anyone can do it. it's like the power of prayer that has been proven to be healing. Now, I'm not saying he is going to be 'healed' , he is not. Do it a couple of times a day, for 10, 20, 30 minutes at a time. My husband couldn't sit sometimes, so I'd cuddle him from behind at bedtime (spoon position) and put my hands on his mid section. Please don't 'dis' this response, because it can really work, I'm a little spacy, but I"m not a nut!!! I'm willing to talk to you in person, or email, or you can call me, .
The back pain is a natural progression. the nerves from the pancras extend around to the back. so the pain can come from the pancreas or the cancer could also be attached to those nerves. a 'celiac block' I think it is called can help a lot. but the side effects are diarreah, every treatment gives you that.
I encourage you, if you already have not done it, to get HOSPICE in there asap. they provide great meds, support for the whole family, equipment, etc. We didn't use the equipment as intended, in the last few weeks Lee got really restless (a sign the end is near) and would get out of bed to toilet. but no strength to get back, or he'd fall. I ended up using the 4-leg cane plus my own office chair with wheels to get him up and wheel him back to bed.
8 months, is pretty good, sad to say. good for the organic diet. but we went chemo and still got 8 months. It gets into the liver and that eventually shuts down, sorry to say. Also sorry to say you can't survive stage 4 pan.can. Live every day the best you can. Make every day count. Say what you need to say. Get stronger meds, like i said, hospice can get you morphine. ask about the celiac block, and for goodness sake, try the hands on healing. If you go to church, ask if there is anyone who does 'laying on of hands', look at your local natural food store for people who post that they do 'reiki' or energy work. If I was close to you, I'd do it for the cost of my gas. heck, maybe I am close to you!! THis is a sucky disease, and I am so sorry when I hear of anyone else who has it. oh, one more thing, if he takes any over the counter meds, it should NEVER be tylenol or Ibuprophin (sp?) because these both affect the liver. Alleve was the only one reccomended by my husbands oncologist. Oh yeah, and you can look into 'pancrease' a pancreatic enzyme, helps to digest food.. may be too late for that though? Eggs were the only food my husband could reliably keep down. so try no fat, nocheese omlettes or scrambled eggs for kee ping weight up. God Bless and good luck

Question: Is it ok for a Stomach Cancer Patient smoke marijuana to relieve Chemo side affects??? He has had surgery already and had spleen, lymph nodes, and pancreas removed including his whole stomach. They now told us that he might need some light radiation. I've read a lot of articles on Chemo patients smoking, drinking(in tea) to relieve the side affects of treatment. Our concern is that since he is already eating so little from having his whole stomach removed that he won't eat at all or too little once he starts undergoing chemo.
It will likely be a few weeks til he is ready for treatment since he is still recovering from surgery. My question is since he would be smoking it is it safe for him to do that. Would the smoke somehow be bad or dangerous for him??? I heard they offer it in pill form. Is this available everywhere and as effective as smoking it? These are not questions I would want to ask his doctor since it is illegal to purchase marijuana. Maybe it is. Who knows, but any and all of your help is appreciated.
The patient is my father and we live in Chicago.
Answer: The problem with illegal marijuana is that no one knows what is in it, where it has been, or whether is harbors somthing that could potentially cause harm by a severe reaction. An immune compromised cancer patient needs to be extremely careful of unknown bacteria or mold that could be lurking in something like weed. That's why it is unsafe. If he insists on smoking marijuana he must tell his doctor so that if he does have a reaction they will know how to help him. Keep in mind tht There are some herbals that will render chemo treatment less effective so it is extremely important for everyone to be on the same page. Make sure that marijuana does not intefere with his type of chemotherapy. There is a form of medical marijuana in pill form called marinol that is available by perscription. His doctor can prescribe if he asks for it.
Question: Lesions on the liver and pancreas? It may be a case of cancer. Has anyone here been treated for liver cancer and what does the treatment entail. Thankyou.
Answer: My sister is a liver cancer survivor, her treatment was a liver transplant (outside the US) and chemo
Question: cyberknife radiation? My husband just had cyberknife treatments for pancreas cancer. He had 5 treatments The plan used 35mm collimator and 211 beams to deliver 30 Gy to the 80% isodose in 5 fractions a total of 3750.00cGy.Does anyone know what this means? Thanks
Answer: The "35mm collimator" is basically just a lens that was used to focus the "211 beams" onto the tumor(s); "30 Gy" is the intensity of the doses of radiation in "centiGrays", or hundredths of a rad. An "isodose" is a pattern of doses of radiation given so that the overall dose is of equal intensity over the targetted area.
So in English, it means they used a machine to deliver equally intense radiation doses to all the cells they saw that were cancerous.
Best wishes to your husband, you do not say if this treatment is before or after surgery? Your best plan is to learn all you can...
Question: What cancers can be cured? What are the treatments that work? kidney cancer, bladder cancer, brain cancer, bone cancer, lung cancer, leukemia, breast cancer, liver cancer, pancreas cancer, colon cancer
Answer: as to what cancer can be cured? is a tricky question i believe if one can be cured the other can also be cured. only we need to look in the right direction. we in modern medicines treat cancer as an enemey it is not, it is just a symptom of something basically wrong in the system of the body, the way the the whole body works. cancer is just uncontrolled multiplication of cells it as much a part of the body as all other parts. way to treat the cancer is to treat the whole body and not the part, remove what is wrong with the body and you can cure any cancer. indian ayurvedic system has prescribed and treated cancer on these lines and has achieved a great deal of success. we need to look to alternatives from china, india anywhere we can get some insight into ancient but wise methods. stop treating cancer as an enemey to be attacked with chemicals and harmful radiations.
Question: What are the odds of a 23-year-old with lymphoma that spread to the brain beating it? my 23-year-old sister was diagnosed with lymphoma in nov 05. she had tumors in her kidneys, liver, spleen, pancreas, thyroid, and chest. all but the one's in her pancreas were gone with the chemo treatment then we discover a spot on her brain. what are the odds of her beating the cancer?
Answer: I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma when I was 22. By the time the doctors "treated" me (I had no insurance) it has spred to my kidneys, spleen, chest, neck, pelvis. Never that I know of did it ever get to the brain.
I am not sure of the odds, but this is one of the "best" cancers to get. I had an autotogolous stem cell transplant and am now in remission.
Cancer is very tricky. My cancer played tricks with me. I was due for 12 treatments. At testing during treatment #6 every tumor in my body had disappeared. I finished all treatments and 2 months later they all came back.
I pray for your sister and like they told me age is on her side. Redundant as it seems a positive outlook and love can be almost as good as the medicine.
May God be with you and your family.
Question: What are the common areas that bladder cancer metatisizes to? My aunt was diagnosed with bladder cancer 5 years ago. Had it removed and had good check-ups until the most recent one when they found a lesion on her pancreas. Noone has officially called it cancer yet and tests are still being done. She has none of the risk factors associated with pancreatic cancer, but she is set up with an oncologist for a treatment plan. My other aunt (her sister) swears it is pancreatic cancer. We aren't so sure. She has sudden weight loss, Night sweats, and abdominal pain in the upper quadrants. Could her previous bladder cancer have metatisized in her pancreas?
Answer: You didn’t say what kind of bladder cancer she had, the grade or stage, which are important pieces of information. However, the vast majority of bladder cancers are fairly superficial and about 80% recur.
The biggest problem, other than little information, I am having with weighing the possibilities, is that you state she “had good check-ups until the most recent one when they found a lesion on her pancreas.” A lesion on her pancreas would not have been found on a typical check-up for bladder cancer, so this leads me to believe that she probably had an advanced cancer. Obviously I have no way of knowing.
To answer your question bladder cancer most often metastasizes to the bone, liver and lung. You should also know that mets to the pancreas are rare regardless of the primary site.
Question: bladder cancer question? my friend was diagnossed with bladder cancer. he is in his 60's on dialysis, diabetic, has only 1 kidney and half a pancreas. they said they are doing a treatment where they spray the inside of the bladder and if it spreads then they will do chemo. what are the outcomes for bladder cancer? doctor said its aggresive. how fast does it usually spread? whats the treatment called where they spray the inside of the bladder? please help im worried?
Answer: Listen I don't know details, but just to give you some hope my best friend got diagnosed with bladder cancer when he was only three years old, and he made it through and is now a completely healthy teenager.
There is hope. Right now, be there for him in every way that you can
Question: is there such a thing as chemo once a week for life, following disapearace of tumors in pancreas.? question regards an aquaintance, that said two years ago that she had two mo to live due to pancreatic cancer, however she did not undergo surgery, or radiation, now says that the cancer has disapreared and she will undergo chemo for the rest of her life every monday, I am sceptial about what she says, as I have had family members that have had cancer , undergone the treatment of chemo, and or radiation, and none of them have to take chemo once a week for life, especially as she says now there is no sign of cancer in her body, I thnk she is out of sympathy, and from my point of view that is an awful way to get it.
sorry for mis spelled, out for sympthay not of ss
Answer: Yes, there are now new targeted therapy drugs in which the goal is to control the rate of cancer growth by taking a pill on a daily basis . . in some instances cancer is being treated like a chronic disease (there is no cure for diabetes either, but there is medication to control the disease - the same is hoped for cancer - no cure, but medication to control the disease.) So . . the only thing suspicious about what your friend says is that she is only taking the pill once a week? It's possible, but I did think it was a daily thing.
Look into the following targeted therapy chemo drug
Erlotinib, there are others still in Clinical Trials within the same family of drugs being researched for pancreatic cancer.
