Pancreatic Cancer Prognosis

Question: Pancreatic Cancer - whats the prognosis??

Answer: Hello Cyanara It's not good im afraid. Carcinoma of the pancreas is known as one of the 'silent killers' At diagnosis, unfortunately, only about 5% of patients survive (UK stats) Cancer of the pancreas develops slowley and produces no symptoms at all, and it is only when it is really advanced it produces symptoms, usually retrosternal pain, that it is discovered. Surgery and chemo/radio therapy produces a hand full of survivors buts thats it im afraid. If there is a history of pancreatic cancer in your family, yearly abdominal scans may be helpful but I think that would have to be via the private route.
