Pancreatic Cancer Research
Question: What is the name of Pancreatic Cancer Research Project at one of the universities in Western Canada.?
A Dr. was given a govt. grant to investigate pancreatic cancer at one of Canada's western universities-name of Dr. and Project?I wish to make a donation.
Answer: Malcolm J. Moore, MD
Dr Moore is a Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology at Princess Margaret Hospital, University of Toronto and Chair of the National Cancer Institute of Canada Gastrointestinal Disease Site. Dr. Moore also directs the new drug development program at Princess Margaret Hospital/Ontario Cancer Institute. Princess Margaret Hospital is Canada’s largest cancer treatment and research institute and sees over 13,000 new cancer patients each year. Dr. Moore has been the lead investigator on 4 international phase III clinical trials in pancreatic cancer
Question: Pancreatic Cancer Research? Pancreatic cancer is the 4th leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. By the time you notice any symptoms, it's too late (stage 4). Yet, research and funding for pancreatic cancer is very low. (http://www.driveforthemarker.org/pancreaticcancer.html)
Why is this???
Answer: Probably because no one is fighting for the research and most people with that kind of cancer do not survive or live for very long after being diagnosed. There's lots of activity for the prevention and treatment of breast cancer and prostate cancer. See what you can find out to get the word out about how important it is to research this.
Question: Isn't it about time SOMEONE finds a cure for PANCREATIC CANCER!! A wonderful person 56 is dying right now!! Is the cancer research for pancreatic and all other horrible cancers a racket for researchers, drug companies and doctors to make money? WHAT IS GOING ON HERE!
Answer: I am sorry about your loved one it is very hard to watch someone you love die and there is nothing you can do about it. Two years ago this month I lost a dear sweet caring doctor I work with to pancreatic cancer. We all felt helpless, because we were.
The problem with pancreatic cancer isn’t that we do not have a cure, we do, its surgery. The problem is we do not have a screening exam to catch it early enough to do the surgery.
Cancer is not a money making racket. I live in Los Angeles County where we have had so many hospitals close it is now commonplace for people to wait over 40 hours in the ER to get a room. Hospitals do not close because they are making money.
I am able to make a living because of cancer but that doesn’t mean I want people to continue to suffer from it. If a cure were found tomorrow I would be the happiest person in the unemployment line.
Question: What is the correct and incorrect mechanism of pancreatic cancer? What does this actually mean? I tried to research the
"mechanisms" of pancreatic cancer, but I couldn't find anything. Please help :)
Answer: Is this a multiple choice question? I don’t really know what they want, but mechanism means the process to achieve an end. So I read it as meaning the correct and incorrect treatment, but treating cancer is not that cut and dried.
Question: Cancer Research Benefit? My grandpa recently died of pancreatic cancer. He was a very well known man, and I have several people whom worked under the many businesses he owned who have decided to partner with me in putting together a Pancreatic Cancer Research Benefit, in his honor.
I am only sixteen, and I'm heading up this large project. I need a list of the many things which will be necessary in making this possible. Beyond the obvious food music and sponsors.
Answer: Contact the pancreatic research center nearest you, and they will not only advise you, they may well help with the planning.
Question: Who discovered Pancreatic Cancer? i've been assigned a project where i have to do research on Pancreatic Cancer. I've searched many sites for the discoverer of this cancer, but i can't seem to find it. could someone please tell me and give me a link to it, to use in the bibliography? thanks.
Answer: We say some diseases are "discovered" by individuals because they have recognised a combination of symptoms, physical signs and an outcome or prognosis as related (ie they "put it all together") where no one has clicked to this before.
This has mainly happened for rare diseases (common ones have been understood for a long time by many people) and in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries (because of increasing knowledge of medicine and increasing population -- more people have the rare disease).
Pancreatic cancer often causes jaundice. This is yellow skin and is an obvious sign. Ancient physicians in Egypt, Greece, China, etc. would have recognised this and linked it with a poor outcome. However, there is no record that they understood it was due to a tumour deep inside the abdomen, specifically the pancreas. So they had a partial grasp of the disease.
It was only when examining dead bodies was acceptable culturally did people find these tumours. One of the early "pathologists", but not necessarily the first, to find these tumours was Giovanni Battista Morgagni (1682-1771).
So, in answer to your question, no single person discovered pancreatic cancer.
Question: Does anyone know anything about pancreatic cancer? My grandmother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer about last November. I did research, but it didn't help very much. So I was just wondering does anyone know the average life span for a pancreatic cancerous patient? Do you know of anyone that has survived? Or ANYTHING about it, if so, please tell me!
Answer: CANCER - PANCREATIC CANCER -
For answering various questions asked by you, we should know several details and history of disease to tell you something correctly. Without the details, if I given any information, it will be wrong and I do not want to do that since Cancer is still an enigma and we have to give treatments correctly.
You should have informed the age of the patient, general health of the patient, stage and grade of the disease, what are the treatments viz. surgery, chemotherapy and Radiation therapy given to her so far. When the disease is diagonalized in November last year and she has been carrying on in these 10 months., she should get cured shortly, by giving correct treatements. I also feel it should be in the initial stages say - stage I or II so in all propobility she would surviv or long time. I pray for her speedy recovery.
Best of luck-
Question: What is the origin of Pancreatic Cancer? I need the genesis of pancreatic cancer. The who what when where why how. Can anyone help me out?
Also, does anyone know what current research and technology is being done on this topic?

Check out this link from John's Hopkins. It is from10 yrs ago but you still might find it helpful

Question: Cancer Research? Why is so much research needed for each individual body part that? IE; skin cancer, lung cancer, pancreatic cancer. isnt all the same?
Answer: A very good question, they say they are not all the same, but recent studies shows that they may have the same cause.... a toxic body, which compromises the immune system.
So, what to do?
Eat your fruit and veggies, relax and rest , don't overeat, drink clean water, walk heaps and think healthy thoughts and associate with healthy people.
That's what I did to regain my health from cancer, all it really means is to get back to basics.
Question: I was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Are there any GOOD stories out there? I've been trying to do research online but everything comes up with bad news, or news about Patrick Swayze.
It doesn't help that this kind of cancer is usually found in older people and I'm 22.
Thanks for your help.
Answer: Survival rate really depends on when it was diagnosed. It usually has no symptoms whatsoever until it's spread beyond the pancreas and by then, it's too late. The treatment is mainly tons of chemo and controlling the spread. If it's caught early by chance, then surgery is probably the best option. Patrick Swayze has done remarkably well and he's lived over a year now. He even has a new series coming out on a&e that I can't wait to see. I saw the Barbara Walters special with him and his wife of over 30 years and I cried through the whole show.
It's a horrible disease and less than 5% live to 5 years.
Question: Do I have pancreatic cancer? I'm really afraid of cancer because I watched my grandpa slowly and painfully die from it. I believe he had prostate cancer.
I was doing some research on cancers and learning how to prevent it and learned that pancreatic cancer is usualy always caught in a late stage and is untreatable. Are there any ways I can prevent pancreatic cancer, or any cancer for that fact, and some signs and symptoms of early stage? Also, how are some ways to get checked for it?
I don't smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol, or do any drugs. I have a mixed diet of high-fat foods and I eat fruits and vegetables and other healthy foods too. I am not overweight and I'm not sure if I have diabetes. Can smoking a few cigarettes and then stopping give you the same chance of getting cancer as someone who smokes all the time for years?
Lately I've been having abdominal pain, nausea, and weakness. I have panic disorder and I wonder if this may just be panic attacks or something. Sometimes I think being sick is just in my head and I'm crazy, and sometimes I wonder if it's true. Lately I've been depressed off and on (like happy one minute and hopeless the next) and during these times feel the symptoms I mentioned earlier, and sometimes feeling sick causes my depression.
Could somebody please give me any information they can about pancreatic cancer, preventing it, and anything about other cancers.
I'd also like to know some other things causing these symptoms and if it's possible for a white, 14 year old has a good chance for pancreatic cancer?
Does anyone have any suggestions on asking my mom to take me to the doctors. I've asked her before and she said that there's nothing wrong with me. Then again I only told her that I've been having panic attacks, but nothing else.
Answer: As someone who also suffers with anxiety I can tell you right now that this is the old hyperchondria/paranoia rearing its head.
You need to get your panic issues sorted out, or you'll work your way through every illness/disease there is, convincing yourself you have it. I did.
Stomach pains, nausea, weakness - all things that panic can cause. Go to a doctor, and not to find out if you have pancreatic cancer - to get some anti-anxiety meds and find out where you can get counselling, because you need it.
I know you came on here wanting to find out about pancreatic cancer, but believe me I totally recognise your train of thought. You're 14 and you're no more at risk from any form of cancer than anyone else. Smoking a few cigarettes does not give you anywhere near the same chance of getting cancer as proper addicts.
Just put all worries about cancer and the like out your head, and start tackling this anxiety problem, because it's the only problem you have here, but it's big enough to take over your life.
You don't have pancreatic cancer, and you're not going to get it. You do have a big anxiety problem.
Chalice
EDIT: One last important tip: DO NOT research illnesses. All that will happen is you'll convince yourself you've got them all. Don't read anything about any illnesses at all. If you're ever concerned about your health, go to a doctor for some rational advice, do not start scaring yourself.
Question: How can I start helping others w/ Pancreatic Cancer? My mom died of PC June 14.... and I did ALOT of researching on it!! I want to do something to help others w/ this horrible disease!!! Answer: Have you googled this? Adenocarcinoma is the most common type of pancreatic cancer. There's a ton of info on the Web.
Question: Would anyone like to donate reipes to help me create a cookbook? I am putting together a cookbook to raise money to help my Grandparents with some bills (like gas to put in there car to drive to and from appointments) that will be coming in do to my Grandpa just getting diagnosed with panreatic cancer. What does not go to them will go to the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.

Question: Pancreatic Cancer Help? Hello All,
Everyone knows one of these people I am going to tell you about. Everyone says, "I wish I could do something to help them" when it is too late. Now is the time to help him, because it is not too late and with your help he and thousands of other people just like him will be able to beat this.
Now for his story:
Stephen Wood former United States Marine and New Canaan Police Lieutenant was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He always put people ahead of himself in every capacity of his life and is still doing so with his Wife, 2 Daughters plus 2 Son-In-Laws, and three beautiful grandsons that are between the ages of 6 months and 3 years. Mr. Wood enjoys riding his Harley, going to the gym (yes he is still going to the gym, working out harder than most) and spending time with his family. Mr. Wood is not going to stop his life because he beat this terrible cancer once and he will beat it again. The sooner he beats it the better! This can only help with new research to do with Pancreatic Cancer because as so many of you know Patrick Swayze just passed away from this. So please help me in a donation to do a Pancreatic Cancer walk on November 1st in Danbury Connecticut. It will not only help Mr. Wood and his family who wants him to be around as long as possible, it will help thousands if not millions that have been or will be diagnosed with this terrible Cancer.
I am so many other people appreciate and donation that is made from $1 to $1000 dollars. It all adds up and can help.

Answer: In the pancreas cancer, cancer cells are found in the pancreas’s tissue. The pancreas cancer is tenth most common cancer. The Pancreas is the part of digestion system of our body and located in behind our stomach and in front of our spine. The pancreas is the collection of glands that are responsible for various tasks in our body. The pancreas is approximately six inch long and look like a leaf of a plant. Our body makes digestive juice and insulin in the pancreas. So the pancreas is important in our body for produce the digestive juice and insulin. On the basis of jobs, pancreas is divided in two parts. First is exocrine pancreas and second is endocrine pancreas. Exocrine pancreas is responsible for produce the digestive juice and endocrine pancreas is responsible for produce the insulin and hormone.
The digestive system of our body digests the food eaten by us. After the stomach, partially digested food moves into the duodenum and pancreas release the digestive juices which mix with the food. This juice break the partially digest food into small fragments that absorbed into body.
Insulin is very important for our body. Insulin make in endocrine pancreas. Insulin controls the level of sugar in our body.
Question: I am not sure what to do, I have to make a creative project for Pancreatic Cancer.... help? ideas? I have a project due in about two weeks. I had to write a 10 page research paper, and a slideshow. The only thing thats left is a creative project. I was thinking of making a game, where you have to find the Cancer Tumor, nut you cannot kill the patient. Does that sound good? Any other ideas I should consider? Thanks
Answer: Yes that sounds great! Maybe you could add cards ( like chance cards in Monopoly) that say things like "sorry not enough funding for research" or "your a candidate for the whipple procedure!" ect... I'm glad your bringing awareness to this cancer, good luck, I hope you get a excellent grade.
