Skin Cancer Prevention
Question: How has technology assisted in the research on, and/or prevention of Skin Cancer? Thanks heaps - very much appreciated! ;-)
Answer: The advancement of technology has helped researchers emulate the certain conditions of the possible cause of skin cancer without exposing the subjects to the real danger of contracting the diseases.
Question: How has technology assisted in the prevention of Skin Cancer? Thanks heaps ;-)
Answer: Technology has assisted in the prevention of skin cancer in a number of ways:
(1) Improved understanding of the causes of skin cancer
- particularly childhood sun exposure and particularly sun-burn damage
(2) Increased public awareness of skin cancer as a health issue
- "slip slop slap" campaign in Australia urging the public to slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen and slap on a hat
- patients presenting to doctors earlier allowing earlier diagnoses
(3) Better sun protection technology
- Improved sun screens - now SPF 30+ and I have seen some claiming to be SPF 60+ ... also make up with incorporated sun screen
- sun protective clothing
(4) Better early detection
- Local Doctor awareness, skin lesion surveillance
- Dermatoscopy
- Improved early referral and definitive treatment (surgical excision)
Question: natural skin cancer prevention? what's a natural way to prevent getting melanoma, but still getting a tan? (other than sunscreen) please and thanks:)
Answer: I can only think of spray tan.
Question: Skin cancer slogans..? our class has to design an actual billboard about skin cancer prevention. do you have any good ideas on short slogans we can write on the billboard to make people more aware of skin cancer? it can be about sunblock, protective clothing, skin check ups, staying out of the sun, or just a general one.
the examples our teacher gaves us:
"the healthiest tan is no tan"
"its never too late or too early to start preventing skin cancer"
thank you :]
Answer: Make like an eclipse and block the sun.
Question: Does anyone know about a simple device to use at home to detect skin cancer? I know for sure that American Academy of Dermatology's Skin Academy designed for patients a device simple enough to use at home for skin cancer detection. Also I remember watching Doctors talk show. One dermatologist showed how he used special light on skin to spot anything unusual. This show was about prevention.
Answer: I believe you misheard. They are offering free skin tests
doctors have been working on such tests, none are approved by FDA. there are too many false positives
there are home DNA tests to check for the likelihood of cancer, not a diagnostic for skin or other cancers
Question: Is it smart to have a VP who denies medical fact regarding skin cancer, and sets the example to American youth? ...that a tanning bed is desirable? Sarah Palin installed a tanning bed in the Governor's Mansion as one of her first acts as elected official. Despite all cancer research to the contrary. Is that stupid?
"Gov. Palin’s use of a mansion-based tanning system even goes against the judgment of her state’s own public health agency, which issued a report, called the Alaska Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan 2005-2010, that describes cancer as “the leading cause of death in Alaska,” and specifically calls for encouraging “regulations warning consumers about tanning beds and the risk of skin cancer.”
“Tanorexia” and Youth
Missouri University recently became the latest school to attempt to ban tanning beds on campus, due to the health risks for students.
Other health organizations warn of young people becoming addicted to tanning bed sessions, and label the condition as “tanorexia”:
Researchers at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia examined the tanning habits of 400 college students aged 18 to 24, using the same framework that defines substance addictions. They found that 27 per cent showed signs of “tanorexia,” based on answers to questions like “Do you think you need to spend more and more time in the sun to maintain your perfect tan?” and “Does this (your belief that tanning can cause skin cancer) keep you from spending time in the sun or going to tanning beds?”
Then, of course, is the fact that Palin’s running mate, presidential candidate John McCain, is himself a survivor of skin cancer and has been active legislating and advocating for its prevention. In 2001, he wrote a cover essay for Newsweek: “My Battle With Skin Cancer.”
So while McCain is out there campaigning for cancer prevention as a public health issue, appearing at joint forums with cancer survivor Lance Armstrong and such, his own vice president’s tanning bed habit could undercut that message, particularly to the nation’s youth."
Answer: No it isn't smart. Its stupid beyond belief. She is full of contradictions. Here she is possibly, hopefully not, VP with a running mate who has had skin cancer and she has a tanning bed. What a pig. Oh she is soooo bugging me in every way.
Question: Skin Cancer/Science Question? How has technology assisted in the research on, and/or prevention of Skin Cancer?
Thanks heaps ;-)
Thanks - I've tried doing that, but It's not coming up with anything - so I decided 2 try yahoo! answers ;-)
Answer: I think this is a homework essay question that you need to research yourself. You can just as easily type in those keywords in a search engine. Hint, think about the technology that you are using right now.

Question: I have to write an article for the health section in the local paper..? I was thinking that I'd profile a doctor and do a Q&A on skin cancer prevention, how to do self checks, signs to look for, etc. Would that be a good idea? I dont have much time, the article is due on friday.
Answer: Yes it is. This article should be 350-700 words in lenght be sure to ask all the questions and get a story out of him.,
\\need help email me im a jounalist.
Question: could i get skin cancer? i want to move to australia after college, but i have a birth mark on the top of my back and im frightened il get skin cancer. my uncle died from it so therefore i know how horrible it can be. What kind of prevention is out there??
=]
apart from sun screen..that sometimes doesnt work..
Answer: what part of australia? i've been to the east coast and to NZ and found it to be very similar climate to the US east coast (reversed lattitudes, though) sun intensity will vary with where you live on the continent. that being said, if it's cold, you'll be wearing long sleeves anyway, so don't worry about it.
go to a dermatologist and ask for their recommendations.
always best to cover it up, but the derm may have a more liberating option, such as laser removal, etc.
have fun down under!
Question: "Veni, Vidi, Vici" -- is there anything comparable in modern English? A neighbour and I were debating this earlier. He was of the opinion that modern English doesn't have the capacity to be so concise and meaningful anymore. Since the closest equivalent I could think of was the "Slip, Slop, Slap" skin cancer prevention campaign, I almost agree.
Can anyone restore my faith in the English language? Is there anything in English as good as "I came, I saw, I conquered"?
Answer: I think there are a few examples...
When the Germans asked General McAuliffe to surrender his forces in Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge his response was, "Nuts." One word. Big message.
Now I think if you take the latin quote from Ceasar which you used you have to consider articles in your word count. Veni vidi vici is three words, but LAtin doesnt require that one use the word "I" every time. So I think technically the Caesar quote is 6 words.
So what compares....
Roosevelt: We have nothing to fear but fear itself. (8 words)
John Paul Jones: I have not yet begun to fight. (7 words)
Rodney King: Cant we all just get along? (6 words)
I dont know if that's what you were looking for, but that's my answer.
Question: can someone please check my conclusion for my speech? my teacher said it was too boring and didnt grab any attention my speech is about skin cancer prevention
if you take precautions now you may be able to fight off any chances of skin cancer in the future if you just put on sunblock while your at the beach or wear sunglasses when you walk outside you would be ensuring that you live a long happy life you can still go out and have fun but remember to liv eit up and cover up
any help would be great
thanks
Answer: if you just take some time to put on sunblock and wear sunglasses when you're outside, you will be able to have a happy future and non- regretful past. skin cancer is preventable, so skip the worry and cover up :)
eh, its not that amazing. but i hope it gave you some ideas.

Question: Birth Marks on Face Prevention? Help Please.? i am 17 years old. i have always had numerous birth marks, not big or strange ones. ive been to a dermatologist and i'm going again soon. my grandmother passed away from skin cancer so they take extra precautions. i already have almost twice the amount of birth marks i should for my age and older. i find new ones on my body and it worries me, but not as much as on my face. theyre flat and small but obviously i can notice them. its just worrying me. i wear sunscreen all the time to try and prevent them but i guess its not working? its making me really worried, is there anything else i can do to prevent from getting more or get rid of them?
Answer: If you are finding "new ones" then that is not a birthmark...might be a mole or something else...only a dermatologist can say for sure...or a school nurse could look at them and see what she thinks.
Question: How has Fish Oil helped you? I have the "Nature Made" Omega-3 Fish Oil 1200 from the Health food store.
I'm taking two a day, if that should be enough.
I actually started using it because I'm sorta losing my hair and I want it to stop falling out...I hear it helps your skin and hair...and so much more like depression, prevention of Cancer...idk, research yourself that's what I read.
Any experiences please? How has Fish Oil helped you?
And will it really help with hair loss problems?
Answer: We all lose around 100 hairs every day.
That aside, I took fish oil for years for a painful hip joint to no effect, so gave up.
Prefer to eat my fish and 2 tylenol with a cup of coffee sorts out the hip pain.
