Skin Cancer Research
Question: How can I set up bins at stores, like Walmart that people can donate money for skin cancer research? i want to start my own foundation/program for that. how do i start? who do i contact? who do i send the money to? i want to make a difference. please help me. thank you so much.
Answer: The laws vary from state to state on what you would have to do. You may need to register as a non-profit corporation both with the Internal Revenue Service as well as your state government (specifically, the Secretary of State or a similar division that governs corporations) in order to even have the legal ability to collect money. Some states, though, may allow you as an individual to solicit donations to remit to another charity -- it's best to see what the laws are in your state first, before you solicit donations.
Additionally, stores like Wal-Mart have policies that require persons to obtain permission to solicit donations in their stores, so you'll also have to ask those stores whether you're even allowed to ask for money there.
Question: I am doing a research on melanoma skin cancer and need a primary source. Would you know of a primary source? I am doing a research on melanoma skin cancer and need a primary source. Would you know of a primary source for melanoma skin cancer?
Answer: Talk with a Dermatologist. They can give you all the information that you need/
Question: Evidence or research into Skin cancer and Ultraviolet light exposure? Hi there I am doing a research project into whether or not it is responsible for gyms and salons to provide tanning beds (especially unstaffed beds) in light of evidence that too much UV light can cause cancer.
Does anyone know of any research undertaken showing this link or any graphs or numerical data etc just to demonstrate my point.
Thanks for the help.
Answer: I have attached links to some sites that I think will give you the info you are looking for.
This includes a link to the World Health Organisation.
Question: If a chemical in a skin care product causes cancer, would you let your teen use it? A lot of the teens on the skin care board are really using a lot of benzoyl peroxide. Should these products maybe state on the label or something that benzoyl peroxide is used to induce skin cancer in lab animals for skin cancer research?
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez…
Department of Dermatology Skin Diseases Research Center, University Hospitals of Cleveland, OH.
It is known that the free-radical-generating compound, benzoyl peroxide (BPO) enhances malignant conversion of murine skin benign papillomas into carcinomas.
If there is such a difference between rodent and human skin, why are they using the rodents to test skin cancer drugs for humans? What, the results of the drug tests are okay and helpful for humans but how we get it is different?
FDA MedWatch...
Benzoyl peroxide has been shown to be a tumor promoter and progression agent in a
number of animal studies. The clinical significance of this is unknown.
Benzoyl peroxide in acetone at doses of 5 and 10 mg administered twice per week induced
skin tumors in transgenic Tg.AC mice in a study using 20 weeks of topical treatment.
In a 52 week dermal photocarcinogenicity study in hairless mice, the median time to onset
of skin tumor formation was decreased and the number of tumors per mouse
increased following chronic concurrent topical administration of BenzaClin Topical Gel
with exposure to ultraviolet radiation (40 weeks of treatment followed by 12 weeks of
observation).
http://www.fda.gov/medwatch/SAFETY/2005/…
If it is used to turn benign papillomas (like a pimple) to malignant papillomas in lab animals at ONLY 5-10% applied ONLY 2 times a week from ONE source, How can the chem manufacturer state that it doesn't?
Answer: That's horrible! All those companies care about is money and they don't care about people. They'd rather sell a dangerous product to millions of people, versus going out of business!
Anyways, no. I wouldn't let my kid use it.
And for the person who said that the FDA would take that off the shelves if it caused cancer, the FDA keeps lots of drugs on the shelves knowing that they're dangerous.
Question: I want to host a 5K road race in my community (rural NH) to benifit skin cancer research. Where do i start? i know i need permits, sponsors, get the course certified etc. i've run circles online trying to find a good jumping off point - what should be my first step?
additional detail - from wicked rural NH. no running club or any other such thing to speak of.
Answer: I'd throw the idea at others to see if this is actually something your community would participate in. If so, then talk to some local businesses, radio, tv to possible get some sponsors and media coverage on the race. I would also take a trip to city hall and speak with someone there about any permits that might be required as well as getting sections of the town reserved for the race grounds.
Overall, it sounds like a great/fun idea and I hope it works out for you.

Question: I am writing a research paper on skin cancer and need a creative title... I need it fast! Thanks in advance!? It is an 8th grade 4 page long paper (about 2 pages single spaced) about skin cancer. The main focus is about how the environment affects the probability of acquiring skin cancer...but if the title is just about skin cancer in general I think it could work. Thank yo so much in advance! Also if anyone has and idea for what picture I should put on my title page I would really appreciate it! Thank you all so much in advance!
Answer: -"The Deadly Sun"
-"An Enviroment Against Us"
-"A Killer in Your Own Backyard" (or "An Unseen Killer in Your Own Backyard" or something like that)
-"Glamorous Death" (tanning is so "cool" and "glam" but it's deadly)
-"Dangerous Rays"
-"The Sun at It's Worst"
These titles might be a little intense, sorry if you don't like them!
Pictures? never heard of doing that but here are some:
http://ipcvision.com/page03/sun/sun-03bc…
http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/image/sun_skyl…
search "sun" or "tanning" and you'll get some good picture on Google images or Yahoo images
best wishes,

Question: How has technology assisted in the research on, and/or preventation of Skin Cancer? Thanks heaps ;-)
Answer: It is has a very wide scope!
-Finding the causes by studying the cases,
- Educating the people,
-Making rules and regulations to avoid exposure to the carcinogens
- Measures to establish early diagnosis to improve the outcome.
I think you may find one or two more points for this.
Good luck!
Question: Looking for the best laymen's explanation of why cumulative sun exposure significantly increases skin cancer I have been researching skin cancer as I live in Hawaii and wanted to find out where I could read a bit on the topic of the risk of skin cancer resulting from cumulative exposure (in other words, 10-15 minutes a day).
Thanks!
Answer: 10 -15 min a day is healthy. You need the vitamin D. When we get red / burned is where the damage comes in. The repeated assault on the skin causes the cells to be in a prolonged state of repair - rejuvenation. These are damaged cells and it is easier for some of that damage to be a cancer (really just damaged cells replicating themselves at a rapid rate). The skin is thickening to protect itself so you get that nice shoe leather look.
Question: One 20 year old a day is diagnosed with skin cancer? Should there be more done in schools etc to educate young girls and boys of the dangers of not using sun protection?
How can the sun bed and staying in the sun until you are burnt trend be bucked? After all there are a great many fake tans on the market now that react with your skin so that you actually turn a tan colour rather than a lovely shade of tangerine
http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2009/apr/08/skin-cancer-research-young-women-danger-sun-beds
Answer: The government need to treat sun bed use with the same gusto that they do with giving up smoking and tax it into oblivion. Having managed to survive Malignant Melanoma, the deadliest skin cancer, I can assure young folk that it definitely not worth the risk of getting burned. It can take up to 20 years for the cancer to show itself from the time of burning so it does not mean that you have got away with it at any one time. As they say 'time will tell' and it does without mercy.
Question: Is there any correlation between the environmental and hereditary factors that lead to skin cancer? I am doing a little research on the topic of skin cancer and I haven't been able to find the answer to this question anywhere. Please help. :)
Answer: Cancer is rarely hereditary if that is what you mean.
Hereditary factors such as having red hair, fair skin and blue eyes and living near the equator places you at a high risk.
Question: My son has a research project, any info on skin cancer?
Yo Anubhutti S My skin is fine my sons research project isn't
Answer: Tell him to check out Keratosis on the nets. It's a precursor to cancer and if left unchecked can lead to skin cancer.People who work outdoors and sun lovers are prone to it.
Question: What type of cancer should i do, for my research proj.? I have to make a brochure on a type of cancer, and i don't really know which type i should do, i have ike 20 people in my class, and i want to do something different from anyone(no breast or skin cancer), so what should i do..thanks
Answer: My "favorite" kind of cancer [meaning the one I personally find most interesting to study, being that I want to be an oncologist when I grow up] is brain cancer. The brain is so complex and such a mystery even in our day and age that studying it and diseases and conditions relating to it make for good discussion topics.
www.cancer.org is a very thorough, informational site that I suggest you check out
Leukemias and other blood cancers are also interesting to study due to the vastness of the circulatory system and the affect on the rest of the body that a blood disease can have.
Hope this helps and good luck! ;-)
Question: Do you know of any sites that have interviews or testimonials about Blacks who have skin cancer? I am working on a project about African Americans who have skin cancer, and I am looking for testimonials about people who have endured this disease. I realize that many people are unaware of this topic, but it is a growing issue that I am researching. I will appreciate any help I can receive on this topic.
