Stomach Cancer
Question: Priest has stomach cancer, Can you tell me about stomach cancer? Our parish priest has stomach cancer, i don't know a thing about it can anyone tell me about it?
Answer: What Is Stomach Cancer?
Cancer of the stomach, or gastric cancer, is a disease in which stomach cells become malignant (cancerous) and grow out of control, forming a tumor. Almost all (95%) of stomach cancers start in the glandular tissue that lines the stomach. The tumor may spread along the stomach wall or may grow directly through the wall and shed cells into the bloodstream or lymphatic system. Once beyond the stomach, cancer can spread to other organs.
Stomach cancers are classified according to the type of tissue where they originate. The most common, adenocarcinomas, start in the glandular stomach lining. Other forms include lymphomas, which involve the lymphatic system, and sarcomas, which involve the connective tissue (muscle, fat, or blood vessels).
Although the number of stomach cancer cases has declined over the past 60 years, it is still the seventh leading cause of cancer death in the United States. The exact cause of stomach cancer is unknown, but most are believed to result from exposure to carcinogens (various cancer-causing agents), especially nitrates -- substances found in prepared foods (especially meats) that are dried, smoked, salted, or pickled. Carcinogens cause errors in the genetic code that controls growth and repair of cells.
Various medical conditions are associated with an increased risk of developing stomach cancer. These include gastritis, pernicious anemia, gastric polyps, and gastric (peptic) ulcer. Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), a bacterium that infects the lining of the stomach and causes chronic inflammation and ulcers, may also increase the risk of stomach cancer. There is a slightly increased risk of stomach cancer in people who use tobacco or drink alcoholic beverages regularly.
People who work in certain industries are also at greater risk, including those in the coal mining, nickel refining, and rubber and timber processing industries, and those exposed to asbestos fibers.
Stomach cancer is most often seen in men over 55, and is more common in Japan, Korea, parts of Eastern Europe, and Latin America than in the United States and Canada. This is thought to be related to the common diet in these countries that consists of nitrate-containing, salted foods, especially meat and fish.
Stomach cancer can often be cured if it is found and treated at an early stage. Unfortunately, the outlook is poor if the cancer is already advanced.
Ps. I took this information from www. webmd.com if you need more information.. or want to check for your self... try the web.
good luck... and an sorry for your priest...
Question: Is it possible to have your entire stomach removed due to cancer, and still survive? Intravenous nutrition? My husbands grandmother lives abroad and shes suffering from stomach cancer. I cant ascertain whether it has spread anywhere else, but if its just the stomach, the whole stomach, could it be entirely removed and her survive?
Answer: Yes, the entire stomach can be removed. Her surgeon would than attach the esophagus to the small intestine. Not sure what the quality of life would be after such a procedure, so you may want to do more research. I have heard that after a total gastrectomy that a patient can eventually begin eating 'normally' again, but will eat smaller portions. Our sons surgical oncologist told us that almost every thing in the body can be removed, replaced, or revamped other than organs critical to sustain life.
Question: How do you take care of a stomach cancer patient? I need to do a project about stomach cancer and I need to know how you diagnose it or something like that....I guess
Answer: Stomach cancer is diagnosed using an EGD (esophagastroduodenoscopy).
This test basically consist of going to the hospital and being put into a twilight sleep while the gastroenterologist runs a scope thru your mouth into your stomach. The scope, usually called an olymposcope has special tools on the end of it so the doctor can pinch biopsy tissue out of the stomach if he sees anything looking suspicous. They examine the stomach and see if there are any ulcers or suspicious looking lesions which need to be biopsied.
It takes about less than 10 minutes to run the scope into the stomach and then they remove it and you wake back up.
The biopsy samples are sent to pathology where they are examined under a microscope to determine if they are malignant or benign and give the gastroenterologist a diagnosis.
The gastroenterologist examines so many people every day thru EGD examination, they can sometimes tell if something is suspicious for malignancy just by looking at it.
Question: what is the mortality rate of patients with advanced stomach cancer? My daughter was diagnosed last night with an advanced case of stomach cancer. The doctor says it has been there for at least two years, judging from the size and number of the masses. Also, the cancer is progressing into her intestines. Please. I need to know not only for myself, but to prepare her as well. And no doctor will tell me, as I am not the patient, and she is over 18.
Answer: How old is your daughter and what was the diagnosis . . did you hear the words desmoplastic small round cell tumor or Gastrointestinal stromal tumor or stomach cancer? Please ask the doctor for the specific pathology of the cancer as this will determine your daughters treatment options.

There is a type of treatment called cytoreductive surgery and peritoneal hyperthermic chemoperfusion that is showing good results for patients with abdominal cancers. You would need to check with her doctors to see if she qualifies. My son underwent this treatment and had tremendous benefit.

As far as mortality rates go . . people are not statisitics, they are individuals and each cancer is different. Mortality rates mean very little. Just focus on getting your daughter the best treatment possible.
Question: What are the symptoms of stomach cancer? 2 monthes ago my husband felt like a small knot or like a ball upright his stomach , and not its even bigger.
He was having some dirrahea and then constibation, then dark stool for a while , but he is afraid to go to doctor.
So, iwonder if this would be symptoms of cancer , Thanx
Answer: Good luck.
Question: What are the main causes of stomach cancer? oh crap! I'm just curious, how the hell does someone or what causes stomach cancer is it sodium nitrate? Uh i dunno really.
Answer: All cancers are caused by a rapid growth of abnormal cells. If scientists knew what caused these cells to suddenly start growing, there would be no more cancers! No one knows this answer.
Question: what happens after stomach cancer is in remission? what happens after a person has stomach cancer and has part of their stomach removed? I mean 3 years after remission? How does the person feel? How does their lifestyle change? What new fears are there? Do you have to see the oncologist, dietician all the time still?
Answer: well, i had a friend who had stomach cancer for the second time. he had his stomach removed. Careful of harsh things he eats....never too spicy...and never too much..just eats a lot of times per day....careful of stomach bleeding....but i have a cure for it now.....
Please stop the chemo therapy. Doctors dont want you to know of the alternative medicines that can actually cure cancer. If a doctor tells you the alternative medicines, they will be out of a job. How much does it cost for chemo therapy each time you take in those chemicals? This medicine is better and only $75 dollars a bottle. Each bottle lasts a month. You take an ounce per day, and after each dose, you eat a banana or eat potatoes. its called "CESIUM CHLORIDE."
The problem with chemo therapy is that they always say that they never know how each person will be affected by the chemicals. You could die the next day, or you can die in a month. BUT, you cannot live past 2 years. So, its not a good garauntee that you will extend your life for 2 years. The reason is because chemo therapy is a toxin. A poison that kills your body. And if it kills the cancers before it kills you then you are cured. And if the cancer dies before you die, you probably wont live past 5 years. Because even after the cancer is killed, your body is completely deteriorated. I bet you cannot ask 100 people who knew someone who went to chemo therapy and lived more then 5 years after defeating cancer. You might get lucky and find like 2 people. What are your chances that you will be that 2 lucky people that live? So, how good of a cure can chemo therapy be?
The key to defeating cancer is all over the net. But the people who sell these alternatives cannot say on their labels that their medicines cure cancer. It is against FDA rules. The reason is because if this is done, then doctors, hospitals, and pharmaceautical companies cannot make any money. So, according to FDA, it has to be stated on the bottles that it is for vitamins only, etc etc.
You can go find these medicines and take care of your cancers in 3 to 12 months. Just listen to me as I dont make anything off of this. I am only here to help. I am sick of these doctors and big companies making money off dyng people. Doctors wont tell you either. Its against their rules. Well, gee, they were ones who created these rules, so go figure. I believe there were like alot of medicines that take care of cancers. There is a top 10 list somewhere. I think cesium chloride is listed number 1 or 2 on the list.
I found a good bottle of this on www.nutrition2000.com. I think this was the address. You can always search the internet. Get the one that contains rubidium (I think this is how it is spelt). This helps your body absorb the medicine. Good luck my friend. And please pass this information to everybody you know that needs it.
Question: How does stomach cancer kill you? I know someone with cancer, not actually in the stomach but in the duodenum. It is at a stage 4. He was told he doesn't have much time. I was wondering, how does cancer kill you. Is it organ failure or does it just eat you up inside? Is it sudden or does it gradually leave you bedridden? Just wondering what we are in for. How can I prepare to help him?
Answer: It is difficult to predict the course of a cancer that has already metastasized, since it may affect many organ systems. The problem with duodenal cancer is that it tends to block the gastrointestinal tract. This may keep the stomach from emptying, resulting in nausea, vomiting, reflux, and malnutrition. Spread within the area of the duodenum may also affect the drainage of the pancreas and the liver, either of which could cause considerable discomfort. Doctors may do surgery or place tubes to bypass the affected parts.
I would anticipate that your friend will lose a lot of weight become weak. He will probably be given sufficient painkillers to control his pain, but will probably be otherwise uncomfortable. He may have good days interspersed with bad ones. If he has surgery or chemotherapy, he may improve temporarily. In the end, he will probably be very weak and have liver failure. Which organ failure causes his end will not matter.
I had a close friend who died of pancreatic cancer a couple of years ago, and desperately wanted to help her. At first, she did not like the attention and didn't want any help. I finally told her that I needed to do something for her for MY mental health. It took a while to sink in, but she finally became more gracious about accepting help from me and other friends.
There are all kinds of things you can do, depending on the circumstances. Is he married? If not, offer to do things around the house when he is not feeling well. If so, offer to help his wife. Run errands. Take kids. Sit with him so the wife can escape for a few hours. Cook for him/them. Take him to appointments.
My friend lost a lot of weight, and couldn't stand the taste of many foods. I made her soup with meat and beans and no spices, only salt, because I knew she needed protein. I put it in serving sized plastic bags and froze it. She liked it, and ate it, and gained some weight back. I heard she liked ice cream, so I made some in her favorite flavors. Other friends arranged to get marijuana for her (legal in California, where we are), while I looked up recipes to put it in, since she was not a smoker.
I bought her hats especially designed for women who have lost hair. I heard a doctor on TV who said that Trident cinnamon gum is great for the bad taste you get in your mouth from chemo, so I bought her some, and she liked it so well she kept buying it.
I am sure you can dream up all kinds of things that your friend might need help with.
I am sorry for your situation, and wish I could be more helpful.
Question: How can Doctors say that a person has stomach cancer just by a blood test? a friend of mine has been told by his doctor that he has sores in his stomach which is probably stomach cancer, however, no xrays, scans, colonoscopy, or gastroscopy were done....how can they say this with only the results of a blood test????????????
Answer: No doctor in their right mind would ever diagnose a patient with stomach cancer on a blood test alone. I don’t think your friend is being honest with you.
Question: Is there a chance it might be stomach cancer? I am a 25 year old male and was diagnosed with GERD and a hiatal hernia about four years ago. Well after being diagnosed I stopped taking acid prohibitors and what not. Well for the last 1 1/2 - 2 years I've been throwing up every morning mainly just thick bile/acid. Made an appointment to go back to the doctor but just wondering on the damaged that might have been caused within the last few years. Could it be stomach/esophageal cancer?
Answer: No no no way - BUT check to make sure!
Question: What can I give a person(vegi drinks or fruit drinks) who is dying of stomach cancer? My mother is dying of stomach cancer and wanted to know if anyone knew of something my mom can drink, like a vegi drink of fruit smoothies or anything else that she can have for now?
Answer: I think the best thing to do is to consult a dietitian. I was going to suggest that you get a juicer and juicer fruits and veggies, but after reading an article on CNN , I realized that it may not be a good idea as fruits and some veggies may agitate it. Consult a dietitian as they would know what is best for your mom. There also may be some useful info for you in this article , just in case you need it. Best of luck enjoy your mom and take care.

Question: How to help stomach cancer patient to eat more? my dad completed chemo for his stomach cancer, recently it has spread to his liver and he have no appetite at all and lost weight. How do we make him consume food?
Answer: Megace is great for increasing appetite with cancer patients. Ask your oncologist for a prescription. Marijuana can work to, but it's illegal so don't use it.

Question: what kinds of food is good for stomach cancer? My mom has a friend that has stomach cancer and she wanted to make some food that would be good for him. He's in the second stage, and already had a surgery to remove the tumor. My mom's korean, and she only makes korean food, so korean food would be nice..
Answer: Best wishes for your mom's friend. I recommend king of herbs, ganoderma lingzhi reishi spore. Following is some information, sincerely hope it can help you.
GANODERMA LUCIDUM AND ITS SPORES (*Reference: http://guru.levolo.com)
Ganoderma lucidum is one of fungi in the family of Basidiomycetes, which is referred as Lingzhi in Chinese and considered as a precious herb in traditional Chinese medicines. The use of Ganoderma lucidum was clearly described in Compendium of Material Medica by Shizhen Li, a famous herbal scholar in the Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1368-1644). Ancient Chinese records showed that the species is to promote longevity and maintain vitality of the human body. Its major benefit appears to be its immuno-modulating action, resulting in enhancement of immunity, improvement of liver functions, improvement and restoration of the normal functions of the respiratory system, and prevention of certain viral infections on the basis of the abundant clinical evidence.
A mature Ganoderma mushroom ejects the tiny spores which is about 8-12 to 6-7 um. The spore can be considered as the seed of Ganoderma. The structure of each spore consists of 2 layers of the rigid wall, the sporoderm. The cavities between the walls contain bioactive substance for germination. Clinical studies show that the bioactive substance could only be obtained and absorbed by the human body when the walls of the sporoderm were broken.
DISTINCTIVE CHARACTERISTICS OF LINGZHI MASTER® GURU®
(1) Establishing a Ganoderma-cultivated plant which is a pollution-free environment. This guarantee that the spore collected is fresh, pesticide residue and heavy metal free.
(2) Activating Ganoderma spores by germination to enrich bioactive ingredients.
(3) Using special micron breaking technique patented in USA and China to completely break the Ganoderma spores in order to maximize the bioactivity.
(4) The germination and sporoderm breaking technique have already patented in China, USA and Europe.
LINGZHI MASTER® GURU® PURE GANODERMA SPORE POWDER —— is made from the germinating spore of Ganoderma, which is a medicinal fungus and traditionally regarded as a precious herb, by modern biotechnology. After activation and germination, the outer shell of spore is broken and the broken rate is 99.8%. Moreover, it contains about 37.5% of stabilized bioactive lipid. The germination and sporoderm breaking technique have already patented in China, USA and Europe. This process is able to enhance the bioactivity and fully utilized by the human body.

Question: what can I do to help someone with stomach cancer? My father has stomach cancer, and I wish I could do something to help. Am I at any risk? He lives in Minnesota, I live in Illinois. What can I do for him?
Answer: This is what I did when my dad had cancer. I prayed that he wouldn't suffer too much. I told him I loved him often, when I visited him I showed him a happy front, I asked him how his day had been and really listened without interrupting when he spoke, I asked him if there was anything I could do or bring for him (food, clothes, etc.) and I played cards with him. When he had to be hospitalized, everyday, I went to see him after work and sometimes fed him. I thanked him for everything he'd done for me and told him he'd always have a special place in my heart. One day, I asked him if he'd like to get out of his room and go for a floor tour in the provided wheelchair (as he didn't have any strength for walking). You should have seen the smile on his face when he said "yes". I took him down various hallways and he acted like I had given him the moon. He was so happy for getting out of bed and out of his room that it almost broke my heart. I wished at the time that I had thought of it before. In his good moments, we talked about happy memories and we laughed together. Somedays, he'd be asleep when I got there. I just held his hand and waited for him to wake up. Also, I always kissed him when I arrived, when I left and told him I'd be back the next day. When he died, I was sad but happy that he wasn't suffering anymore. I have a book marker with a picture of him and most every night when I have my 1/2 hour of reading before going to sleep, I kiss him his picture and at times talk to him. I have no regrets, just good memories.
As for your question if you are at risk, I don't know about that so I would suggest you seek your doctor's advice on that.
Hope this helps. Try to be strong when around him. It must really be hard on you with your dad being in Minnesota and you in Illinois. I wish you courage and strength in this hard time. Annette
