Stomach Cancer Research
Question: My uncle is dying from stomach and brain cancer. how many stages are their in brain and stomach cancer? Also, I would like to know the symptoms or pretty much what to expect and how the life expectancy. I have been researching it but have not had much luck. So, if possible can you also provide a good website to also help answer my question. Thank you, all answers are greatly appreciated by me and my family.
Answer: There are four stages in cancer.
I hope this website helps:

Question: Veganism causes stomach cancer? I decided to become a vegan, but my mom told me that a friend of hers (who I know, and seems to be very smart) told her that every vegan she's ever known has gotten stomach cancer, and that veganism isn't healthy. This is the opposite of what I have researched. Does anyone know anything about this?
Answer: That's called Full-o-crap. High fiber diets are actually proven to reduce GI cancer not promote it.
Question: genetic research for cancer .... how did you cope with the wait? My family is currently waiting on gene testing for stomach cancer. We know that there is a faulty gene but they just have to find it. It has been over 2 years now, they told us it would take approx 3. I have a 50/50 chance of inheriting the gene from my mother who died age 49. How did you all cope with the wait? I am now staring to get edgy, guess it cos I think I will hear soon what the future brings.
They told us that the results could come sooner, we were also being tested for bowel cancer as my gran had died from that and we got the results for that approx 6 months ago. Luckily that was not genetic that was one less thing to worry about. The problem with stomach cancer is that when you feel like there could be a problem its usually very advanced. Also I am only getting tested every 2 years which I think is disgraceful but hey I guess that is the good old NHS for you
Answer: i didnt realise it took so long,i've got to have that done, because my mum has had breast cancer, plus it runs in the family,i understand how you feel it was worrying enough waiting for my mums results,i felt like i was dying,i thought i was losing my mum,but luckily enough she pulled through, cancer is like a death sentence hanging over us all the time,i hope you receive good news, please try not to worry, when my mum found out that she'd got it(plus my nan, grandad and mother in law have had cancer) its made me realise how we take life for granted, enjoy your life to the full, enjoy every minute of it,we will all fight cancer, this horrible nasty disease, dont let it destroy us,life is precious,
Question: cancer research worldwide? Cure of cancer is possible because I myself have experimented it to my sister who was diagnosed with cancer of the stomach she is now in her 6th year after the cancer was found very much alive and full of enthusiasm. By the way I gave her acupressure therapy that changes cancer cells with new cells
Answer: That is good for your sister, but without being able to independly verify this or duplicate the results with other patients with cancer than what good is this for other patients . . the fact is that you will never know for sure what has happened with your sister. There are so many variables with cancer . . so much depends on a patients overall health, age, and response to treatments when it comes to remission or cure. There are also many dozens of varieties of the same cancer tumor that are high grade or low grade or somwhere inbetween. You must also account for the various stages of cancers with a stage 1 tumor being easier to 'cure' than an advanced metastatic stage 4 cancer. Not all cancer is the same, or behaves in the same fashion with any type of treatment . . some cancer stages and grades are easier to treat and some on occasion appear to go in remission or stay latent. No one knows why. There are also spontaneous remissions, I too know of at least one 12 year old whose multiple tumors have shrunk . . he was sent home on hospice and his cancer has spontaneously stopped growing and started to shrink. But he's never had accupuncture or had any alternative or completmentary medicine either . . they bascially did nothing special and it happened this way. No one knows why, it's just great news.
So, believe what you want to believe and rejoice that your sister is alive . . but your acupressure therapy probably had very little do with it.
Peace.
Question: How long until stomach cancer stomach cancer will "kill" [[read description]]? Kay so, My 86-87 year-old grandma was diagnosed with stomach cancer at the beginning of July. I've done a bit of research on it but all of the websites are really scientific or whatever, and hard to understand. She's done 10 Radiation sessions. She's not going to have surgery to remove her stomach (that's a way of removing the cancer) because it's too risky.
I'm really scared and I don't want her to die. She lives in BC (i live in Ontario) so I can't visit her that much, and i'm fourteen so I can't just decide to get on a plane or whatever. I'm kinda scared to ask my dad or any of my aunts or uncles or older cousins, because I don't want to be sat down and be told everything.
If you know anything about how long she might have (especially for her age) or anything about stomach cancer or whatever then please answer! I might go out for Christmas, if she'll make it that long :'( . I really want to see her again.
Answer: Stomach cancer in general does not have a good prognosis and if the tumor is not removed the chance of survival is zero. They are treating her to relieve symptoms. Without knowing the stage or the grade of her cancer it is impossible to even guess at how long she has.
Question: stomach issue still. need help? Please help me diagnose if possible? Okay so I am 14. I was diagnosed with anxiety issues 5 years ago... but they still remain. Lately my stomach has been acting weird. I can't eat or else I have really bad diarrhea and my stomach hurts. I'm almost afraid to eat now. Sometimes it happens at school and so I can't eat lunch anymore, because I always get nauseous and have bad diarrhea also. Sometimes it happens when I drink too. It's been like this for 4 weeks. The lunch thing has been longer, probably since September. I just want to be able to eat again, but I am scared. I researched stomach cancer, and I have all of the symptoms. My parents will not take me to the doctor but I feel like I really need to go. Please help me? thanks. I have also lost weight... so I am pretty scared. Now it happens during every meal.
I'm also a vegitarian... if that makes a differance
Answer: It might be a gallbladder issue, but more likely it is an ulcer from all your stress issues. Make an appointment for your doctor and see if you can get a friend to take you, or else can you take the bus? It's an important issue and you need to be seen by someone. Good luck.
Question: my mom has stomach cancer and im only 13? im 13 years old, and my mom and my sis are my only family. her cancer has spread to her liver and she is expected to pass within less than a year. what do i do? i mean im scared? im crying right now thinking of it. i did some research on it. but is there anyway she can live longer or not die NOW? i love her and i dont want her to leave me???? please help????
shes older
Answer: you are going to have to be really strong right now. it is hard to accept, but you are going to have to say goodbye to her. there are going to be some unresolved questions, though. i think it is important for you to talk to your mom about what will happen to you in terms of guardianship...is someone going to be around to take care of you. having some idea of what is going on, even though it is hard to talk about, will ease your mind.
by no means am i saying that this event is a good thing, but i think that the experience, since it has to happen, will yeild positive results. everyone is the way they are because of the things that they have to go through. your situation is an unhappy one, but it will make you grow as a person.
try to tell your mother everything that is on your mind. let her know how much you love her; talking to her will help you both. and the road ahead will be bumpy...try your best not to let your emotions get the best of you. think before you speak and don't say anything that you'll regret when it's too late.
Question: Gastric stomach cancer? Hi...my Dad was diagnosed with a malignant stomach tumor about a month ago. He only had trouble sleeping and eating and decided to have his stomach checked for an ulcer. Not only was it an ulcer that he had had for many years, but it became malignant. They live out of state and I went to visit for about 2 weeks, when he had a PET scan which showed it was in his bones and lymphnodes. They told him he may have about 6 mos.! It was totally shocking news for us all. Now as of this past Sat. he's on chemo through a chemo port and also many meds. Today he had his first blood transfusion since his counts are poor and calcium is high. Since starting chemo on Sat. he only tastes metal in anything he tries to eat and is very sensitive to cold things...ie: refrig, AC, water, etc. Does anyone have an experience they can share? Up until mid June we thought it was just the ulcer, but through much research we found that it is the most undectibe type since symptoms are like heartburn.
Answer: I am SO sorry about your dad. Spend as much time with him as you possibly can.
My father had stomach, liver, etc cancer. He got so bad that he could no longer eat, anything at all.
He could feel and see bumps inside his stomach. By the time he finally went to the dr. it was too late. He was told he had 3 months to live and sadly that was about all he had.
I don't think anyone should tell another human being they have x amount of months, years to live because I think the patient then focuses on that.
Anyway, the only thing he could do was drink protein shakes.
Prayers to you and your family.
Question: Any radioligists out there? Please tell me what stomach cancer looks like on a barium swallow xray.? Have been sick for a few months. Bleeding rectally and vaginally. Drs are being secretive. Had colonoscopy, lower GI followed by UGI, small bowel series today. What does cancer look like on an xray? Is it gray with lines, all white, or dark? Any websites that anyone knows to research this myself? Im getting frustrated. Thank you for all the help...to everyone that has answered my questions.
Hey happydawg...oh ya I was rushed to the ct scan DURING my barium swallow. I was kept for 4.5 hrs for a dink test...and 3 drs came in to check out my xrays or whatevas while I was lying on the table. Tell me thats not secretive?
Answer: I work with a lot of physicians and they are anything but "secretive." They do not lie or hide things from their patients.
Barium swallows do not diagnose cancer. If they suspect you have cancer, they would be doing a CT scan of your abdomen and pelvis followed by a biopsy.
Cancer is not visible on an XR. They must be looking for something else.
As for the colonoscopy, the result is usually instant. The gastroenterologist will tell you immediately if he saw anything suspicious. They do biopsies and the result comes from the pathologist usually in 24 hours.
Question: Cancer of the omentum and stomach lining...? Ok, so my question is mainly for "survivors" or loved ones of cancer patients. My mother in law was just diagnosed w/ cancer of the stomach lining and her omentum, also in the bottom of her stomach as well. I was wondering what the outcome usually is after surgery and chemo starts. She see's her doctor tomorrow to go over some tests and I'll know more then, but she already knows she's going to have surgery to remove the tumors and they are going to pour hot chemo in her stomach. I've been doing a lot of research on the computer since I found out last week, but some not so good news. Any stories for me to read up on would be great, thanks.
Answer: You are not going to find adequate answers without precise information and this will not be known until after her surgery. There are several variables that determine prognosis with this type of cancer. Unless you have a strong medical background it will be difficult for you to weed through any information you may find. The best source of information is her doctor.
To give you examples of what determines prognosis you will need to know if the cancer is flat, polypoid or ulcerated. You will need to know the grade. Is it superficial, focal or infiltrative? Is there serosal involvement? Are there any lymph nodes involved and if so, how many? Was the surgeon able to get clear margins? Is the location of the cancer distal, proximal or in the body of the stomach? What is the stage?
I am sorry, but if you want meaningful information specific to your mother in law more information is needed. There are hundreds of different types of cancer and one cannot be compared with another. For example; with this type of cancer a patient with 1-3 lymph nodes involved has as good a prognosis as a patient without nodal involvement. This is not the case with most other types of cancer. With this type of cancer there is little that is considered “ in general”.
If you want uplifting stories about people who have survived cancer there are people here who can direct you in the right direction and several who can tell you their own. If you want to know specifically about your mother in law you will have to speak to her doctor. Best wishes to you and your family.
Question: When triple negative breast cancer spreads to the liver what are the chances of survival? My friend was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer that spread to her liver, after a year of chemo (not consistent, she has low blood platelets so they had to get a grip on that first) she went for a body scan..the tumor in her liver grew 2 cm and they found two more small spots in her stomach. I am in denial I know, but what are her chances of actually beating this? I am researching, but I really can't find ANY hopeful news. Is there any?
Answer: Metastatic breast cancer is not curable even if it is not a triple negative. However, breasts cancers that are hormone receptor positive are much better managed. The median survival for your friend’s cancer is 2-3 years. I’m very sorry.
Question: Cancer Qu regarding Dr.Budwig? Please can anyone help me with this.
Has anyone heard of Dr.Budwig and her cottage cheese/flax oil rememdy for cancer? If so please can you offer more insight as to whether this is credible and if it works and also any websites or areas that can help my understanding and judgment on this.
From all my research so far, its seems very hopeful.
Thanks x
ps: a friend of mine has stomach cancer, any ideas if its good for that too please.
Answer: There is no scientific evidence that any food, including cottage cheese, can affect the progress of cancer in any way.
People like Johanna Budwig make wild and unproven claims and exploit the desperation of vulnerable people.
Yes, there are unsubstantiated testimonials on the internet; but you have no way of knowing if the person ever had cancer, much less that they have been cured. The plural of anecdote is not data.
Unlike conventional treatments, this one has not been proven in clinical trials.
Anyone who follows Johanna Budwig's recommendations will be investing time money and hope in something that is not effective, as well consuming quantities of not very enjoyable food.
Meanwhile, their tumours will be growing.
Please discourage your friend from trying this; s/he probably cannot afford the time s/he would lose while trying an ineffective treatment.
Question: PLS HELP! anyone know the medical name for>? medical marijiana? my son's doctor wrote down some options for medicines, and can't read his writing!! I think the spelling looks like "mronro" or mronroe" BUT HE DID SAY THIS WAS medical marijiana. but when I type these in search engine, nothing comes up? please someone that knows answer to this question. or has been prescribed this drug,I really want to research this, he has a stomach disease called gastroparesis, and may even have stomach cancer. and we are researching all the pain options. (the pain is excruciating to him)we are not "drugies" just would like some help. thank you.
nope thanks but its not reglan, we've tried all the meds known to man for nausea and vomiting, ( FAR too many to list) but this one, this is the one I'm looking for. might even be called marinol? poor kid can't even hold anything down, constant pain, nausea and vomiting. at times so hard there is blood. he's being admited to childrens hosp. tomorrow.
Answer: Medical marijuana already exists. It's called Marinol.
A pharmaceutical product, Marinol, is widely available through prescription. It comes in the form of a pill and is also being studied by researchers for suitability via other delivery methods, such as an inhaler or patch. The active ingredient of Marinol is synthetic THC, which has been found to relieve the nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy for cancer patients and to assist with loss of appetite with AIDS patients.
Unlike smoked marijuana--which contains more than 400 different chemicals, including most of the hazardous chemicals found in tobacco smoke-Marinol has been studied and approved by the medical community and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the nation's watchdog over unsafe and harmful food and drug products. Since the passage of the 1906 Pure Food and Drug Act, any drug that is marketed in the United States must undergo rigorous scientific testing. The approval process mandated by this act ensures that claims of safety and therapeutic value are supported by clinical evidence and keeps unsafe, ineffective and dangerous drugs off the market.
There are no FDA-approved medications that are smoked. For one thing, smoking is generally a poor way to deliver medicine. It is difficult to administer safe, regulated dosages of medicines in smoked form. Secondly, the harmful chemicals and carcinogens that are byproducts of smoking create entirely new health problems. There are four times the level of tar in a marijuana cigarette, for example, than in a tobacco cigarette
Question: Why is it that people who oppose Embryonic Stem Cell research are accused of being stupid or lacking empathy? Well, I oppose it...
My best friend died in Dec at age 32. She was planning on starting a family when she was diag. with Stage 3 ovarian cancer. It was a death sentence. She received 6 months of "Rambo" chemo. It spread to her intestines and stomach and she starved to death. A very slow & painful death without going into more details.
My grandma is sitting in a nursing home unable to get out of bed & her memory last about 3-5 minutes. She's been there for 8 yrs.
I think I can relate even if it's just a little.
I believe that a fertilized egg is a human. I value the beginning of life as much as the end. I don't disregard someone because they are old, weak, & near death. They hold as much value as anyone else. I feel the same about the beginning of life.
So...why do people assume those that oppose it are without empathy? I feel that research on embryo's is the same as killing my neighbor for his liver.
You may disagree with me but what about the name calling?
I'm not talking about aborted fetuses either. (which is a whole other issue) I'm talking about the ones from embryos.
http://stemcells.nih.gov/info/basics/basics3.asp
Why are you: Gee, thanks for the post... (rolling eyes)
Answer: I respect your opinion. I do disagree with you on the issue, but I'm not going to degrade you for that. While I respect your right to your opinion and whatever religion you follow, I also strongly respect the separation of church and state. Because of this, I strongly affirm that the religion of a few should not halt the progress of the masses.
Now, once stem cell research advances our society, I strongly support your right to refuse medical treatments that result from said research. People should be allowed to refuse on an individual basis, but they don't have the right to make that decision for everyone else.
Question: Is it too late to sue for the cause of cancer to a baby? My little sister was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma (a very rare cancer) when she was 14 weeks old. At birth you could tell something was wrong, her stomach was swollen (a symptom of the cancer), but she was not diagnosed until 14 weeks like i said.
At the time I was only 12 so I really didn't know about suing for the cause. When my sister was diagnosed and undergoing chemo-therapy (this was about 6 years ago) there was not much information on the cause of Neuroblastoma at all. My family always knew that the cause had to have been from where my mother worked (a glue making factory where she was exposed to dangerous chemicals, and using her bare hands in them because the company did not tell the workers to use caution and wear gloves) Well today I was bored looking online and found a site where they have doen research finding that babies diagnosed with Neuroblastoma can get this due to where the mother or father worked, if they were being exposed to chemicals. Is it too late to sue?
Answer: There is no known cause for childhood neuroblastoma . . because of this type of uncertainty alot of misinformation pops up on the Internet . . recheck your source and examine their documentation . . if it is legitimate you should be able to locate information at the National Library of Medicine (PubMed) . . . there are many unreliable websites that make claims that cannot be back up by scientific fact.

Question: Very worried, please help? Esophageal cancer? Ok i'v had acid reflux for some time not to bad but i know i have it.
Tonight it got so bad i threw up 3 times so i did some research and i heard it can lead to esophageal cancer, Now i'v been having strange pains in the botton left and right hand sides of my stomach not both at once but one at a time usualy in the morning and sometimes at night.
I think this could just be my glands due to me being 17 and in the late stages of puberty But im not too sure.
The other reason i'm very worried is that i had a dream i had cancer and it felt so real, im booking a doc's app asap but i'd just like some awnsers for peace of mind before i go to sleep, thanks.
Not in my stomach (for the wierd pains) i'd say just at the top of my hips or right by my hips.
And would my glands be swollen if i had it?
I'v been feeling really tired alot recently too.
Answer: There are over 200 different types of cancer . . and surprisingly many of them are age specific. Children and teenagers have a totally different type of cancer than older adults . . adults have cancers of the organs such as breast, lung, or colon . . while teens are more likely to have cancer of the blood, lymphatic system, muscles, soft tissue, cartiliage . teens are more likely to have cancer in the primitive cells left over from childhood (the small blue cells). The reason I tell you this is because Esophageal cancer occurs in older adults and not in teenagers. So you may have somthing going on but it is not cancer.
