Stomach Cancer Stages
Question: stomach cancer? My father was diagnose in late Jan with Stage 3 stomach cancer, after biopsy and ct scans it was determined that the tumor was contained to just the stomach, at that time he was treated with chemo, the plan was to shrink and then have surgery, he was scheduled for surgery this week but after second biopsy reports, the surgeons canceled surgery as because the tumor had actually grown a bit but still is contained to just the stomach, they want to try another chemo to try and shrink it but gave us the family an option to attempt surgery or try another chemo, the surgeon advises against surgery as he says we have not found an effective chemo to treat after surgery, the oncologist wanted surgery but is now hesitant because of the surgeon advising against it, ultimately the descion rest with the family, has anyone else been faced with this difficult decision before? It makes sense to find a chemo that work so he can be treated after surgery but also fear it wont work and it spreads. Help!!
Answer: This is always the worry . . however, consider this . . if the cancer has already spread or metastasized your father is going to need an effective chemotherapy to stop it. The entire time he is in surgery and then recovering from the surgery those microscopic cancer cells could be growing somewhere else. But, by than the doctors would not know what chemo to give him in order to get rid of that distant growth.
This is a tough decision for you and it will not harm anyone to get a second opinion. However, at some point you need to go by your doctor or surgeons expert advice. They are oncologists and have treated this type of disease before . . so they know what can happen. At some point you are going to need to trust their advice. And, time, in the case of cancer can be critical.
Good luck in whatever you decide.
Question: is there a point in insisting on chemo for 4th stage stomach cancer? doc says there's no point in doing it as mom's health would deteriorate further and the scope of getting cured with treatment is almost negligible. kindly advice please
Answer: It depends on who is doing the insisting. If it is your mother she should be allowed to give it a try without anyone interfering. It is her life and her decision to make. Also stage 4 is either a tumor that invades adjacent structures with ANY lymph node involvement, any invasive tumor that does not invade adjacent structures with mets to 15 or more regional lymph nodes, or when distant mets are present.
Question: My mother died of stomach cancer, so what are the steps I should take to protect myself from cancer? I read the symptoms and treatments on WebMD, but what i want to know is what the odds are that I would get cancer too.
My mother was diagnosed with stomach cancer in its late stages, and lasted only 2 painful months. I would definitely like to avoid that with some preventative measures.
I will stay away from carcinogens (nitrates such as smoked/burned foods), but who do i turn to for a checkup or if i feel that symptoms of stomach cancer is showing?
Answer: Unfortunately nobody knows what causes most cancers.
Most, however, are random with only a small proportion being due to hereditary factors.
I'm sorry to hear about your mother. My mother too died of stomach cancer; her six children are now all in their 40s and 50s and only one (me) has had cancer, and that was random, like most cancers, and unconnected to my mother's cancer.
There are no foods proven to prevent cancer or affect its progress in any way - people recommending foods, diets or 'alternatives' (which in this context means unproven) have invariably never had cancer.
Someone has mentioned apricot kernels and Lorraine Day, and as both these approaches to cancer are dangerous, I'm posting these links to some facts about them:

Question: A close friend has been diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer.I need help on dealing with this situation.? I made the mistake of doing some research and found out that patients are considered to be doing well if they live for two years after the diagnosis. I do my best not to think about that. I love my friend a great deal and can't imagine my life without her. I just need help on dealing with this extremely emotional situation.
Answer: My mom has stage 4 breast cancer and they gave her a few WEEKS to live. It's been almost three YEARS! So don't believe everything you read. Everyone is different. Her doctors have said though, that a lot of your recovery has to do with how much hope you have. If your friend thinks, hey, I can beat this no problem she has a better chance then if she sits there and thinks she's going to die. SO just be positive and try to keep her positive, just being there means a lot. Spend time with her. If she loses her hair tell her she looks great. Just be a typical friend basically. Spend a lot of time with her BUT don't give up your life by spending all of your time with her. I learned that with my mom. I spent every minute with her and then my doctor told me that wasn't good. THat I need my own time too. So remember that you'll wear yourself ragged. GOOD LUCK! If you ever want to talk send me a message.
Question: can somebody heal from stomach cancer stage 2 ?? please i need an answer?
Answer: Yes if you have access to the best information. The cancer associations will throw all sort of staticts at you but don't be fooled. For an example it is actually possible to be cured of cancer yet at the same time be dead of cancer … This is because the cancer organizations what to make it look like their chemotherapy, burning and cutting treatments work (they make lots of money from them) They redefined the term 'cured of cancer'. So if you are diagnosed of cancer today and then five years later are still alive you have been cured of cancer, but if you die even a month later due to your body being crippled with caner you still go down at 'being cured' since you survived the 5 year period.
Don't take anyone's word on this subject including the 'top contributors' who in my opinion are employed by pharmaceutical companies.
A man called Dr Max Gerson was curing patients who has been sent home to die of terminal cancer many years ago. He used an all natural approach called Gerson Therapy. He believed that if you give the body what it needs -the correct nutrients, it will cure itself. The body does not need harmful expensive chemicals which speed up death. Only the pharmaceutical companies benefit if take that approach.
Her are some references you need to check out in order to find the truth:
A movie released last year called ' The Beautiful Truth'
You can also read about Gerson Therapy – go to amazon for the following

Question: Stomach Cancer? 3rd stage???? what is the survival rate of a person with stomach cancer in it's 3rd stage? how likely is it for them to survive, & if they have no chance, then how fast do you think they will lose the battle?
Answer: Prognosis and statistics are meaningless for individual patients. There are far too many factors involved which is why it is wrong to try and make predictions. I have known at least a hundred patients with abdominal cancers . . usually stage IV . .and there are survivors with no evidence of disease . . some are at the ten year mark. Many were told that they were terminal . .they had doctors who basically gave up on them because they thought they were a 'lost cause' . . most of these patients just moved on and found a new doctor willing to treat them. . patients who were told they were inoperable found surgeons with skill enough to go ahead and operate . . no one should pay attention to 'prognosis' . . because there are newer medications and treatments becoming available all the time. The best thing that an advanced stage patient can do is find a large comprehensive cancer center that treats that type of cancer in large volumes. These are the centers where the newer treatments are being used or tested.
NCI: Cancer Centers
http://cancercenters.cancer.gov/cancer_centers/cancer-centers-list.html
Other ways to gather information is from patients who are going through a similar situation . . seek out online support groups for this type of cancer and ask questions from other patients. Their experience is invaluable, they can usually point you to a cancer center or doctor or surgeon who specializes in your type and stage of cancer.
ACOR: The Stomach Cancer Online Support Group
http://listserv.acor.org/archives/stomach-onc.html
There is always hope . . do not listen to the 'terminators' . . . . maintain hope always . . do the research . .talk to doctors . .call . . send out records and CT . . seek out new and innovative treatments. It can be done, but you need to be your own advocate.
Best to you.
Question: would shark oil be good for a patient in terminal conditions from stomach cancer? he is 64 yers old, he has diabetes, cancer 4th stage (according to doctors) he does dialisys every second day, he is on a wayting list for kidney transplant...please get back to me
Answer: Listen to "lo_mcg"
We went through the shark oil fad in the 1980's along with Laetrile.
Both are totally useless and a waste of money.
Stage IV gastric carcinoma is bad news with bad results no matter what treatment is tried.
Having renal failure at age 64 and being dialysis dependent makes the prognosis even more bleak if that were possible.
We understand you are grasping at straws in this situation.
I would focus on comfort measures to optimize the time left.

Why would his doctors use up a donated kidney as a transplant for a person with end stage incurable gastric carcinoma? There are details missing in this case. This makes no sense.
Question: Pain from stomach cancer? If left untreated, how long does it typically take before someone with early stage stomach cancer to start feeling severe stomach pain?
Answer: We are all with you ,you should show to doctor,we can form an organisation of people to help you
-If we have to be healthy ,we have to follow many health rules regarding food, nutrition ,vitamins diet ………..
-following all the rules is very difficult ,may be even impossible. Generally we do mistake about one or the other rule of health. This will naturally lead to some or the other disease. Hence ,when we get a disease, if we find out why we got that disease, which of our mistakes is responsible for that disease ,then ,if we stop that mistake ,that itself will benefit us by reducing the disease, stopping the progress of the disease. Therefore ,regarding your question ,first we have to know ,whether the reason for getting the disease is found out or no
