Testicular Cancer Information
Question: Can laptops cause testicular cancer? Please give sources with information from sites that aren't all .com? My grandpa and grandma keep telling me that I can get testicular cancer from having my laptop on my lap. I told them they are wrong but they don't believe me. I need some evidence to support my argument and so far I can't find any real credible evidence just things on here where someone says yes or no or they explain why but don't leave a source.
Answer: There isn't enough evidence to say yes or no. However, I would say it's unlikely. No source, just personal experience--I have been a healthcare education teaching assistant since 1979. Most physicians will tell you "the exact causes of testicular cancer aren't really known."
However, laptops can raise scrotal temperature, decreasing sperm production. Testicles are outside the body for a reason--to keep them cooler than the body. This lower temperature is essential for sperm production and survival.

Question: Could a hydrocele being concealing the signs of testicular cancer ? Within the last two to three months i have noticed the presence of a hydrocele in my scrotum. Since i had no idea what it was i looked it up, upon reading these articles another potential worry arose. According to a couple medical articles that a hydrocele could be concealing testicular cancer. I'm only twenty years old.
Any information from people who have gone through this would be appreciated.
Answer: Most hydroceles are harmless. Medical articles are intended for those in the medical profession. There's a lot of knowledge that goes into assimilating the content of articles like the ones you read. Knowledge that's not contained in the article. Information like what you read about hydroceles concealing malignant tumors is true but perhaps what you don't know is this usually applies to tense hydroceles but tense hydroceles can often mimic testicular cancer.
The thing with these articles is "Yes, true, but..." To truly appreciate what you read, you have to know about the exceptions, the rates of incidence and the variables and factors that are involved. The information about hydroceles hiding tumors puts practitioners on the alert, reminds them to be watchful for this for the simple fact that hydroceles CAN hide tumors. They don't ALWAYS, they don't USUALLY..... they CAN.
Testicular cancer isn't a common form of cancer and is very treatable with a high cure rate, about 90%. Without mets, the rate is 100%.
So, your question: Could a hydrocele be concealing the signs of testicular cancer? Not really. The signs are more than just a lump. There can be breast enlargement and a hydrocele isn't going to conceal that, is it?
See a urologist about this. Have an exam. Get diagnosed before you decide you have a hydrocele. The symptoms can resemble other conditions. And try not to worry.
Question: what is the stages of testicular cancer? what are the stages of testicular cancer? how could i tell i have it without a lump? would i get really ill or something? and is there treatment that doesnt cause any affect on the testicles and sex life and soo fourth? information will be appreciated.
Answer: The symptom of testicular cancer is a palpable lump in the testicle that is firm and not tender. Most masses in the testicle are cancerous, most masses outside the testicle are not.
If you have a concern, do have it checked.
Question: What can testicular cancer can do at its worst? Ok, it can kill someone by spreading in the body .. but can it also affect your manhood? in terms of ability to have sex? and/or fertility?
Including source of your information would be helpful. Thank you.
Answer: Many men worry that losing one testicle will affect their ability to have sexual intercourse or will make them sterile or impotent. But a man with one healthy testicle can still have a normal erection and can still produce sperm. Therefore, the operation to remove just one testicle, called an inguinal orchiectomy (IO), does not make a patient impotent and seldom interferes with fertility. Nevertheless, it still is surgery, and in order to avoid complications like a hernia, we advise that you wait a couple of weeks after the surgery before attempting intercourse.
Surgery to remove the retroperitoneal lymph nodes (RPLND) will not alter a man's ability to have an erection or an orgasm, but the operation can cause infertility because it can interfere with ejaculation. In the past, removing these lymph nodes invariably caused the nerves that control ejaculation to be cut. Without these nerves, the bladder neck does not close during ejaculation, and your sperm end up in the bladder instead of where you would expect them to go. Nowadays most surgeons attempt to perform a nerve-sparing RPLND. The good surgeons are successful almost all of the time, but the regular surgeons with little experience with the operation are not particularly successful. Some men recover the ability to ejaculate without treatment, while others may be helped by medication in an effort to regain their fertility. Most, however, will simply have dry ejaculations. As I understand it, it essentially feels the same, but without the wet spot. Some men claim that it does feel different. As always, if fertility or a forward ejaculation are important to you, make sure that your surgeon has extensive experience with the nerve sparing procedure!
If you end up having radiation therapy it should not change your ability to have sex whatsoever. Radiation therapy can, however, interfere with sperm production. Usually the effect is temporary, and most patients regain their fertility within a matter of months. As for chemotherapy and its effects, men who receive chemotherapy for testicular cancer continue to function sexually, although some anticancer drugs interfere with sperm production. Although this effect is temporary for most patients, some may become permanently sterile. For more information on TC and fertility, check out the TCRC Fertility page.
In either case, if you are receiving chemotherapy, we strongly recommend that you use some form of barrier contraception during and shortly after treatments. You do not want to pass any of those chemotherapy drugs to your partner via semen! Generally speaking, we think it would be best to use a condom between the time chemotherapy starts and 2-3 days after the last dose of chemo.
Regarding sex drive, testicular cancer survivors we have spoken with have told me everything from having sex the day after their IO (ouch!) all the way through having to go on hormonal therapies to re-establish their desire. Just as each one of us is different going in, we're going to be just as different coming out, too. One big key is to keep the patient-doctor communication lines open, before and after any treatments. If you feel different, or just out of whack, let your doctor know. They cannot read your mind, and they definitely cannot diagnose anything if you do not tell them that something is wrong!
Finally, I would like to stress that testicular cancer is not contagious and it cannot be transmitted via sexual intercourse. There are a lot of reasons to be afraid of cancer, but this is not one of them!
Question: Does Marijuana actually cause aggressive testicular cancer? I personally believe it is an unproven theory. But I could we wrong. Does anyone have any information on this topic?
Answer: Sonners here comes someone with facts (run away!)
All kinds of smoke give you all kinds of cancer the case with marijuana is strange but it does effect your balls in the way of cancer of impotency.

Question: If I've had a lump on my testicles for 8-9 years, can it be testicular cancer? Ok, first of all I'll start off by saying that I've had it checked by a doctor and I just had an ultra-sound, but I won't have any results for about a week. I've had this lump for 8-9 years now, and it doesn't hurt, never has. The lump almost feels like its not directly on my testicle but like its growing off of it, maybe really close but off of the epidemyas(sp?). But if I've had this lump for that long with no problems, is it still possible that it may be cancer? I tried searching online but I can't find any information as far as how long it takes testicular cancer to develop. Thanks.
Answer: Just relax! Since you have already seen doctor and took ultrasound, you should take a break and don't think about it. I don't know how old you are. The range to have testicular cancer mostly from 18-30.
Question: my boyfriend has testicular cancer? my boyfriend has testicular cancer. i googled it and i couldent get any good information. could any guys out there tell me what it basically is? i could really use the help!!
Answer: It's cancer of the testicles. If caught early it is treatable. The treatment may cause infertility, so he will want to talk to his doctor about storing sperm before the surgery if he plans to have children.
There are a lot of websites about it. Here's one: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/testicularcancer.html
Question: What are the chances of cancer recurring especially when my 3 uncles died from it and father just got it? I got Testicular cancer 10 years ago I am now 28 since then my three uncles got cancer and all of them died now my father has just been diagnosed, my question here is what are the chance of me getting cancer again? I know we can't change what happens that's life but out of curiosity I would like to have an Idea, any answer's or information would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: Your relatives have nothing to do with whether or not your cancer recurs unless you have a very rare and strange type of hereditary testicular cancer that recurs many years later. I have never heard of one, but I guess it is possible. People do not often die from testicular cancer and they almost never recur more than 10 years later. When men get testicular cancer at a young age it is usually a germ cell type. When they get it at an older age, like over 50, they usually are not a germ cell type. Testicular cancer is uncommon to begin with as it only accounts for 1% of all cancers that occur in men. For several men in the same family to have it is very rare. Has your father’s oncologist recommended genetic testing? This is the only way to know for sure and if you do have the gene there is most likely something you can do about it. You may also want to know because if you have the gene there is a 50/50 chance of passing it on to your kids.
Question: I found a painless lump and am not sure if it is cancer or not or what it might be? I am a young 20 year old male and found a lump below my penis on the corpus cavernosum urethra or somewhat around that area. Im not quite sure if you can get cancer down there, I wasnt able to find any information about cancer taking place in that area. I found alot of information about testicular cancer and lumps on the testes and such but nothing as far as this is concerned. The lump is always there but sometimes is more apparent than usual; sometimes becoming a bit harder and sometimes softer. If any one has any suggestions or hints about what this could be I would really like to know and I already know I might have to hit up the doctor.
Answer: okay im not exactly educated on this stuff but my mom had a hernia (i think thats how u spell it) rite above her belly button and its like u described your lump, painless to the touch unless she lifted heavy objects and soft at time and hard at time.
hope i helped!!
Question: how long can you wait to go to the doc if u have testicular cancer or think you do? i recently realized a bump on my right testicle bout 4 or 5 days ago and i made a doctors appointment but my doc is booked and wont be able to take me till the 19th of july which is to long for me to be thinking if i have cancer or not but i was wondering how long can you wait for it not be to treated i no you should get it checked asap but cant so information would be nice
i am really praying it is not cancer no one in my family has ever had testicular cancer and i no some of the symptoms is that if it hurts its more likely not to be cancer and sometimes it hurts when i touch the lump and sometimes it doesn't but i am going to see if i can get another doc
Answer: Cancer should be evaluated early. Still I think you should also start on Flor-Essence tea immediately. No matter what is found I feel you should use this product.
Question: Do I have testicular Cancer? Hi, Im a 17 year old male. I found a lump on the top of my right testicle. I did some research and have been losing sleep ever since. I hoping its just a cyst. Im scared to confront my parents before I know a little more information. Please help me to know what this could be. Thank you.
Answer: If caught early, testicular cancer is EXTREMELY curable. If you have to get cancer, this is not a bad cancer to get. Tell your parents you've found a lump and think you should get it checked out, just in case. It's nothing to be embarrassed about. Stop losing sleep and get some help. You might be worrying over nothing.
Question: I was just diagnosed with Testicular Cancer.HELP??? Does anyone here in this board know anything about this?I'm scared to death and very embarrassed.Any information will be helpful.I cant find much about it online.
Answer: i have a different form of cancer. one good site i found to connect with people who have the same experience is at www.careplace.com/communities. the people will share their experiences and answer questions. best wishes and prayers to you.
Question: Testicular Cancer Question? I've been having some dull, aching pain around my groin and down to my thighs. The pain has been very mild, but it is still enough to be uncomfortable. At first I thought it may have been a pulled muscle, but while I was checking my testicles to make sure there was a problem on that end, I found something strange. My left testicle has always been a little larger than my right, and it hangs slightly lower, too. I've noticed a strange lump above the left testicle, not actually on it. It feels very bumpy and almost rough, and it is not all part of a single mass. I'm not sure if I should be worried or not. I was recently hit in the testicles, though not very hard, and I'm not sure if that could be a factor. Any information you guys could give me would be very helpful.
"to make sure there wasn't* a problem at that end" sorry for that typo
also, the lump is not very hard, it is somewhat squishy.
Answer: The left testicle frequently hangs lower than the right, and a small difference in size is not unusual. Possibilities include epididymitis, torsion of the appendix testis (yes, the testicle has an appendix!), or a varicocele.
Your risks of testicular cancer are relatively small, but if that is your diagnosis, it is best that it be made promptly. Don't procrastinate. See your doctor or a urologist soon.
Question: possible testicular cancer/visiting GP? ok so i have recently been getting a dull pain in one of my testicles...but it switches testicle from time to time.
i have been aware for some time of a small lump on each of my testicles which are somewhat painful to the touch but have generally dismissed it. one of the lumps hurts a lot less to touch than the other. however, i believe there is a "lump" on each testicle which is completely normal but is often confused with an abnormal lump.
however since this pain has come into the equation, i feel like i should go and get it checked out by my GP.
the only thing is, i'm only 14 and it's not the most comfortable of reasons to give to a parent as to why you want a doctors appointment. can i just make an appointment for myself without telling my mum?
any help on this would be appreciated...information on what i may be suffering from - whether it is abnormal - to my question regarding visiting my GP.
Answer: the lumps you are referring to at the top of the testicle is where the seminal vessels are an those are normal, what you will feel with testicular cancer is a enlarge and firm mass or the testicle itself will feel hard, unlike the other one, and usually you will get enlarged lymph glands in your groin, testicular cancer is usually easy to detect and treatment is highly successful unless you wait months or years...thanks to the LANCE ARMSTRONG FOUNDATION there has been a lot to improve the outcome of testicular cancer and other cancers...
Question: i may have testicular cancer? i am 14 years old and ive been having chest pains for about 3 days and yesterday a found a little lump right where the 2 sets of ribs split i dont know if its normal for it to be there oI'mwhat im very scared and i have a physical sept 4th so i figured i would tell him then is that too long to wait and i found a lump on my testicle too i dont want to die the lump on my ball is kind of on top i can feel the epidymus or watever right next to it i dont know what it is sorry its a little run on and may be hard to read for some of u i have inguenal hernia too that may matter somewhat. im very scared right now i found the lump on testicle back in may and it feels. im sorry this information is kind of everywhere. thanks
guys dont think there is enough answers and not answer cause im still watching this
Answer: try to calm down ... you can find out what's going on in a short period of time ... just make sure you tell the doctor everything ...
