Question: Does Testicular Cancer Kill Right Away? I mean, my friend just got diagnosed and now has it in his lymph nodes in his abs and back and I was just wondering what the percentage would be of him surving this. Im not trying to be morbid here, I just need to know what to expect, what to be ready for =.( What are the statistics? Does anyone know?

Answer: I would say the chances are poor. Seminoma is a highly anaplastic growth that spreads by lymphatics primarily. I his abdominal lymph nodes are already involved, surgery is not going to cure him. He will need additional radiotherapy. The cancer responds very well to radiotherapy and the patient would have good relief. But it is short lived and the cancer would come back. On the whole I would give him about 1 year to live.

If your theory is correct, how do you explain Alaska having a lower incidence rate than Washington, when it is colder in Alaska? There isn’t a high rate of testicular cancer anywhere. It is a fairly uncommon cancer and accounts for about 1% of all cancers that occur in men. And unless you work in a cancer registry you wouldn’t know about tracking these people down.
