Testicular Cancer Therapy
Question: How can I find a link between carbon and testicular cancer? My husband works in an area that has high carbon levels and 5 years ago was diagnosed with testicular cancer, after surgery and radiation therapy was in remission. Mid way through last year he was diagnosed with cancer which was a secondary form of the testicular cancer and has now finished chemo and been in remission for only a couple of months. His work needs a link between carbon and testicular cancer to process his rehabilitation paper work. We need a medical paper to back the paper work up and help them process it all.
He works with high carbon producing jet engines, which produce a fine carbon dust.
Answer: High carbon as in metal works, chemicals, carbon monoxide?
I've found some leads, but I need more detail.
Question: Why is lance armstrong able to have children? Lance armstrong experienced radiation therapy (testicular cancer) why was he still able to have kids?
Answer: Sperm bank. He admitted to using a sperm bank when appearing on the Living with Cancer special with Ted Koppel.
It's not unusual in the Cancer World. Many young male cancer patients are encouraged to consider banking sperm before undergoing chemothearpy or radiation treatment.
It is a bit harder for young females to save an ovary, though.

Question: Would the use of a vaporizer reduce or eliminate the risk of testicular cancer? A recent study has drawn a link between marijuana smoking and testicular cancer. excerpts from the study:
"Known risk factors for the cancer include previous injuries to the testicles, a family history of the disease, or suffering from undescended testicles as a young child. "
"Just being a marijuana smoker seemed to carry a 70% extra risk, while those who smoked it regularly, or had smoked from an early age, had twice the risk compared to those who had never smoked it."
Regardless of any moral or legal stance on the issue, the fact that there are so many marijuana smokers world-wide makes this topic one worthy of research. For some chemo-therapy patients, the only relief from nausea and loss of appetite is marijuana. Only the future will tell of the other benefits of the chemicals derived from the plant. Thanks in advance for any helpful and well-intentioned answers.

Answer: If you mean a bong, then no. Doesn't matter how you smoke it, the stats don't change.
Question: My father died in 1971 of testicular cancer, he had radiation sickness.? He had radiation therapy every day, very sick, diarorhea, yellowy brown skin, smelt of metal, drastic weight loss, no appetite, very thirsty. Died in absolute agony. Did radiation kill him?
Answer: It's possible. I think they know radiation better now than they did then.
Question: what are the side effects of Kimo Therapy ? hi, i am suffering from testicular cancer... and i have to go thru kimo therapy recently meet lot of people saying lot of things .... abouit kimo therapy....i am really worried about its side effects if anyone can actually clear me with the facts i will be really greatful to him or her
Answer: first of all its called chemotherapy. The side effects depend on the chemo drug and regime you will be having. There are hundreds of different chemo drugs, some have lots of side effects, others have very few.
Because chemo kills healthy cells as well as cancerous cells the most common side effects are fatigue and becoming immuno-suppressed. This means that your body may be not be able to fight off infections as easily. Other common side effects include nausea and vomiting, but this can usually be controlled by medication that your doctor can give you.
Some people, not all, lose their hair, or their hair starts to thin. This again depends on the drug that you will be given.
All the best with your chemo and treatment
Question: can you help me with a cancer issue? my son had testicular cancer and had the orchioctomy and a lymph node disection. and 2 yrs later it spread to (mestastasized) to his lungs he then went extensive chemo therapy. and they said spots was gone but one and it looked inactive. since then he has been getting xrays and blood work. last months blood work good. he went back this past week and they took blood and said Xray shows more spots on lungs. not sure about blood work til monday. but what if it is reoccurred again. can they treat it with more chemo or what can they do now?
Answer: If they are cancerous the doctors will most likely treat with chemo again or surgically remove the spots. Some people with leukemia go through chemo for years. I'm sure it will depend on your sons individual case. Just try to stay calm (i know saying that is easier than doing it. You need to be calm and level headed for whatever is thrown at you. Good luck to you guys I know it can be exhausting!
Question: how can satisfy my wife after my bout with cancer. tried toys already.i missed my old self? i was diagnosed with testicular cancer. just finished the 3rd round of radiation therapy. drs. says am ok now except that i seldom got an erection. my wife does everything but still i cant maintain an erection...
Answer: Your potency will probably return gradually. Impotence is a common side-effect of radiation and chemotherapy, but it's thankfully usually not permanent. Tell your doctor and he'll advise you, but you can figure that you'll have a few months of sub-par performance.
(I had advanced lymphoma and was impotent for two months and sterile for about 4 months. Had to use viagra for the first year in order to achieve penetration, but don't need it anymore.)
Question: How do you go about getting started with fertility treatments? Do over the counter medications work? My husband and I have been married for 10 years. Only in the last 3 years have we been trying or more so, not trying to prevent becoming pregnant. See, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer a few years back and had to have one removed, along with having radiation therapy. He still has one left, but we haven't had anything checked since his surgery. Since then, we've had unprotected sex with no results. I fear that we may be a barron couple. What are my options and has anyone been through something similiar to this and been successful at conceiving? Where do I start from here?
Answer: If you have been trying for over a year with no results, you should always see a doctor. Both you and your husband should be checked out to make sure things are working properly. With only one testicle, your husband will most likely have a low sperm count, but remember, it only takes 1 live sperm to make a baby. If you are healthy and ok, but your husband has a low count, you could try having your husband's sperm placed up by your cervix during your ovulation. My husband and I tried for about 3 years too and it was because of my PCOS that we could not conceive. After 3 months on Metformin, I got pregnant. So though my situation is not identical to yours, I can relate in a small way and let you know that there is hope. If your husband doesn't have live sperm, there are many other options out there, such as a sperm donor. I wish you much luck, both of you should see a doctor and make sure everything is ok.
Also, start taking prenatal vitamins now. You can buy them at any drugstore or stores like Wal-Mart and Dollar General also carry them. It will help to prepare your body for a baby.
Question: Testosterone therapy? Has anyone gone through this, and if so what kind of effects (good and bad) did you have. I had testicular cancer last year, and need to go on testonsterone therapy, but want to know what people have to say about it.
Answer: Sorry for you that you had testicular cancer.Must have been a frightful thing.
I guess it fixes what you do not produce naturally any more..
Have no other explanation for it.
Best ask your Dr.
Best of luck:Sky.
Question: has anyone been through chemo therapy? My Brother is 23 and he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, THE EXACT SAME KIND THAT LANCE ARMSTRONG HAD. he went through chemo and it didn't do anything. It had spread to one lymph node before chemo and after the lymph node got bigger and spread 2 another. has anyone had the same thing and it end up working out. The next step is Surgery. 90% chance but no gurantees and what would be the next step? Thanks, The older brother.
Answer: There are a lot of different chemo drugs and now doctors in some cases can do testing prior to administering the chemo drugs to determine if the drugs will be beneficial in any particular type of cancer. I had a different type of cancer and opted for surgery first followed by chemo and radiation. Sometimes you have to keep fiddling with the meds to get them right.
Question: Chemo and memory loss/brain damage? Have any of you guys had BEP chemo for testicular cancer and experienced post-therapy brain damage or memory loss?
Answer: Not BEP, but I recently finished up the Stanford V treatment for Hodgkin's Lymphoma and am suffering from 'chemo fog' something fierce. I can't finish a sentence very without stuttering or forgetting the words I wanted, I can't make even the simplest decisions (trying to choose a jelly got me kicked out of the grocery store), and I forget things from one minute to the next with amazing regularity.
My doctor wants to get me checked out my a mental health care professional after the chemo effects have gone out of my body (I'm only about a month out of chemo) and see if there is anything wrong long term.
Good luck!
PS- I found that writing on things like Yahoo! Answers and working at www.freerice.org and other mentally stimulating things helps out a lot.
Question: Why do men object going to the doctor so much? Why is it that MOST MEN refuse to see a doctor unless they truly 100% believe something is absolutely wrong? My main concerns are prostate cancer and Testicular cancer. Men should be getting checked regularly JUST LIKE WOMEN. This is why women live longer, because we see it as an obligation to go to the doctor once a yr and get an annual... But men dont do that. They end up getting sick and knowing nothing about it till its too late! I seriously urge men to go to the doctor... For your families and friends if not for yourself!
Im working towards a radiation therapy degree and prostate cancer and testicular cancer death rates are extremely high because men refuse to see doctors till its too late.
Men: What is your main reason for not going?
And women... What are some ways you've successfully gotten your guy to get checked yearly?
Answer: I agree with you 100%! My husband, my brother, my father and my male friends are all the same. And the worse part is, they complain. "My head hurts, my arm hurts, I can pee, my back"!!
If I offer to take them to the doctor, there response: "No, I will wait and see how long this last". This is all the time and from every man I know.
And this is what I believe why, (I am not saying I am right, but here goes.), they are chicken s*&t. They are afraid of the pain or embarassment during the exam. They simply can't handle the whole thing.
Women can take pain better then men, so we go....we say, to he with it and we go. We would rather have the few minutes of discomfort, pain and/or embarrassment to stay healthy and yes, thats why we live longer.
But wow, I was so happy to read this question because it is so TRUE.
Question: What i your opinion on this?? Medical? 3 years ago... I was diagnosed with testicular cancer and went through chemo therapy and luckily I recovered from it... unknowing this past Sept. I found out that I had AIDS. What make me mad is that i had it for 10 years!!!!
I think that the doctors should have caught it when I had cancer with a simple test before starting chemo =(
what do you think??
Answer: yes ten years is a long time to not know about something so serious. I don't blame yo for being mad at all, i would be fuming. Luckily you recovered from cancer but this you won't recover from. Have you thought about talking to a lawyer or looking more into this, im not sure if you can, but i think you need some justice x
Question: told would never have kids....but did? has anyone here been told that they would never be able to have kids,,, then got pregnant. or was told that their husband couldnt have kids but still ended up pregnant by him?
my husband had testicular cancer when he was 17, hes 25 now. one of his testicles was removed. he did not have to go through any chemo or radiation therapy but every year he has to go to his cancer doctor and get a check up.....
well im starting to think we might have problems having a baby....we have been having sex without birthcontrol for about a year now...a year and 5 months. we do use the pull out method EVERYTIME, i just assumed it was working...but everyone says they got pregnant on the pullout method(which i was kinda hoping for lol)
but has anyone ever been told they couldnt concieve but did?
Answer: I was told that I could not have children and I just found out a day and a half ago that I am 5 weeks pregnant!
Question: low testosterone can contribute to Alzheimers? I've recently had testicular cancer and the result was an inguinal orchiectomy. Now I have a lonely twig and giggleberry(singular), my friends call me Ace. I think it is good to keep up your spirits. Well the testes are part of your endocrine system, as are your pituatary, adrenal, thyroid and a few other glands. Women have ovaries but they are still the endocrinal. These glands produce hormones. I am missing one of our main producers of testosterone.
Well, for my question; A normal testosterone range is 241-827 ng/dL (nanograms per decilitre), 300 is considered average in a male around 60-65 but low for a 30 year old male. Still as you can see, the range is 241-827.
I was recently tested after havig fatigue, moodiness and a little tougher focusing, it has also been harder to lose weight, my memory has been a little off. My level was 249 ng/dL this is LOW I am only 29.
I do not need testosterone shots or therapy, yet, but I do want to know if anyone has a natural testosterone remedy handy, as I do not like drugs? I used to be an addict. Now I feel a drug free, pure vegetarian life is the key to health, I was just looking for pointers, thanks.
Answer: Your t-levels are in the range of normal so at this stage I think there is no problem. However, problems may arise in the future and from what you have said you are already seeing some of the symptoms of low t-levels.
This link discusses the symptoms of low testosterone:
http://www.hormonesolutions.com.au/content/testosterone-for-men/diagnosing-testosterone-deficiency.php
The best way to improve your bodies ability to create its own testosterone is to eat a balanced diet (as a vegetarian you may have a few problems unless you bulk up on high protein alternatives to meat), stop smoking and stop drinking (really bad for t production), exercise (not too much as excessive exercise will reduce your t-levels) and make sure you have sufficient zinc in your diet (zinc is critical to the development of testosterone).
The following link will offer you a number of website that list foods high in zinc: http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=food+high+in+zinc+content&vc=&fr=yfp-t-501-s&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8&fp_ip=AU
You also mention that you wish to remain drug free and I respect that desire but testosterone is NOT a drug it is a human hormone and is not addictive or harmful unless abused.
The following link discusses the various testosterone treatments that are available: http://www.hormonesolutions.com.au/content/testosterone-for-men/testosterone-treatment-options.php
Your heading question relates to Alzheimer's disease and there is very strong evidence that low testosterone can have some very negative effects and Alzheimer's is one of them:
http://www.abc.net.au/rn/healthreport/stories/2007/2117931.htm
the other is low quality of life and shortened life span:
http://www.bestsyndication.com/?q=060607_testosterone_levels_in_older_men_life_span.htm
Question: Would the use of a vaporizer reduce or eliminate the risk of testicular cancer? A recent study has drawn a link between marijuana smoking and testicular cancer. excerpts from the study:

I also found this excerpt on the website of the group that did the study.
"The male reproductive system also naturally produces a cannabinoid-like chemical that is thought to have a protective effect against cancer. The authors speculate that marijuana use may disrupt this anti-tumor effect, which could be another explanation for the possible link between marijuana and increased risk of testicular cancer."
